I've busted out of 3 Tourneys today with AK.

All 3 to 55.

All 3 nothing higher than 8 came on the board. The 5's hit a set twice and and a straight once.

Painful

Other day in wtpt @ Babineaus in cary.. I made it to final two and this was the last hand of the tourny

Me(~$120k): 2c7d
Hot girl(~$75k): As8h

SB: 10k
BB: 20k

I'm in small blind/button so I take a shot at her chips and raise to 50k thinkin she'd either fold or go all in and she had been playin extremely tight heads up, folding lots, so i'd fold if she raised.. She only called so there was 100k in the pot.

Flop: 7h Qs 8s

I got a piece so i bet 20k and she goes all in for 25k, easy call of 5k

Turn: 7s

Shit no!! don't do it to me.. NO FLUSH, NO FLUSH

River: 7c

OFF MY SHIT! won a tourny with quad 7's

yeah, i felt special

im in a non online game (we're down to 4 handed) blinds are .25/.50 NLH

I have about $38 in the BB
UTG has about $50
2nd position has about $65
SB has about $30

UTG who had played semi-tight that night makes it $2 to go with Ac Kc
2nd folds
SB folds
I see Qc Jc
I call and see a flop:

2c 8d 10c

i check (knowing that i am going to call any reasonable bet)
he bets $2, me thinking that was suspiscious and wanting to take it there, i raise it $5 to $7
he calls

pot is $18.25

next card 7h

so the board is 2c 8d 10c 7h

I bet out $19 (the pot)

he thinks for a while and just calls, i was like wtf

the river was an insignificant 5h, and knowing im fucked and he'd have to call my remaining 10 had he just a pocket pair i check and he checks

he turns over his AK embarrassed and im like its good

now reflecting on that hand, wtf happened

the call of 19, i can merit a raise and a fold, but a call? what do yall think

i usually never overplay my big draws, but i thought I made a play where he wouldnt be able to call with AK, b/c his actions were screaming weak the whole time.

I mean i guess i misplayed this but damn

Man Greg. I miss ya.

Anyways, with the AK vs QJ hand, two things.

First, what do you think the guy has. If he was playing tight like you said, then his calls are screaming overpair to me (I realize he was on a draw, but 90% of the time, after a raise preflop and low cards coming on the board, the guy is playing JJ or something). This is of course assuming the player is playing tight and not making stupid calls. Bad players will call you down on this type of bet with A6 off-suit waiting for their A. Regardless of what he is playing, at this point you know you are beat. I know you said he was playing tight, but don't confuse this with playing smart. That guy was drawing for the nuts, and when people are drawing for the nuts, they often throw pot odds out the window.

Secondly, your bet on the turn is just too big. It almost commits you to an all-in regardless of the outcome on the river. It was only too big because of your stack size. Normally, a pot-sized bet is perfect in this scenario, but you have to bet in relation to your stack. Perhaps throw out $8. Your bet will still pay off in the end, and it still sets up a bluff if you want to do so on the river.

Just to clarify:

SECOND WORST BEAT EVER - When Chad's quad aces lost to my royal flush.

WORST BEAT EVER - The guy in the 2004 WSOP that flopped quad sixes, called an all-in on the flop, and was a huge favorite against pocket 9's...until running 9's came.

^^^^^^^^ yea, i realize the bet of the pot on the turn was a bit high, but at that point I think he has AK or AQ. I thought it mildly possible he had a pp, but the bet out of $2 post flop was a bit suspiscious. I mean dont get me wrong this guy is definately not a bad player at all

I said he was playing tight but every once in a while he'd showdown A-7 or A-8, thats why I said semi-tight, and his raise preflop was semi-small compared to the raises that had been made at the table that night.

i figured at worst for me he has JJ, at best for me he has A-8 or other junk. So even if my read was bad and he has JJ, i still had (with the info I had b4 i saw his actual hand) 16 outs. And that is why I was happy to try to take it at the turn. I mean what could he have thought I had? Even if he thought he had 15 outs, which he would have to put me on my hand, i think itd been hard to assume that. I mean had i hit a set, he's drawing to possibly only 7 outs.

o well, i just dont get the just call on the turn, that makes absolutely no sense to me

Having to fold KK sucks...

In Vegas I was playing No limit 1/2.

I was Big blind and I should have raised when it went around me but I just checked. Small blind called with Q/4. Q4 came on the flop. Most everyone folded but I stayed in until the turn and had to muck there when he bet 16. I knew he had me

I caught a flush on the flop and took the rest of his chips after that. I played him like a flute

forkgirl Gave me a lot of positioning advice and I attribute my winnings to her

made it all the way to the end of a multi table earlier, me and another guy left. fucker had like 4.5 times the amt of chips as me and was pushing me around pretty hard. raising preflop constantly, and betting big after the flop. shit lasted forever... trapped him a few times and eventually got it back to where he had like 2.7x my stack. he was still raising me preflop damn near every time, and i finally got a hand. AA. he raised, i reraised, he put me all in. i called

fucker had QQ, i was like hell yeah i got him, im about to have the lead and ill take his ass down

river queen

2nd aint bad, but i wanted that comeback so fucking bad against this douche. my conspiracy theory is that the poker site thought we were playing heads up for too long

the call of 19, i can merit a raise and a fold, but a call? what do yall think

i usually never overplay my big draws, but i thought I made a play where he wouldnt be able to call with AK, b/c his actions were screaming weak the whole time.

I mean i guess i misplayed this but damn

"

the AK was of clubs also. both of you overplayed your hand.

his proper move was to go over the top of you, and both of you play it ultra passive post flop.

sitting at the table, it was pretty obvious what was going down, but thats just from someone that wasnt in the hand.

Anyone ever associate metagame issues with their decisions in relation to a pot? as in associate some form of equity in the pot due to a non-monitary event?

for instance.

in the same game as mentioned above....

im holding K7o in the BB in the same 4 handed game as mentioned in the hand above. (it was a bigger game, but we busted everyone.. )

stacks

utg (folded) ~ $20
utg +1 (folded) ~$30
sb (posts $0.25, called pf) ~$35 (same player as mentioned in the above hand with the AK)
bb (posted $0.50 me,) ~$75 K7o
i raise to $1.00 and announce "min raises make baby jesus cry"
SB calls.

remember kids, in a short handed game, ultra aggro is key.

flop Kc 8h 2h

SB checks, I bet out $4

realize this is an overbet. realize exactly what this means.

sb calls. holy flush draw bat man, or the point of the overbet. pot $10

turn 7h.

sb checked (???)
i lead out with $8... thinking maybe if hes on a baby flush, hell fold (he has done that many times, ive bet out with lower flushes than his and taken it down, or worse holdings)

he goes over the top all in. for another $22 or so.

I was 90% sure he didnt have the Ah.

So for the pot that holds $48, im getting about 2.2 : 1 on the money to call the final $22.

so i figure if got the 2 7's, the 2 K's, the 13-1-3-2 = 7*0.9 = 6.3 remaining hearts for 10.3 outs to the river. with 44 unknown cards left (52-4-2-2(xHxH)), i figure im about 4.3:1 to hit my cards. or he could be on AhKx and i could be in good shape.

so. obviously i dont have the odds to call this right?

well.... heres the thing. it was getting late, and i was pretty damn tired. my thinking was that my game was deteriroating the later it got. it was time to take a shot. i was also thinking that if i busted the 4th player, it was very likely that the game would break, and i could go to sleep. I didnt feel as if the other two would have been too keen on a guy like me playing 3 handed with a 3:1 chip lead. It was worth it to me, to pay the difference in the odds in order to possibly end the game. this is the inclusion of a metagame issue into the equity of the pot.

so i called, and in reality, he was on QhJh, i was correct with the non A flush, and pretty much on for the entire read.

In reality, i was actually in a bit better shape then i thought i was.

pokenum -h kh 7c - qh jh -- kc 8h 2h 7h
Holdem Hi: 44 enumerated boards containing Kc 8h 7h 2h
cards win %win lose %lose tie %tie EV
7c Kh 11 25.00 33 75.00 0 0.00 0.250
Qh Jh 33 75.00 11 25.00 0 0.00 0.750

I was only truely sitting with a 3:1 odds situation with a 2.2:1 pot. So in reality i paid ~$5 to take the shot at ending the game.

it was worth it to me, would it have been to you?

You could've just said something too. I called a time once and completely lost track of it. Like 2 hours later we broke.

However, your assessment of the game is highly accurate. I had seen enough flops with 73 for one lifetime - let alone night. If you hit that hand, and busted Mr. AK (I can't remember his name), I would've ran out the door before you had the chance to stack your chips.

Though I would enjoy a rematch with y'all at any time.
