I mean, if my memory serves me correctly, I thought I read of upper classmen and alumni... Both inside and not a part of this frat... That say they have heard this song before. That should be enough to say this chant has not only been around for quite some time, but has been passed down in some manner.

I'm not saying this is a legacy type thing for SAEs or anything. It is also probably not something that a bunch of dumb freshmen made up/contributed to. Though perhaps a bunch of freshmen were the only ones dumb enough to be recorded.

SAE always had a southern-prep image and reputation. I'm not sure they drew from any particular major or school of study. IIRC the NC State chapter was suspended in the mid 00's and lost their house on greek court. I don't think they every really recovered from that in terms of membership numbers but they're still active i think.

It is easy to understand why this fraternity would hand down such a song.

Per wikipedia, it was founded in Alabama in 1856. Given that this is the only national frat that was founded in the south pre-civil war, in a time when many southerners were gearing up for secession, and listening to abolitionist's rhetoric about freedom, this seems like some kind of tradition they would pass down.

And I'm calling bullshit on any other southern chapter that claims they don't know this song.

A given fraternity chapter's culture varies from school to school and region to region. SAE at NC State is going to be vastly different from SAE at OU or SAE at a west coast school. At schools with a large greek population, you'll see more cultural similarities between different frats at the same school than you'll see between the same frats at different schools.

I just can't wrap my head around them not having at least 1 member in 200 years that liked black people enough to say this song needs to go. But this is a frat that sings about hanging niggers, but pays waka flocka to do a concert for them. Waka Flocka is like nigger level 100, it don't get more nigger than him.

I assume Theta Tau is a social frat and not an honors frat.

I'm a Theta Tau Alumni from State. We are a Professional Engineering Fraternity. Most chapters are coed now including State's as of a couple of years ago. When I was in school we were a part of IFC just like all of the social fraternities. We had a house at 4 Maiden Ln. The biggest difference between us and the social fraternities was we were all engineers. Today, our chapter is coed and doesn't have a house so they are more of a student organization than a traditional fraternity.

Not defending the language used but in case you haven't watched the video, they are performing a skit mocking the KKK. It's not an oath that has anything to do with Theta Tau. It's something they made up and decided to record for some dumb reason. Again not defending what they said at all just providing context.

They basically copied Chappelle
