Lol at that press conference now that I had a chance to hear all of it. It was nothing but a bunch of scary sounding legal terms and conclusory allegations. It's not "obstruction" when someone refuses to answer questions from a lawyer without a subpoena: that's just common sense. It's not obstruction on CNN's fault when a third party deletes information from their website; CNN was under no obligation to preserve someone else's data, much less to divulge it at will to the subjects of their reporting. About the only "facts" he had was that CNN relied on some information gleaned from data breaches, but even that isn't necessarily bad.

Basically, they'll get into discovery and a metric shit ton of info is going to be confirmed. And CNN isn't going to let them weasel out of it. They'll file a counter suit and then he's fucked. His political career is effectively over.

Gotcha. I'd say there's a couple differences here.
1) Trump isn't Black... let's be honest, it kinda matters
2) Trump's sycophants are more entrenched than anything Robinson has
3) Robinson doesn't have the spin game that Trump has
4) Trump took over the RNC, but Robinson has no control over the NC GOP (they've begrudgingly let him do his thing)
5) Melania knows Trump fools around and doesn't care. Robinson's wife probably does care.
6) Trump has had a microscope up his ass for 10+ years, Robinson hasn't. There's shit to actually find out about Robinson.
7) The most damaging things facing Trump are the criminal indictments, which he has successfully blocked for the time being.
8) Trump hasn't been dumb enough to file defamation suits over things we didn't already know the absolute truth about, and any additional info that would have come out wouldn't have been any worse than what was known.

Basically, Robinson isn't at the same level of unaccountability as Trump is. He's been riding Trump's coattails, and now Cheeto has more or less jettisoned him. He has to actually be somewhat respectable to have any chance in the GOP, such as that is, and especially so for a black man. Robinson's next move was probably a senate campaign, but he's not making any moves with this kinda thing confirmed. If he had just denied it, he could play the victim and roll with it, the same as what Trump does. But he's gonna be dumb enough to confirm it. To the extent that any of the things Trump has denied doing even matters, his sycophants would love him for doing those things anyway and would justify why it was actually a good thing (see: Ukraine and Jan 6th). Nobody's lining up to say that fetishizing peeing on your sister-in-law's butthole is a good thing.
