The thing that gets me is how this has become such a huge race issue and I havent seen where there is any proof he went after the kid just because he was black. Also had this kid been white and all other things being equal would anyone have even cared other than his family?

How is that a dumb statement? Lets say the kid was white and the cop was black and people were behaving the same way? Would it all be justified then? I just dislike when these situations devolve into entirely about race. I think the Trayvon case had much more to do about race than this particular situation.

Ferguson arrested and charged a black police officer for something less serious than for what they failed to indite a white police officer

i'm still not sure how that's attacking a black officer to show there is no racial bias, it seems the opposite to me

That's been brought up at least 2x so far. It took massive public outcry for Wilson to face a grand jury where as the other kid got one be default. And both cases demonstrate the huge flaw in the system, where cops always get off. They face no real accountability (unless it's a black cop it seems-- they get thrown under the bus).

It's not really racist like "spick" and "kike" but it's become a term that's used in replacement of "nigger" by actual racists. So it just depends on context if "thug" is racist, but it's started to be used in a racist way enough recently that it raises eyebrows depending on the person and context of how the person used it.
