ahh yes, Cheyenne...I don't remember their website being "lovetheschultzes" yet I don't think they always worked together. They must've finally decided to combine forces since they already did so much work together.

I liked the Schultzes but when I asked about pricing she kinda blew me off because we were so far in advance... :\

April at Evoke was amazing though, hence why we went with her

egyeyes is a big fan of their work. Matt and I went to highschool together and went to church with my fiance.

Yeah, they're married. And they're both amazing photographers so it made sense to build a business together.

We booked The Schultzes as our first wedding vendor because I love their work so much. Then we found out two months later that they're expecting a baby in September (our wedding is September 18), so they had to clear their calendar for the whole month Still love them though.

But it all worked out because we've got Kristin Vining now, who is nothing short of amazing!

Yep, she's in Charlotte.

And check out her blog too. Her style is a little more "cutting-edge" than The Schultzes, which may or may not be your thing, but I love her creativity. She's constantly getting published.

She did that to me as well which kind of peeved me off. That's fine if you don't want to give me a quote but it was the way she went about it that annoyed me.

But talking to other brides on theknot it sounds like she would have been WAY out of my price range anyway and I love the photographer we signed to bits so it all worked out

anyone have suggestions for modern songs you can tango (argentine), rumba, or swing (east or west coast, we can do both) to? we already have our first dance, and i have a list of the rest at home, but it's pretty short

the only one i remember off the top of my head is queen latifah's cover of california dreamin' (should be able to tango or rumba to it): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L0462ycSKm0

sorry, rant...

business is business, but I personally wouldn't look twice at caterer/photographer/venue if they weren't up front with pricing and extra fees.

I think a lot of times these businesses that I'm contacting are a little shocked by my upfront demand for pricing. Just the other day after visiting a reception site I told them I was not as interested as they'd like, mainly due to their restraining rental party (must get all linens/plates from specific rental company even though they're included with caterer's fees). Sure, it's only ~$6/person, but that's like $1k I'd be saving if I didn't have to go through that rental company. When I told the head person that I wasn't as interested they basically told me that there's a risk in having a tacky wedding if I continue looking for cheaper alternatives and they know because they've been in the business for decades (insinuating that they know exactly what kind of people we are and what we want for our wedding).

Just don't let people push you around. Especially photographers. There are a lot of great ones out there for ALL price ranges!

^^^I have a two friends who are Hispanic and did a lot of choreographed dancing at their wedding like the tango and the salsa...BUT it was all in spanish. :/ I wish I could help you!

^^Who is your baker? PM if you want

^You tell em! Our reception site has something about our baker "should be" inspected by the Department of Agriculture...my classroom has been inspected and all the guy did was look for opened food containers and made sure we had hot water and no animals present. I actually make cakes and have taken the Wilton classes and had planned to make J's groomsmen cake and possibly my cupcakes but now I am thinking this is out. :o/

^Which is? Cupcakes with designs?

Anyone doing custom postage for their invites or response cards?!?! ZAZZLE has an amazing sale right now....you can design your own SMALL postage for just $9.15 for a sheet of 20. Regular old postage stamps cost $8.80 for 20 so for 35 cents more, you can have awesome personalized stamps.

The codes are :
10% off (not sure if it works with the other code) - 10zazzlesave
Free shipping under $10 - shipthanks10
and 8.80 off each sheet of postage - JULYPOSTDEAL

I made some stamps of my hunnie and me in the small size and shipped for $9.15.

I THINK the last expires at midnight.

^ I love them. Obviously I've never planned a wedding, but I wrote a story about tablescapes a year or two ago and interviewed them for that and had them do a full table layout for us for a photo shoot. I gave them full creative license and they came up with some pretty cute things like incorporating mini pineapples (I didn't even know you could buy mini pineapples) and using apples with dried leaves inserted in them to hold the place cards. The spread they put together looked incredible.

Matt is freaking incredible. Nothing surpasses his work in quality and creativity.. his vision can take anything and make it many times more beautiful. I'm a blog stalker and there have been numerous times where the highlights videos he's put together have brought me to happy tears. Everything seems so beautifully constructed and taken into consideration.. he is a true artist.

^2 Do any of your friends have their own video camera?

My cousin went around her friend's wedding and did a quick Q&A session with almost every guest (mainly how do you know the couple, do you want to say anything) and she's giving her friend the raw video so they can edit themselves... could that be an option?

great photographer...he could stand to be a bit more personable (in my opinion)...his prices are ridiculous, though, it was only him shooting an event with 300 guests (again, my opinion...maybe you can pay extra for a second photographer)

What are your opinions about the bride and groom getting together before the wedding to do pics?

Since we followed quagmire's advice and went with 2+3 photography, we have them the entire day of the wedding and it will be getting dark on the beach around 7...so we had discussed going out and doing a "first look"....my fiance said NO and I agree (he will be super sweaty lol and I want it to be a special moment when he sees me walking down the aisle...) but a lot of couples are doing that nowadays.

Those wolfpack garters would be so easy to make! CUTE!

cody and i are going to get pictures done a solid month before the wedding.
i do not want bridal portraits, i want a portrait of both of us, i feel awkward hanging a huge picture of myself in the house

this way the portrait that you see at the reception will be of both of us (i mean its both of our days amirite? )

we talked about it and we both have the same sentiments-we don't believe in the "bad luck" that comes with seeing the bride in the dress before the big day and we both want the wedding to reflect the way the feel for each other, which really has nothing to do with him being surprised by my dress or how pretty i look etc etc.

however this is just us, everyone is different....your boo wants to be surprised, which is awesome , so i say-surprise him with your pretty self!!!

now that i think about - it i'm actually a really bad person to give my opinion b/c i genuinely do not care what other couples do as long as they like it and it makes them happy. there are very few things i consider "tacky" when it comes to somethingas personal as a wedding (there are a few things though ahaha)

I wish we had done a "first look" bc i wore my hair half up/half down and by the end of the ceremony my hair was nearly flat. It's not that they were bad, but I see photos of me beforehand and my hair was better

We won't be doing this. One of the coolest things as a guest at a wedding is seeing the groom's face when his bride enters the room. It sucks going to a wedding where you don't get to see that face and I don't have people flying from the other side of the world to just see a face lol.

We did a first look for ours as well, and I HIGHLY recommend doing pictures before the ceremony. It's more relaxed, you have the time to make sure you get all the pictures you want, and you don't keep your guests waiting before they can start in on the reception food. I don't think there's any less emotion walking down the aisle by doing the pictures beforehand. My husband still looked amazed and the only people who knew that wasn't the first time he'd seen me were those in the bridal party.

More: Looking back on it, I know that the emotion of walking down the aisle is more than just seeing the other person for the first time that day. It's a culmination of so many things, and "it's actually happening for real." It's seeing your families being so happy and knowing you're doing the right thing, and knowing the other person loves you by the look on their face. None of that is dampened by seeing each other beforehand; I don't believe in luck anyways.

I'm not engaged yet but I wanted to join in on the conversation about seeing each other before the ceremony. I'm Coptic Orthodox and it's tradition for the bride and groom to walk into the church arm in arm together. I figure since this is the case, I'd probably want to have the groom go to a pretty location. The photographer can make sure the groom has his back to wherever the bride is coming from. Then the photographer could get a really cute sequence of photos of the bride tapping the groom on his shoulder and then getting the reaction that way instead. It's a bit more intimate than from across the room and an added benefit is having pictures taken before makeup melts off and hair goes flat.

I've seen cute pictures of what I described above but goshdarnit if I can find one right now!
