Still no power near Wendell ![](images/frown.gif)
Looks like Duke is giving everyone a long-range date of 10/16 for power restoration. I doubt it goes that long, but it sucks not having a more believable date. 10/10/2016 9:00:29 AM

I never lost power in Wendell other than maybe 20 seconds, but I also live in a brand new neighborhood so I assume all the infrastructure is buried. I heard almost all the rest of wendell was still out and knightdale had no power when I drove through yesterday evening. 10/10/2016 9:43:33 AM

Well that went better than expected. Got some pretty dire predictions on Friday that had me re-thinking our decision to stick it out...but woke up Friday morning to zero damage. Lost power for about twenty minutes, but then proceeded to drink and watch movies/football for the rest of the day. It was awesome.
House downtown had no damage either. Phew. 10/10/2016 10:05:06 AM

I got stuck for about 5 hours on Saturday in Hoke county. I was turning around at a tree that had fallen on some power lines in the road when one fell right behind me on the lines as well. It took about 4 hours for Lumbee River EMC just to confirm there was no power on the lines so that I could cut my way out. I got one tree clear and drove half a mile and there was another one I had to cut through, then had to turn around about 5 times just to make it home. I was out of power and water for about 30 hours, most of my turkey farms are still out of power. Estimate on power is Wednesday.

All power lines in my neighborhood are buried, but we lose power all the time. The strength of that set up is only as good as the lines feeding it. Thankfully, our power is usually restored fairly quickly. We were without power for about 9 hours Saturday (came back on around 830pm), however stores just outside the neighborhood on the main road still didn't have power yesterday at 5pm. 10/10/2016 11:36:04 AM

mentioned earlier that i had power now (without it for about 36 hours) but have heard from some friends nearby that it may be until the 16th before they have power...that would be near the 40/42 area in johnston county sort of.
My century link internet isn't working. They're customer service said it would be out for maybe 24 more hours. Not a big deal really.

Matthew may be worse than Floyd in the Wayne County area. The flooding there is a big issue. 10/10/2016 1:22:53 PM

Luckily my mom lives on the high side of Lake Waccamaw, but the low side is quickly becoming flooded and the water is still rising. Not looking good in the Southeastern corner. 10/10/2016 1:59:08 PM

My parents house narrowly avoided flooding luckily. They lost a big tree and some smaller ones but all in all were pretty lucky. I can't say the same for friends from high school who I have had to watch post on facebook about having to leave their homes and aren't sure if there is gonna be much left when they can finally get back. Still seeing people having to be rescued trying to drive through flood waters just can't understand why people do stupid stuff. 10/10/2016 2:10:40 PM

^my friend's 20 yo sister still live with parents, and apparently sister wanted to go see friends in Wilson, on Saturday ..... and the parents were like, yea I don't see an issue .... hour later, sister is being pulled from her car by firemen, car is swept away. And after all that the sister is upset about the car lol
oh yea and the museum of natural sciences was open until 2 or something on Saturday, which suprised me. My friend, who works there was pretty upset and calling museum higher ups about the dangers of being asked to stay out in those conditions, eventually someone finally called it. Anyway, my friend works on the 4th floor in butterfly room and told me, there were 250 people who leisurely found there way to the the floor to go check out some tropical butterflies

Yeah not sure why UNCP ever joked with that closing until Wednesday initial announcement, no kids will be going to school in Robeson County or at UNC-P this week and likely will miss some time next week.
No power, no water, river not believed to crest until Friday and then take up to a week to subside. Hell people are having an extremely hard time just getting into places like Lumberton and Pembroke because of the road closures. 10/11/2016 8:59:49 AM

huh?
are you mad I called people dumb? I mean, I get going to get some supplies or going somewhere deemed safer/drier but why are you trying to go out for fun? that seems bizarre to me. My friend's sister is straight up stupid, there was plenty of info on the internet about Wilson getting a hard hit and the widespread flooding they were experiencing, so yea if you chose to go to Wilson on Saturday, you might want to slow down your decision making process some. But the museum people just make me laugh. I know I am assuming a lot about each individual's circumstance, but we all knew Raleigh didn't get hit that bad, and yet we still had flooded roads, plenty of downed trees... why are you trying to get stuck out there? I dunno, I guess that makes me a jerk? 10/11/2016 2:47:22 PM

When they ask you to please stay off the roads that just means for everyone else but not you. You have important stuff to do and only other people end up stranded or in the way of emergency vehicles. They just mean those other people shouldn't be out in the storm but if it's just you then that's fine. 10/11/2016 2:51:17 PM

Sure people are dumb, but if you're chastising people for going to the museum you're basically chastising people for going to the NCSU game as well. And from my POV, as someone that did go to the game, I don't see anything wrong with having gone to the game. 10/11/2016 4:36:02 PM

i had several friends that went to the game. the ones that left at halftime said they barely made it home with roads being flooded. the ones that stayed all game couldn't get home and had to stay in raleigh over the weekend. so yeah, i don't think going to the game was particularly smart or safe.

I mean you can do whatever you want I suppose, but I'm calling that a dumb decision, sorry. It's a risk, one you were willing to take, but still more risk than going to any other game. Personally, I would not take that risk, and I think that it is irresponsible for employers to require employees show up, unless they provide them transportation to and from. I might even add that it is selfish for people to take such risks when our emergency personnel are already pretty busy with other disaster related events. I am glad though that you made it back fine and did not require rescue efforts. Good for you. I am curious where you draw the line though.

Kinston is forecast to beat the Floyd record:
![](http://water.weather.gov/resources/hydrographs/kinn7_hg.png)
At 27ft: Disasterous flooding. Comparable to the flood from Hurricane Floyd. All major roads on the south side of Kinston will flood. Up to two feet of water will likely be on Highway 70 in Kinston. Numerous businesses and homes will flood. Numerous creeks in Lenoir County including the Contentnea Creek will also cause widespread flooding. Numerous evacuations will be needed countywide. 10/12/2016 2:33:00 PM
