Even though the robot was racist, my guess is that it will get off with a slap on its bionic wrist.

I've said I think the Dallas police did a fantastic job. They were policing as active members of the community before the protests. During the protests, they weren't antagonistic, and looked to be there to protect their community's right to protest.

What I am questioning is the ethics and legality of using s domestic drone to kill a citizen.

12.5% of gun shot deaths of Whites and hispanics are perpetrated by cops

4.2% of gun shot deaths of african americans are perpetrated by cops

cops are 600% more likely to be shot by an african american person, than an african american person is to be shot by a cop.

African American cops shoot more African Americans and discharge their weapon against African American perpetrators than more often than White cops.

statistics in this matter can be woven both ways and are frankly dumb. Numbers shouldnt be a part of this conversation.

shitty cops doing shitty things, and good cops and good people paying the price is the problem.

Lets be real here, this isn't much different then a sniper on the next roof being told by the scene commander to take out the target, because he is a threat to hostages, police, whatever. It is still a bit unsettling to think that they used a robot to carry a bomb, so not saying I'm okay with it, but I understand the reasoning, and I believe it had the approval of the DPD Chief (who, if we are keeping track of race is black). If this is a parking garage and he's hiding in back where there is no clear line of site from any vantage point, then a sniper might be out of the question. He had already gunned down numerous officers and from the AP reports this morning, he was taunting the police during the negotiation. It sounds like he was waiting for them to rush in and then take as many down as he could before they got him.

lololol....I like how you added that in there as if that should also be included in any serious discussion about whether or not it is ethically or legally permissible to strap Johnny 5 with a claymore and take the dude out.

Officer: "Chief, we are requesting permission to use our brand new robot bomb"

Police Chief: "I don't think that's a good idea."

Officer: "But he called me a fatty and told Officer Espinoza that she had a lumpy butt!"

Police Chief: "sonofabitch."

And by the way, if he was potentially a "threat to hostages or whatever," then maybe sending a robot bomb into an area with potential hostages wouldn't be the wisest idea.

oh come the fuck on, don't be obtuse you argumentative twat-cicle.

The obvious point is it's reasonable to expect that the shooter was taunting police inorder to get them to rush into a trap, and kill more in a last hoorah in a situation he wasn't getting out of.

do we know that for certain? absolutely fucking not.

but I can see where the logic came from. and it wasn't "mommy he was mean to me."

he was probably a threat to the fucking cops that were going to have to go subdue him, as noted by the 12 he'd already shot

be fucking rational when you discuss shit

i'm not saying i disagree with the use of a bomb carrying drone in this particular case, it could set a very dangerous precedent.

what happens when they blow up a suspect who turns out to be innocent?

So the police are ruthless killing machines around children and traffic stops but anytime someone is actually a threat, they are completely helpless. All of these indtances of 1 or 2 shooters have completely outmatched police. Thinking of boston dallas and san bernadino makes me wonder what a chechen style cell of 1 or 2 dozen fighters could do in a major us city. They could probably take over the whole city.

i would like to point out that the rifle was an SKS which is not a "powerful weapon" like obama implied as defined by most assault weapons bans. does not have detachable magazine, pistol grip or whatever

sks from gis:

Quote :
"Beginning Friday, CNN, CBS and the LA Times all listed the gun used by the suspect as an SKS rifle. In each case, the outlets attributed the information to unnamed officials not authorized to make statements but familiar with the latest from the Dallas police investigation as their source.

Then the New York Times on Saturday named Clay Jenkins, Dallas County’s chief executive and director of homeland security and emergency management, as stating the gunman had used an SKS.

These reports – that a 1945-era rifle with a fixed 10-shot magazine that is legal virtually everywhere and specifically exempted from even very strict new federal assault weapon ban proposals by name had been used – sparked commentary from conservative and pro-gun blogs decrying the revelation did not fit a political agenda of banning so-called “black rifles.”

Subsequently, on Sunday, The Arms Guide published graphic and anonymous images purporting to show the aftermath of the explosion in Dallas in which the suspect was killed, complete with a photo of a Russian-made Izhmash Saiga IZ240 rifle with some aftermarket modifications.

The IZ240 is a semi-auto only variant of the AK-74 and both are banned by name under pending “assault weapon” legislation."

I would be surprised if this guy used an SKS. He was obviously well trained in firearms, was a firearm enthusiast, and knew much more capable weapons were readily available.

If these Dallas police had any honor, they would have attacked the shooter with bayonets fixed, in single file marching order. Any other method is uncivilized.

a bayonet charge or maybe just hold the perimeter and wait, send the bot in to monitor and try to re-establish negotiations

My thought is that if they could use a robot to deliver a bomb surely they could have used an alternative on that robot. I wonder what the bill is gonna be to repair any structural damage done to that parking garage or whatever.

The Dallas PD should have given the shooter a safe space, and let him work it out on his own.

"Dallas Police Chief David Brown clarified Monday where Johnson was killed with a bomb delivered by a remote-controlled robot, saying that it happened on the second floor of El Centro College, not a parking garage as authorities previously described."

"On Sunday, Brown discussed Johnson's negotiations with police on CNN's "State of the Union," saying he laughed at authorities, sang and at one point asked how many officers he had shot. Johnson insisted on speaking with a black negotiator and wrote "RB" and other markings in blood on the wall — the meanings of which were unclear and being looked at by investigators, Brown said."

for the people who have a problem with the bomb its not really about dallas but more just against militarization of police. the military should destroy surplus and outdated equipment, much of it goes to local police tho
