I thought it was weird that "Nina May" from earlier in the thread didn't pronounce her name normally: "NEE-nah"

Can't explain it but the name did get passed down to a cousin. She however got the normal "Nee-nah" pronunciation.

my criteria for naming a kid would be to give them a name that they won't have to spell for folks

Welp, my white trash cousin was married to a guy named Copper. His brother is Iron. They are both in jail. She proceeded to have 3 more kids with 3 other guys (we as taxpayers are paying for them).

I hate how people are now replacing vowels with y's and ending every name in -son or -den

That doesnt make you or you child any more sophisticated, assholes, you're trying too hard

this may have been posted in here already, but i'm super annoyed with the trend of names being some word or name spelled backward. like nevaeh (heaven), rehtaeh (heather), traeh (heart), etc.

Noticed lots of people are starting to name their kids after cities now. Not so bad if it was already a name like Charlotte or something but Lexington? Come on.

just heard about these girls in the phillipines named ABCD and EFG (some people in my friend's family). DiShonda is looking pretty normal now, all things considered.

Upper middle class white people are getting fucking retarded with the names they're giving their kids.

I looked at my daughter's class roster recently.

Savannah, Ava, Madison, Carson, McKenzie, Finley, Mallory, Callum, Anderson, Archer, and more that i can't think of right now.

I knew one Madison growing up and a Carson, but the rest of them are just parents trying too hard to be 'unique.' In general, I can tell by a kid's name how much of a douche/cunt the parents are.

There's one Nathan, a Katie, and then my kid's Amy. And we named our son Ryan.

Growing up (born '82) I had classmates with 6 of those names, they don't seem that weird to me (Madison, Carson, McKenzie, Mallory, Anderson, and Archer (Archer may have been a nickname))

I also think that none of those names are weird. I know two Callums, although one is Canadian

I grew up with a girl named Sthr. Pronounced star. Fucking weird.

yah, maybe less weird than pretentious.

and again, more so a reflection of the parents than the kids... at least for now.

There used to be one or two Ava-types in a class of Stephanies/Lauras/Jennifers, etc...

Now you're the unique one with a simple Amy. At least your daughter's class features proper spelling and actual names. She could be in with some Kaydens, Mckynzies, and Madysens.

And I long for the days of RaShonda and LaTonya...anybody who had a problem with those should feel pretty stupid right about now.

lol - I just googled "isabelle" (just right-clicked to search to open up new google tab so I could look up popular baby name lists) and first result is headline about how Ashton & Mila named their baby "Wyatt Isabelle"

^^^ , ^^^^^

Aside from Mia and Ava, the rest are classical/stereotypical (historically popular and NOT new at all)) White Western girls' names. I don't see the problem there....

^ pronounced kirsten?

also, i don't understand the hate (or distaste or whatever) for names that are actually names (historically, anyway) that are also spelled "normally"

for example, callum is an old gaelic name...you don't have to like it, but it's not like someone just put a bunch of letters together and called it a name...

...though i suppose anything can be a name, so it's kind of silly to think one string of letters is any different than another string of letters (assuming you didn't name your kid "toaster" or something)

what exactly is booming here? Ava has consistently been one of the top girls names (what i said) over the past half decade or longer, which is exactly what your list shows.
