The one thing I hate about most of these videos is they typically pickup somewhere in the middle of an incident and we have no idea what may have lead up to that point. Clearly some of these are pretty obvious that the cops are being assholes, but I feel like some of them if you saw the entire thing from start to finish the police wouldn't look as bad as they do on just a partial video.

There were eye witnesses too, who said the kid was just jay walking.

Yeah it was just something that occurred to me when the video started and I just see someone holding the cops baton and doing whatever he can to not get up. Clearly this could have been handled much better and cops really need to get some better training on when to go the route of slamming someone down and when they can just diffuse a situation ya know with words and being calm. I also thought it was strange to hear that woman yelling over and over that he is just a kid when that kid is bigger than half of those officers.

Yes, well, since you haven't noticed, that's been a very big part of the outcry against cops mistreating black children-- they are often perceived as being older than their actual age versus their white cohorts. White children have more latitude in 'just being kids' than black children as a result of this habitual erroneous assumption, meaning they are forced to 'grow up faster' as a result, or risk being mistreated as if they were adults conducting the same behavior.

I think that is pretty obvious I was more stating about physical appearance rather than age. Yelling that someone is beating a kid makes me think of someone hitting like an 8 year old. When the person is larger than the adults it just seems strange to hear someone yelling they are just a kid. Had nothing to do with race simply a physical size thing.

I will admit yesterday I was downtown sitting outside the justice office waiting on my fiance to get our marriage license. There was a security guard who came out and walked around and kinda looked at me just sitting there. He looked at me then just kinda walked back inside. It definitely crossed my mind what would have gone differently if I had simply been black sitting there doing the same thing. Sucks that that thought even crosses your mind, but I suppose there is a reason for it after all the incidents recently.

Taller or not, a 16 year old boy does not have the muscle development of a 30+ year old man. Privately taught self-defense courses will teach any 5-foot-tall woman how to disable a much larger attacker. Being intimidated by someone's height reflects a lack of proper training and discipline on the part of unprofessional police officers.

So in all those 3 cases, there are two camps of people. One camps says if a cop asks you for your name or ID even if you have not committed any crime AND even the cop doesn't suspect a crime, GIVE them your ID. The other camps says, no DON'T give it to them. But then you can end up being assaulted for standing up for your rights, and would have to go through a lengthy and time-consuming process to clear your name, let alone win any kind of compensation. You can see that in the comments.

I would like to know where synapse, HUR, dtownral, JCE2011, Bullet, and the other regulars in the cop shoots an unarmed person thread shit-fests stand on this.

I personally think if the cop is courteous, just comply and show your ID. But then again, laws are meant to be followed, so the only real solution is to NOT hire power-tripping assholes, and to educate any that are already on the payroll, of which there are apparently a lot. I think there should be a minimum requirement of a bachelor's degree and a minimum IQ (110?) requirement to become a cop. And then they should be force-fed workshops and seminars on laws and then pass a test on said lectures. That should weed out most of the thugs, drop-outs, and general failures from becoming cops.

sorry. but that's idiotic. Sidewalks are for pedestrians. Parking on the street is totally legal and the correct move (especially if this is a neighborhood street). Sidewalks are also not made to handle the weight of cars.
