France v Portugal will be intriguing, France should edge it with their dominating midfield. No way Portugal can control the game like they did against Wales. Go a goal down, they're done. 7/7/2016 4:59:22 PM |

Man.... If Portugal somehow finds away to win after finishing third in group stage and avoiding all the traditional heavyweights in the knockout stage, I'm gonna be right vexed.

Yea I don't think Portugal make the final if Ramsey and Davies play for Wales. Ramsey was a huge miss for Wales thus essentially isolating Bale.
Griezmann is on fire though right now and France just look like they have the team chemistry. Should they win then 3 of their 4 major honors will have been won on French soil. The 4th on Dutch soil.
I look at the future and I wonder how England can ever compete with the likes of Italy, France, Germany, and Spain. Probably won't happen in my generation but the consistency of these 4 teams (Spain more so over the last decade) has been nothing short of phenomenal. Hell even Portugal manages to make semis fairly consistently. I think we are just cursed.

jeeezus. Portugal is going to win the tournament with only ONE win in 90 minutes. After finishing third in one of the weakest groups. And after advancing through an incredibly weak knock-out field. And after parking the bus all game.
And they're going to do it without Ronaldo.
Shit tournament. 7/10/2016 5:23:17 PM |

^^And after a BS hand ball call. France got lucky the free kick didn't go in, but the ball never made it past half field after the hand ball until they took the kickoff. Had the right call been made, France takes a free kick, goes the other direction, and the game probably ends in a shootout. 7/10/2016 10:22:10 PM |

^ Can't really say that till the World Cup cycle happens again. This was a different tournament. I don't see how outside of Chile and Argentina teams can stack up against Germany, France, and Spain.
France and Spain will likely have new managers by 2018 and both of those squads are supremely talented. France especially. Belgium will have a new manager and lots of talent at their disposal as well.
The Copa was a terrible comparison to the Euros. A lot of teams did not take that seriously at all. I can't see a CONMEBOL team winning the next world cup with Argentina in disarray at the moment. My bet is on France or Germany.

You're never going to convince me Iceland wales and Portugal are just THAT good. I said at the top. Chile and Argentina easily as good as the top euro teams but probably better. Keep in mind Argentina was pretty close to winning last world Cup and got a lot better. ConCacaaf teams held their own againainst euro last world Cup. Euro is still by far the deepest ando has the most chances to win but I think Argentina Chile and probably Columbia are the class of the world right now. I think they would all dismantle portugal especially if you took out Ronaldo.
Spain Tika taka ruined evolution of the game in europe. Now these teams in europe just sit around and wait for nothing to happen. Germany became the best in the world at keep away but now they are exposed. Score first on these clubs and they have nothing

Man Brazil's reputation has taken a nose-dive, even the E-man won't mention them to defend his position. They didn't take the copa seriously, and they've been crap the past 2 years in general, but they still have Neymar and a ton of talent.

^^ Fair points. Just semantics on what "the top" means I guess. (top 2/3 or top 5/6) Certainly Chile and Argentina are the equals if not better than their Euro peers. 7/13/2016 2:21:23 PM |

Month and a half late but some pics from the stadiums. Fanstastic atmosphere and the French did a tremendous job hosting the tournament. Hope you lot had fun watching the tournament.
Romania v Switzerland
Romania v Switzerland at the Parc de Prince in Paris.
Germany v Poland at the Stade de France in Paris
Croatia v Czech Republic at Stade Geoffroy-Guichard in St. Etienne (same one the Croatian fans rioted)
Belgium v Sweden at the Allianz Riviera in Nice. This was the best stadium situated in the beautiful suburbs of Nice.
Wales v Belgium Quarterfinal at Stade Pierre-Mauroy in Lille. Best match I went to for sure.

^ Thanks! Got really lucky with those. Never seen a match that up close before and it is insane at how fast the game is that close. It was a different kind of appreciation for sure. I would still prefer to be at a slightly higher angle but my god every touch and pass was incredible that close. Really made you appreciate how much hard work and talent goes into making it at the top level. 8/3/2016 12:43:32 PM |

Thanks. Yea its definitely a crazy experience being that close. Pics don't do justice to the atmosphere in the stadium and even outside the stadiums. Have some very fond memories of singing along with some amazing fans. Every bar/street/fanzone was packed with people. In some ways I think the Euros is going to lose some of its atmosphere by spreading it across the continent in the next version. With that and the next two world cups being in Russia and Qatar I am glad I got to experience a tournament in France. Had so much fun just visiting bars a few hours before the match and getting roadies all the way to the stadiums while singing along with fans.
Might still end up going to Russia and camp out in St. Petersburg/Moscow but I am iffy about that for now. Certainly not going to Qatar. 8/4/2016 8:57:17 AM |
