very true. Cops turn to military tactics instead of just doing good investigative work nowadays. Instead of trying to figure out when a person can be arrested when they least expect it away from the house, they prefer to barge in with flashbangs and automatic weapons. These SWAT teams force a dangerous situation that puts them at a tactical disadvantage and then use that as justification for why they need more military style equipment.

"April 26th, 1992
There was a riot on streets
Tell me where were you?
You were sittin' home watchin' your TV
While I was participating in some anarchy
First spot we hit it was my liquor store
I finally got all that alcohol I can't afford
With red lights flashin', time to retire
And then we turned that liquor store into a structure fire
Next stop we hit, it was the music shop,
It only took one brick to make the window drop
Finally we got our own P.A.
Where do you think I got this guitar that you're hearing today?

Seems like cops are using tear gas, but protests still proceeding. Some rocks and a Molotov were thrown.

This is heartwarming

http://www.thewire.com/politics/2014/08/ferguson-police-arrested-reporters-from-the-washington-post-and-huffington-post/376050/

Quote :
"Two journalists covering the Michael Brown shooting case, Wesley Lowrey of The Washington Post and Ryan J. Reilly of The Huffington Post, reported that they were arrested and released by the Ferguson Police Department Wednesday night. Lowery and Reilly said they were detained after filming officers inside of a McDonald's and then not leaving fast enough when ordered out.

[...]

Reilly called in to MSNBC's All In with Chris Hayes and described the arrest. An officer started counting Reilly down, then grabbed his belongings, forced them into his bag, and arrested him. According to Reilly the officer used his finger to create a pressure point and slammed him against a wall. "The worst part was he slammed my head against the glass purposefully on the way out of McDonald's and then sarcastically apologized for it," he said.

Matt Pearce at the Los Angeles Times said he spoke to the Ferguson police chief. "I told them to release them," he told Pearce, referring to the riot command. The chief said the two were arrested "probably by somebody who didn't know better."

Lowery and Reilly are among the many national journalists who have been reporting from Ferguson in the wake of the shooting death of Michael Brown by a police officer, and the riots and protests that followed. In the last few days reporters have said they were barred from entering the city. Reporters who have made it in have been tear gassed and threatened by police officers, alongside the residents of Ferguson. What reporters haven't received is any answers."

Should be a federal crime for law enforcement to intimidate/harass journalists performing their duties.

^ was wondering. How is it not illegal for them to shoot journalists with rubber bullets reporting on a story?

How has the gov not stepped in? These cops seem Waaay Over the line here. This seems to set a very, very bad precedent for other police forces. There better be some mass firings once the cops come to their senses.

The NAACP lady brought up a good point, where are the elected leaders? Why are they not clarifying if a legal curfew is in place? Where is the governor?

If the police wanted to escalate this into a national issue, I think they have succeeded. I bet this story has traction tomorrow.

MSNBC is showing footage from #Ferguson livestreams because MSNBC & cable news "ordered out" by cops.

Somehow i don't think cops have the authority to make these orders.

That stream's now archived footage is much better and a completely clear picture of what happened tonight as opposed to the mainstream media (who had no view from the "front line", but only from afar as cops first moved in).

I can't imagine in any other neighborhood, cops could fire tear gas at peoples' houses and get away with it. They'd at least be paying to re-sod someone's lawn.

I'm a big public servant Homer and supporter of police but this is past fucking ridiculous.

How/why the Ferguson/St. Louis police have been left in charge to deal with this situation is mind-blowing. Where is the State of Missouri? Where is the Federal government? Why aren't leaders and politicians not screeching bloody murder at the top of their lungs at what is going on?

Why hasn't the name of this officer been released? It's been 4 days, they've had plenty of time to get his family into hiding and protected from retaliation.

Why in the hell are they arresting and assaulting journalists?? In a fucking McDonalds?

Every single one of these assholes needs to get shit-canned and held accountable.

Yeah...Nobody's advocating for violence. But I don't really blame people for turning violent. Police roll up into your town, armed to the teeth and being an occupying and militant force as opposed to a protective force...that just creates and us vs. them attitude. It's easy to see why people go to extremes in this situation.

Are you all comfortable with something like this happening in your city?

A lockdown. Attempts by police to keep information about their activities from spreading. Assaults against civilians and journalist. Everyone being painted with some blanket term like "rioter" to justify the suppression of the people. This IS what a police state looks like.

"GO HOME....WE ARE JUST PROTECTING YOU!"

'we are home. And you are shooting and arresting us....not protecting us'

[Edited on August 14, 2014 at 9:55 AM. Reason : rioter = militant in iraq]

you know how the NRA likes to say things about taking up arms to protect themselves against the government? you'd think a situation like this would be marketing gold for them. i mean, the police is armed to the teeth and occupying Ferguson like a militant force. this is pretty much what gun nuts fear and warn about right? they say they want to arm themselves against a militaristic government.

but it happens in a lower income, black area and of course the NRA is quiet. not surprising necessarily. it's pretty obvious how organizations like NRA play off public fear and emotion...but only when it fits their target demographic and audience. not that this is any kind of breaking news or earth shattering information...this is just another example of it

There are instances almost weekly of police using excessive force. Most of it doesn't even make regional news. In this instance I am sure this mike brown wasn't innocently on a neighborhood stroll when the mean racist police decided to pull him over. On the other hand the circumstances around the shooting seem suspicious and it does seem that the cop got out of hand and used
excessive force.

Either way there is no evidence that the MO police officer decided to shoot the kid because he didn't like black people. Once again with help from the media the african american community is trying to play the race card since it is suspected that the unknown cop is white and the victim was black.

The insistence by the black community that this was racially motivated combined with the violence/looting only hurts their cause (although in today's society I'm not entirely what the cause is).

Additionally the police response in MO isn't helping calm the situation...

Whoop, whoop! That's the sound of da police
Whoop, whoop! That's the sound of the Beast

Now here's a little truth
Open up your eye
While you're checking out the boom bap, check the exercise:
Take the word "overseer"
Like a sample
Repeat it very quickly in a crude voice sample
Overseer
Overseer
Overseer
Overseer-overcer-overcer-ovicer-officer!
Yeah, officer, from overseer
You need a little clarity? Check the similarity!
The overseer rode around the plantation
The officer is off patrolling all the nation
The overseer could stop you what you're doin'
The officer will pull you over just when he's pursuin'
The overseer had the right to get ill
And if you fought back, the overseer had the right to kill
The officer has the right to arrest
And if you fight back, they put a hole in your chest
Whoop! They both ride horses
After 400 years, I've GOT no choices
The police, them have a little gun
So when I'm on the streets, I walk around with a BIGGER one!
Whoop, whoop! I hear it all day
Just so they can run the light and be up on their way
