Woah woah there.
The Duke game was an EXCELLENT game for Javi. He's had plenty of "solid all-around games". And Duke is not the best team in the conference. UNC is the better team by far...Duke hasn't even been playing that well lately.

That has got to be one of the most stupid comments...he has been here for 2 years...the ONLY reason he is getting flack is because the MEDIA picked us to be 3rd in the ACC...if they would have said 8th, nobody would be that mad....its always good for a school to attract a great coach when they have gone threw 2 coaches in 3 years ....3/3/2008 11:46:14 AM |

Exactly who has "blown" us out at home??? I give you going 3-5 at home in the ACC is horrible, but to say Lowe desirves to be fired after 2 years is ridiculous...Everyone keeps saying that Lowe should have called a TO at the end of the Duke game....McCauley and Gonzalez should have FREE throws...
and last time I checked Virgina was last in the ACC...

HE IS GETTING FLACK BECAUSE HE FUCKING COACHED THE TEAM TO LAST PLACE IN THE ACC AND FOR BEING AN EMBARRASSMENT TO COLLEGE BASKETBALL.
AS A COLLEGE BASKETBALL COACH, YOU ARE HIRED TO WIN, AND WHEN YOU DONT, YOU TAKE THE RESPONSIBILITY AND THE FLACK. THE MEDIA MADE A PREDICTION, AND ANYONE WITH ANY COMMON SENSE KNOWS THAT PREDICTIONS DONT MEAN SHIT.

Can we just wait until Sidney has his own seniors? I mean shit we have one of the best forwards in J.J Hickson and have SERIOUS consideration from THE BEST point guard recruit in the country (John Wall) and THE BEST center in the nation ( Derrick Favors). Also we still have consideration from Lorenzo Brown and a verbal commit from C.J Leslie (John Walls current teammate).
Give Sidney a break, at least for now. Its not his fault some of our players decided to be lazy and not live up to their potential. cough cough COSTNER cough cough 3/3/2008 12:25:11 PM |

^^ I can agree that it has been a bad season, and I can agree that he hasnt done the best coaching job this year, but if you look back my original argument is that he shouldnt be FIRED and the fact that some of our "fans" are saying he should be fired after 2 seasons is stupid...

Yes but it is Sid's fault for not motivating the lazy players or not sitting them. Instead he waits till the season is almost over to start players who are hustling.
Sid has yet to show that he can motivate 18-21 year olds to play 40 minutes of basketball. This is the most underachieving team in the ACC by far. 100% of that is coaching. And all Sid does is blame the players.
You can bring in all the 5* talent you want but if you can't coach (Doh'erty) you can't win. Atleast UNC had the sense to fire him after 2 seasons.

Because we had good guard play
(and of course I'm using 'good' in a relative sense. Atsur was experienced and knew what Lowe wanted... he wasn't exactly a stat-stuffer, but he ran the offense well and played good defense)

That's BS.
Although we did play better with Atsur last year...we didn't turn it on until the ACC tournament. We got spanked at Chapel Hill, at Tallahasee, at Atlanta, at Miami, and Maryland at home WITH Atsur in the 2nd half of the ACC.
People act like we were a top-15 team with Atsur last year...which is wrong. We just got some solid play from the team and an UNBELIEVABLE performance from Brandon Costner and we made a good run in the tourney. Its looking now like we just had a good hot streak at the end of the year. 3/3/2008 3:01:12 PM |

The home loss to the Blue Devils Saturday was capped by coach Sidney Lowe's curious decision not to foul while trailing by a point in the final minute; he let Duke run the shot clock to nothing and the game clock to about five seconds. Even with the rebound, State had no chance to get off a decent shot and blew an 13-point second-half lead." |

This might have been discussed already but when Duke called a TO with about 18s on the game clock what did Sid tell the team? Play good D and then when we get the rebound throw up a half court shot?
There was an article in the N&O about the refs not seeing Sid try and call a TO. Did he even tell the team to consider calling a TO if they got the rebound? Did he talk to the team at all during that TO?
I'm having trouble understanding Sid's thought process. You don't foul and let Duke run the clock down to 5s and then don't instruct your team to call a TO when they get the rebound.
Sid should sit out the Wake game for that screw up. 3/4/2008 11:59:12 PM |

The timeout really doesn't matter because we should have fouled them with 40 seconds left anyways and never put ourselves in that position. 3/5/2008 10:46:19 AM |

I'm not complaining about shit. We looked great the entire game and amazing compared to the rest of the season. You bitches can whine about the last few minutes if you want. I'm just glad we didn't get pounded by 40.
That's not to say I don't agree with some things that happened. But I'm not going to waste time harping about it. Hopefully the good play continues until we're done playing, whenever that may be. 3/5/2008 10:51:12 AM |

^^ thats a matter of opinion. Against Duke, fouling isn't always the answer. I think it said a lot that he had faith in the team to get the stop. They just screwed up on getting the timeout.

No, it's not a matter of opinion. When given the option of extending the game or settling for a miracle play/shot with the clock expiring, you always extend the game. So what if he had gotten the time out. At best, there would have been 2 seconds left for a play from half court. Either way, you're asking for a prayer.
With that said, I agree with ^^, I just hope it wasn't a fluke and we're actually capable of playing like this consistently (I don't think we are).

I honestly couldn't believe we didn't foul. We didn't even aggressively try to go for a steal. We sat back and let them come at us!
And then Sidney had the balls to try and explain to us the NBA rule when we all know that it would have made sense to just play defense in the NBA with the timeout advancing the ball past halfcourt.

Something to the effect of he'd rather have ball on his side to diagram a play and in the NBA you have a choice to take it past half court out of a timeout. 3/5/2008 1:32:25 PM |
