I think the new season is actually much better than most of last season so far. I expected this weeks episode to go back to being really cheesy freak of the week ep, esp when i found out it was about a beauty pageant. Considering this ep was clearly ordered by the networks to promote their modelling shows they did some good stuff with the characters despite the restriction. I mean the whole Lex thinking Kara is an Angel thing is brilliant, as it brings in the other incarnation of supergirl, and the triangle with Jimmy and her is classic. Its the clever way that they work in disparate elements of the Superman mythos that make this show good.

That said, I miss Ma Kent and I don't really see how they go past this season if Rosenbaum leaves.

Wraith, to answer your question, I think the creators have already said this is a different continuity (a reimagining, if you will) of the Superman story. Thusly, all the characters and major details (Lex is bad, Clark is good, etc.) are in tact, but all the stuff in between is fair game.

My biggest problem with the show is "what the fuck is Clark waiting for?" Hes not in school...Im not sure hes even working (didnt he say some other farmer was running the farm?)...hes just pining around Smallville waiting for God knows what. I got all excited when he said he was going to the Fortress to start his training, but then all we get is "Watch after your cousin". Each episode it just gets more and more unbelievable, because I just cant imagine a legit reason for Clark to still be hanging around the farm with nothing to do rather than getting out there and doing what Superman does...maybe thats just part of the reimagining though...no wonder people were skeptical when they decided to reimagine BSG.

All I can say is that there must be a lot of politics behind the scenes. This show has done a lot of really great stuff for the Superman saga, but right now it feels like it's a struggling victim hogtied on railroad tracks with the train on its way. It has become such a beauty pageant - as someone put it - with story lines strong-armed into keeping the same people and relationship turmoil present. The buildups to the season finales have been pretty good, but the season premieres always suck because the writers/producers/string pullers just force the show back to a business-as-usual state so they can ride the same drama coaster again and again. It's really not much better than a soap opera. "As the World Turns (Near a Yellow Sun)"

Show needs more actual DC plotlines.

It bugs me how they make things so out of whack with the barebones Superman story. There's no way anyone will be alright seeing Lois and Clark together, and Clark's almost 25 or something, and has shown very little interest (besides writing for the Torch or whatever) in journalism - not to mention, I don't think he has a degree or anything.

And isn't this going to be the last season since Michael Rosenbaum isn't coming back?

Fuck this show.
