I wonder how Gottfried manages the minutes of Barber and Lewis. Lewis looked real good out there on offense against Miami(OH). 6 assists in 15 minutes. Can Barber also play off the ball?

I love me some Tyler, but I would hope Cat can beat him out. Still not buying Lewis as a starter on a premier college team. (yes I know about Oak Hill) He can CERTAINLY contribute, though.

Fuck that. I want Tyler on the court as much as possible. That guy gets the ball to the right people, in the right places, at the right time.

I'm not saying he needs to be playing 40 minutes a game...but unless he has a junior Lo Brown in front of him...he's not a back-up point guard. We can run a three guard lineup. And we can also split 120 minutes between Cat, Lewis, and Purvis.

I've seen video of Cat...and he's really good...but it's not like he's a Kyrie Irving that should get the nod from day one. He has deficiencies and he's hardly dominating. He's going to have to be bad-ass to put Lewis on the bench.

You failed to mention defense in that hyper-reactive post. That's my main concern with Tyler. But, we'll see. Once again, I'm a big fan of the kid.

I'd like to think that Tyler is a team-player, and he'd be ok playing 15mpg as a sophomore. With that said, I'd bet TL starts over Cat, at least for the first several games, maybe more (if brown doesn't jump, of course)

Sometimes you gotta sacrifice. Kendall Marshall was a shittay defender, but he had Henson and Zeller to back him up when he got beat. As long as we have long and athletic defenders surrounding Lewis, then we'll be okay. Getting Anya is a big deal...that guy is an eraser. Washington is long, Purvis is a big, athletic guard. Warren has good size.

If Lewis can take care of the ball, get 7/8 assists a game, and keep our offensive machine running...then I think he'll be out there for at least 25+ minutes next year. I'm really excited about Cat...but I still don't think he's a dominate point guard...yet. He's got some work to do.

We haven't seen Lewis challenged defensively, yet. If against major teams he comes in and gives up 8-10 points, then he becomes a real liability.

He seems to be ahead offensively, but that can easily be negated by what he does on the other end of the court. Keep in mind that getting beat on defense is far more costly than making an assist on offense (Assists to post players help team FG% a little. Assists to 3 point shots don't help at all).

I'd rather have purvis defend the 1 and have everyone slide over if defense at the 1 becomes a problem.

All good points. If we can surround him with great defensive players, we can possibly make it work if he's lacking.

Marshall didn't start hitting those wide open threes until the 2nd half of last year.

He went a full 1.5 years being a scoring and defensive liability. But he was so good at distributing the ball that it wasn't even a question for him to be on the court.

Lewis can knock down wide open threes.

There is really no evidence than Lewis can hit 3s. That's a premature conclusion.

Getting to the FT line, limiting turnovers, 3 point shooting, offensive rebounding, and 2 point efficiency are the important offensive stats. If Lewis is good at any combination of those, that makes up for defensive deficiencies. Assists are second tier offensive stat, at best.

Before this turns into a shit show of an argument...

Are we still considered a virtual lock for Anya? It's been too quiet.

No shit...we did this with Archie and Atsur whenever we went against above average point guards.

There's no question that Lewis will get the lesser defensive assignment if its available.

Pretty much. It will definitely be a "wtf" moment if he decides to go elsewhere.

^^good, we need some outside shooters (I'm assuming this kid is a good 3-point shooter because he's a white SG).

Julius Randle is gonna be at the PNC for the UNC game on January 26th.

From ESPN's Scouting Report: Strengths: The first thing you notice is his confidence behind the 3-point line. He's a natural perimeter player who is a high percentage 3-point shooter. See's the floor very well and can transition from scorer to passer easily. He's got an innate feel for the game and is in constant motion ...

Packpride says both Washington and Barber are supposed to be faxing in their LOIs today. It'll be great to have them wrapped up.

Anya will announce and sign Friday; hopefully with us.

I really really like Washington's game. Perfect compliment to a banger like Anya. Love the way our frontcourt is shaping up for the future. Perfect trio if Randle commits...but already well above average with those two. Fuck...we are getting some ridiculous talent in this program.

Monster basketball boner right now.

I think what's more important, is that we're landing talented players, but I also have faith in our staff to TEACH these players and IMPROVE their game. Lowe landed talent, but I never had any faith he'd be able to maximize their potential.

^^Yeah he's got a great inside-out game. He'll fit in nicely into the high post offense. Plus he's got good back-to-the-basket moves as well, and is a lefty (which always looks cooler, I think). That baby hook is just silky.
