Really liking Pluribus so far. Like someone else said earlier, there are so many questions I would be asking. I am surprised she hasn’t asked them what their ultimate goal is. Smart idea for her to <<spoilers>> try to inject pirate lady with the truth serum too. I’m wondering if she can “outsmart” them by exploiting their rules. Especially if she links up with the guy in Paraguay.

I think today’s episode hinted at one of the goals at least… but I think the hive doesn’t even know the goal yet— it could just be like a virus that our immune systems eventually fight off, and the goal is to give sentient life throughout the galaxy the kick needed to get past the great filter.

^I think that is the obvious thing you are supposed to think. And, admittedly, there was a line earlier in the season that would potentially foreshadow it -- when Carol met up with the other immune people, the pirate lady said that they can't kill anything, but the one guy asked if HE killed an animal, could they prepare/cook it for him, and they said yes.

But logistically, it doesn't seem like it would make sense as it wouldn't be sustainable. Pirate lady said that there were ~800 million deaths worldwide. Assuming maybe 75% of that was recoverable, how long would that realistically last feeding the other ~5-6 billion people on the planet? And why would they do that when stuff like wealth inequality and food waste is no longer a problem? Yes, they can't slaughter livestock anymore, but with the combined intelligence of the entire human race, they'd certainly be able to grow "lab meat" and get other food sources (like milk) in record time. On top of that, don't they turn all the power off at night (except when Carol told them to turn it back on in Albuquerque)?

I'm glad they preclude her from the zoom calls, I probably would have voted to not include her either. At least Mr Diabate was nice enough to not shun her or tell her to fuck off. I thought carol played it off well when she could tell he didn't want her to stay close. I have a trial of apple plus now so watched last ep on there...they put a text preview of next episode, says(obviously) that Manousos starts heading north to meet carol, and carol gets creative with her rebellion. Manousos kinda annoying too, I'd be friendly as hell asking all kinds of questions and for items and shit....all while i was plotting. Can't stand him and Carol being so goddamn stubborn. Really like to see what the deal with that radio frequency thing. Probably something they could simply ask the collective about

Well color me incorrect. Although admittedly my assumption was that they wouldn't be able to live off of dead human meat for that long which made it unsustainable -- I was correct there. Was NOT expecting John Cena to show up, lol.

Honestly I'm with Carol and Manousos though. Carol watched her spouse die right in front of her eyes as a direct result of the hive mind infecting her body without permission. In addition to the 800 million people that died and were considered collateral damage. The only reason that they aren't forcing the survivors to join is because they have to have permission to physically injure them. I don't think her response is irrational. Especially now that we know that the human race as a whole can only live for about 10 years. (Sidenote, if they can't injure even one plant, how did pirate lady help Carol dig a grave for Helen? There were blades of grass there.)

Now look at the other survivors. Lakshmi is in denial thinking that it is still her son/husband. Diabate is a kid playing a video game with cheat codes. Haven't really gotten much info on the others she met, but at least one of them wants to join the collective. They don't like that Carol made the collective glitch out, but how was she supposed to know that having an entirely reasonable response (yelling emotionally) to a situation would cause that to happen. I think they are all too passive in what is happening.

Anyway, lets talk theories. In the first episode, the radio astronomer said that it would take antenna the size of Africa to transmit a signal that strong across 600 light years. I originally just thought "Oh the aliens just have super advanced technology." Now I am thinking that it actually was just a huge antenna array that took the combined efforts of the entire civilization. IE, they didn't create the signal, they discovered it coming from somewhere else in the galaxy and got infected themselves. So I'm thinking that the ultimate goal of the collective on earth is to build a gigantic antenna and perpetuate the signal, using as many resources as possible, at the expense of the human race. After 10 years, a skeleton crew that can be sustained by fruit/veggies that can be harvested naturally will stick around for the sole purpose of maintaining the antenna/signal.

Your theory seems pretty deep, i guess I never thought of the why like that. Almost like I don't question why things are the way they are in Severance. I guess it makes sense to be so nice to the survivors as they are the last line of defense. You got me wanting to rewatch episode 1 to re-remember what happened. In regards to antenna array, obviously somethings got to be up with the one homeboy put question marks on. I'd want to ask collective, but I probably wouldn't, because you might tip them off and they may cover it up, change it, etc

Well, another thought I had was that they wouldn't be able to build a gigantic antenna array without killing at least one plant. Even if they built it in the Sahara, for it to be as big as the signal they received, they would surely need to kill at least one organism. I guess it comes down to where they draw the line at life -- if you even disinfect a wound you are killing microorganisms.

Regarding Carol becoming an alcoholic -- in the first episode, she had that breathalyzer thing in her car that wouldn't let her crank the engine until she blew into it. Those are given to people who have gotten DUIs I think. So either her or Helen has a history with alcohol.
