I remember reading somewhere that the minimum wage at fast food places in Australia is around $15-20.

Anyone know anything about it?

I made $15/hr in my first job out of college. It was in Biotech and required a BS in Biological Sciences.

But then again the company covered 100% of the benefits, so that's pretty much apples to oranges.

actually, unemployment for unskilled and young workers in australia increased when the minimum wage was raised

and also, minimum wage in australia for a 16 year old is only $6.03/hr. and for the 18 year old fry cook it is $11.18/hr. they have similar differences for trainees and apprentices. and all of those minimum wages are only for people not covered by awards or agreements. their system is nothing like ours.

the entire nation is helped by the economic growth and growth of the middle class. now they have more government funding available for tech school to work on these machines. education would be better too in the long run. it would be better for the whole country.

I dunno...it seems like this is one of those situations where it's generally not advisable to take some hardline prick position. Nobody's gonna pay them $15/hour, and they're still gonna be working in fast food...so we should all probably just keep getting our cheap food and shut the fuck up about it.
