Their human results are going to blow MRNA's out of the water...those will be published in June. Good luck to anyone who held. 5/20/2020 9:30:41 AM |

MRNA option premiums are bonkers as everyone buys calls hoping they'll announce a vaccine.
Good opportunity for a buy-write if you want a double digit return in under 4 weeks. 5/20/2020 5:01:01 PM |
Geppetto All American 2157 Posts user info edit post |
Wouldn’t there still be sizable downside if the results are negative, reducing the stock price, and then absorbing that decrease less premium received? 5/21/2020 10:49:33 AM |

Aren't they down 20% this week for a reason tho?
New to this, but what advantage is there in buying calls over buying shares? Sounds like higher returns, so I assume also higher risk? 5/21/2020 10:54:47 AM |
Mr. Joshua Swimfanfan 43948 Posts user info edit post |
^^ That's the gamble in such a play, but expiration is June 19 so its a very big yield for such a tight window. If you were to start that type of position today your cost basis would be below the 90 day moving average.
^ Higher return. An owned call could double if the stock goes up a few points or it could go to zero. It's also a cheaper way to create short term exposure to on a stock than owning outright. 5/21/2020 11:25:04 AM |

Each call contract controls 100 shares. It lets you control $100K of stock for $1K in theory. If the value goes down, your loss is capped at $1K, as the person who owns the stock sold you their control for a specific time for the $1K fee. That said, if the stock goes up 10%, you'd have a $10K gain in the $1K option...the cost of the options fluctuates based on the value of the stock, how long the expiration date is away, as well as the volume of options/stock that are trading for that company. 5/21/2020 11:36:51 AM |

So quick reading on MRNA makes it sound like the vaccine results from the fast track wouldn’t be until research follows the candidates around for a year. I understand why some who think the stock will announce a vaccine next week are pumping the stock, but wouldn’t we see the stock drop accordingly once people recognize how far out we are from a vaccine? I’d think this makes for reasonable downside.
I know @Mr.Joshua said that is part of the gamble, but this is me more so trying to understand the pressures that would activate that downside. 5/21/2020 2:29:52 PM |

Is anyone familiar with a wash sale? I got stuck in one trading $VOO in March. I sold at a loss when everything was cratering, and didn't wait the requisite 30 days to buy again. So my cost basis is way higher than the actual price I initially paid for the ETF. I am not sure what my best options are. I figure I can either
1)Sell now, take the tax break from the loss and buy again when the market invariably corrects later this year. 2) Keep my position and only sell when the sell off begins, and hopefully then I would take less of a loss.
I am leaning with option 2. 5/21/2020 2:30:51 PM |

A wash sale is not illegal. It just disallows taking a tax loss of that was the plan. I think it's as if you never sold the shares. They retain their original cost basis instead of the cost basis you would normally have from the new shares. A lot of times it happens accidentally if you have dividend reinvestment established. 5/21/2020 7:09:29 PM |

INO is presenting the other half of their peer-reviewed glioblastoma data at the major annual oncology conference this weekend followed by a webinar Monday to discuss this plus the COVID-19 vaccine. The portion of their trial data covering the first group of patients released the other week shows a huge increase in survival as compared to the current treatment (~55-65% survival with the current standard treatment regime vs 85+% using their vaccine on top of the standard treatments).
Walter Hot Take: They will for apply (and receive) useage under Emergency Use Authorization.
Another Walter Hot Take is that their COVID vaccine will also be approved and the MRNA dog turd failure will be flushed down the toilet. This baby is going to $50 pps while MRNA is back to teens or single digits. Short MRNA and load up on INO.
Mark it down...take it to the bank...etc.

^Shorters (led by Andrew Left/Citron Research) have been coordinating and spamming those bogus lawsuit adverts for the past three months each time the price goes on a run. This guy is currently banned from the Hong Kong markets and has been sanctioned by the National Futures Association.
Citron launched 51 investigative reports against S&P 500 companies, between 2009 and 2015, as well as several Chinese companies, citing allegations of pyramid schemes, ineffective products and accounting, or business frauds. In 2016, Left was banned for five years by the Hong Kong Market Misconduct Tribunal for disclosing false or misleading information, and so inducing transactions under the Securities and Futures Ordinance. Despite being sued by multiple companies for the reports he has released, Left claims he has never lost a case in the United States; the National Futures Association sanctioned Left and stated that he “made false and misleading statements to cheat, defraud or deceive a customer in violation of NFA compliance rules.

INO is ending their Phase 1/2 MERS coronavirus vaccine study 6 months ahead of schedule (so they are the first to have completed a coronavirus Phase 2 trial). This is apparently being done so they can unblind the trial results and use that data to further bolster the case for emergency approval of their COVID-19 coronavirus vaccine. The earlier trials have already shown the MERS coronavirus vaccine to be highly effective.

I’ve bought nothing since March and am sitting here kicking myself.
Hindsight is 2020, of course, and if I were cost averaging as I should be, rather than looking for unlikely to find perfect entry points, then I would have capitalized on some of this.
Part of my hesitation is I need the cash on hand within the next 9 to 12 months for a renovation and the possibility of short term downside regardless of obvious long term gain didn’t fit my risk profile. But at the same time, I could really use the extra loot for that renovation, so the that’s what makes this V recovery sting a little more for me. 6/8/2020 10:30:06 AM |
synapse play so hard 60935 Posts user info edit post |
ouch. yeah last few months not a good time to have cash...but easy to say that now of course.
i had never traded before, but i took some money i had set aside for renovations and put it in the market mid-march, and increased my position over the next month. guess i had appetite for risk as I could always delay the renovations.

We thought about that but the renovation scale is pretty large and we’re adding a second child, so life wont’ be getting much easier. This being an election year, which tends to add uncertainty and thus volatile market positions, also kept me hesitant.
Ideally, I would have either purchased SPY or HTGC right around the 30% drop date. At this point in the game I’ve only recouped what I had in the market and cost averaged slightly in my Roth position (full contribution on 2/18) and whatever has added to my 401K.6/8/2020 4:44:28 PM |

MITT was some random REIT I bought at the height of the COVID doom and gloom when people thought everyone would default. I wanted to roll the dice on one thing. Shot in the dark. It went from 9.77 to 1.63 so I bought in at 2.94 and then yesterday it was back up to 7.57 but now its back down at 6.08. Do no recommend
IPHI is a high speed semiconductor I think will explode based on the direction society is headed long term. Just trying to be ahead of the curve.
BABA is next on my list after IPHI
Maybe a little late for airlines but they were ridiculously low back in March when I was grabbing them along wiith BA. I bet we will see a very slow climb and recovery from now on. Cruise lines too.

It's going to $25+ by month's end due to their imminent COVID-19 vaccine catalysts and the high percentage of short positions that will need to be covered. They are releasing animal challenge/study results plus their Phase I human results and those will be just as good as their MERS coronavirus vaccine data (which were extremely impressive). Because of their MERS studies, they already had a 6-month head start on all of the other coronavirus vaccine candidates in play. CEPI (international) and Operation Warp Speed (US) are going to be dumping blank checks at their doorstep. Look at MRNA's 6-month chart to see where their share price when after receving funding If it doesn't explode then I'll drink a gallon of Rem Lezar's piss.
