don't be silly. "Pit Bull" is a breed. They are different varieties but it is a breed. And, due to the stigma, ppl say "pit mix" so that they can move into an apartment complex or something.

This is an example of "Wikipedia gone Wrong" and how that website can actually being used to sway public opinion. Any actual dog person (like experienced trainers and/or vets) will tell you that there are three distinct types of the pit bull (the American, Stafford shire and then the Amstaff). They each look and act notably different from the others. Then there are the mixes, which are variations of any of those breeds with some other varying dog breed (I use to see a lot of lab/pit and chihuahua/pit mixes in the Pit communities).

But to say that all pits are mixed breeds is an entirely dubious proposition. On top of that it is a misnomer, because there is still a huge demand for the true pit breed (some of which even goes back to a specific blood line like the "chinaman") due to their inherent genetic traits, and people will not pay for anything else. That is a fact. People use the terminology of them being mixes to try and sway public opinion, or as I have stated previously, to get them on an apartment lease.

Any boxy-headed short-snout dog with a broad chest is colloquially called a pit bull, that's even how language is written in breed specific bans, and often pit-mix is used to describe mutts of unknown breeding that match these characteristics

Incorrect. Only other dogs can have natural tendencies. Pit bull personalities are 100% molded by their owner's actions and all pit bull attacks are due to bad owners.
