One of my best friends in college had a bored/stroked (7l?) C5 Corvette with a mostly open exhaust. Right around 600hp at the wheels if I remember correctly. The car was completely undrivable, very soft and severely under braked (stock brakes and suspension), but holy hell, it had SO much power, and sounded completely nuts. I swear you’d imagine you were at the paddock at a LeMans race circa ~2003 if you just closed your eyes... I still remember getting back in my (at the time) 944 turbo S (dynoed at ~350 ft-lbs at the wheels, no slouch) - and the first time I got on boost I thought something was wrong and had to look at the boost gauge and A/F ratios. My car felt totally gutless in comparison.
Anyway, that Corvette got so many looks and people wanting to race all the time. It can be good to not annoy people or gather too much attention... 2/21/2015 4:23:16 PM |

I have a month left of being slow, then it's time to run some 10's. Even if I have to pull the passenger seat to do it
Zmax is having a test and tune on the 14th, I was going to consider it but its only 5 hours, middle of the day, and they require helmets for every car. I don't need no stinking helmet to run a 12.00.... 3/3/2015 5:09:50 PM |

Anytime after the beginning of April. I'm about to take the G into the body shop for a free bumper respray thanks to my 70+ year old neighbor backing up 3+ car lengths out of her park, across the lot, and into the front of my damn car. She left some scuffs in the paint, and one ridge where she pushed the bumper against the support. Honestly can't tell it happened unless you are anal like me.
Now I have to worry about a shop buttfucking my paint, ruining my custom badges, breaking my custom fog lights etc. Old people don't need licenses if they can't even get out of a damn park in a tiny Honda civic.
Also had just spent HOURS working on my paint in preparation for Autofair. 3/17/2015 9:24:44 AM |

@sumfoo1 A G8 running the setup I'll be running in a few weeks just put down 630hp on the dyno with 12psi. Although I'm debating if I want to put on my pulley to get to 12 psi, not sure if I want to risk an engine to run a 10. 8 psi vs 12 psi, its only 4 psi, let her eat right?! I already paid for the pulley and belt, might as well use it.

Do you have the coin for a new long block just in case?
I mean... only 4 psi sure but on a motor built for n/a power cylinder temps will jump a lot in that 4 psi.
Ever thought of an E85 tune? 3/19/2015 7:27:07 AM |
BlackJesus Suspended 13089 Posts user info edit post |
Not interested in buying a short block this year, thats why I've had the pulley sitting here for a month and haven't taken it to get swapped. 8psi is proven to be safe (its what the magnuson kits put out and they come with a warranty) so I'm thinking I'll just leave it on that setting until I'm ready to forge it.
E85 on a boosted G8 requires a high dollar fuel system, so its not cost effective at all. I'd be half way to paying for a short block to safely run E85 and boost together. Squash double pump/vaporworx controller etc. 3/19/2015 8:06:12 AM |
sumfoo1 soup du hier 41043 Posts user info edit post |
fuel systems are pretty easy... just run a surge tank fed by the stock pump (they will flow plenty when they don't have to worry about high pressure) with a good high flow high pressure pump like the new holleys you'd be fine... 3/19/2015 8:37:14 AM |

Pictures of the new setup with -J pipes? 3/26/2015 12:25:18 PM |
BlackJesus Suspended 13089 Posts user info edit post |
My phone was dead when it was on the lift yesterday but heres the only picture I got of it after I got home. I'll have to jack it up to get a good picture what I've done since my car is so low.
The pipe on the right is my J pipe. The bottom band clamp allows me to swivel the pipe to the desired location for install, and theres another clamp on the top (can't see it) that I can loosen and lengthen/shorten the pipe for the desired length.

Any body got experience with paint exhaust tips. I painted them with grill paint (1200+ degrees) and its flaking off after a few months. Powder coating is out of the question since none of the shops would stand behind their work since it was an exhaust part. 3/26/2015 2:03:43 PM |

They are stainless tips. I sanded them to rough them up and then used grill paint on them. I had no problems until I started using the touchless washes during the winter. 3/26/2015 7:53:13 PM |

Hung out with some car friends, did some charity pace laps. (Me and the other G8 decided to layback before hand since the vette owner was like 70)
Full throttle at 2:30, 6:10, 10:00, 13:30 and some idle 18:50
Now to spend the rest of the holiday with family
Tons of compliments on the exhaust setup.

Does it make you mad that my truck traps nearly the same MPH at more than a half a second slower in the 1/8th? 4/7/2015 8:15:20 PM |
BlackJesus Suspended 13089 Posts user info edit post |
Not at all, I went about modding this car with street manners and reliability as my main goals. I could easily pick up over half a second if I did like a lot of guys and threw a huge 3600 stall in it. I'd rather be slow and be able to enjoy it day to day, than have to deal with a super loose stall.
The last time I was at the track there was a guy with a bolt on G8 GT (340ish rwhp) that was running 11.80s with a 3800 stall. I drove it around the lot at the track and it was the worst driving car I've ever been in. Revving to 3k just to take off.
The supercharger will fix the slow problem, not change street manners, but I think reliability is about to take a hit
