I'm going to a black tie wedding at the end of June. I don't really want to wear a full ball gown dress because it's in the middle of Summer. Is this dress appropriate or do I need something dressier? I don't really know the rules of black tie weddings in the Summer. :-/

I think it's really pretty!! But wait for diva or LK to see it...they seem to know more about that kind of stuff than me.

Thanks, I'd probably wear something over the shoulders as well. Dress it up with some jewelry maybe? 6/3/2013 5:38:48 PM |
Meg All American 6759 Posts user info edit post |
Yeah. I tend to be simple with jewelry...like wear just a necklace or just earrings, etc. but I think you can do more if you have the right jewelry and it isn't over the top. What kind of shoes are you thinking about?
I should clarify that I'm here in this thread to learn. I can give my opinion but I usually text a picture to Erica anytime I buy something I'm going to be seen in at an important event. Which is rare. So. Yeah. Lol

Ladies - wtf is up with a bachelorette party being such a freaken event! A whole weekend away costing everyone hundreds of dollars? What happened to just going out for dinner and to a bar/club to celebrate? 6/4/2013 11:27:50 AM |

Meg, mine was a beach weekend but my MoH paid for the house rentals, but even if she didn't we only would have paid about 20 bucks a person plus food and drinks. Our friends family owned the houses. The weekend was way cheaper than the original plan of party bus and bars downtown. I read somewhere that the average cost of being a bridesmaid is around 1500 dollars now. That fucking sucks. 6/4/2013 11:46:15 AM |

Our wedding cost about 7500 dollars including the rehearsal dinner. Open bar and everything. Our marriage is just as legal as the average Raleigh couples wedding which cost about 30k. 6/4/2013 12:41:37 PM |

I'm a fan of skipping the wedding and using the money on a house. Did just that and this house will be amazing when we are finished. You can't really get a renovation loan on a short sale, so this is the only way we could have afforded to buy and fix it. 6/4/2013 1:20:59 PM |

I have a feeling I won't ever get married, which is probably good, because I like a lot of expensive stuff.
Also, bmel I'm not a fan of that dress...at all. But you can totes wear a cocktail dress to black tie...just make sure it's really dressy/fancy! 6/4/2013 2:09:21 PM |

I think it just depends on who is hosting, age of attendees, where the actual wedding is and what kind of person the bride is/what she wants. I see the benefits of both scenarios.

well when the person hosting is poor and expected to spend $400+ for herself (which she can't afford) and $400+ (which she definitely can't afford) for the bride over the course of the weekend..... W T F
i mean, i have friends who took all their friends to vegas for a weekend (bride's and groom's) and had a huge party with expensive liquor, strip clubs, shows, fancy dinners, etc. but they could afford that so more power to them.
