Tucked away in a Politico article wherein Ted Cruz engages the ol' it's-your-fault-for-noticing defense and complains about the media's 'fixation' with his Cancun trip:

This whole internet culture though really does radicalize people under the guise of being a joke. Like I remember back when Uganda wasn't as extreme, but still was, and there was some interview where some white woman was asking about their rights and the Ugandan president was like "nah it is our culture, mind your business" or whatever and the comments were filled with "W", "sigma male", etc.
Now of course it is a quote-unquote joke, but people start really believing this crap without any actual serious justification and just laugh it off when you actually question why
