Spoilers for the Season Two trailer below..............

That's sort of the meaning I took from it initially. But after watching it again, I got a different reading on the line "they're not the survivors you think they are." I don't think it means that they're not the people that we've been told they are. It think it means that next season, they're going to have a whole lot more trouble surviving.

"What makes LOST a good show is that they're doing things differently. They're breaking the rules. "

different does not make it good

i'm not saying it's horrible, but it could be better

Quote :
"It's basically a variation of the first season of ALIAS. Stories didn't end at the end of an episode. They ended at the beginning of the next episode."

except Alias has better cliffhangers and better, quicker, more interesting answers and then they get on with the plot

LOST ends on a cliffhanger and then maybe answers it 3 episodes later if we're lucky and by then we've lost so much interest that the explanation doesn't live up to the hype

Quote :
"Sure they could show us the monster, show us what's at the bottom of the ladder. But then everybody would spend the summer bitching about whether they liked that revelation or not. And those people that didn't, might not watch the show at all next season. As it stands, everyones going to be talking about what might be down there, what the monster really is. You have to figure that most people are going to at least watch the season premiere to get the answers. And if the Season Two premiere is good, people will keep watching. Basically, it's easier to quit watching a show between seasons than it is to quit during a season."

i don't speculate what could be down there, that's a total waste of my time

all i want to do is watch and be entertained with what they make up

right now, i'm not entertained because they won't tell the story

it's all filler, filler and more filler so they can keep ratings

people are sucked into it now, but soon it's gonna come back to bite LOST in the ass

"The Others (assuming that's who was on the boat) are basically just normal people. Or if not, there is another group at work on the island."

already assumed the others were just normal people, especially since Ethan was just a normal person too...

Quote :
"Danielle is crazy."

she's been there for 16 years, that she's crazy should be a given

Quote :
"The Others wanted Walt all along and not Claire's baby."

i guess the problem is that i really don't care enough to be shocked that they wanted walt instead of the baby

Quote :
"Jin was planning on running off with Sun."

not surprised, again didn't really care

Quote :
"Fate didn't want Hurley on that plane."

that's subjective

and as i think you said before, no one on the island was really supposed to be on that plane

Quote :
"Locke considers Boone a scrifice to the island."

not surprising since Locke has embraced the island as a sacred entity, and i'm sure he's said something along the same lines before the finale

Quote :
"Michael was ready to give up on trying to be Walt's dad."

not surprising, he didn't know what to do with him in the first place anyway

Quote :
"The comic book belonged to Hurley."

why is that important?

Quote :
"Locke knows who Hurley is."

Locke knows a lot of things

Quote :
"Locke isn't quite as at peace with the island as he thought."

yeah, that happened, no one was really questioning that though, so what?

Quote :
"Hurley finds out about the numbers on the hatch."

omg he looked at the hatch and saw "the numbers"

we've already figured out that the numbers are significant

we know the hatch is already probably bad because:

1. boone died and had a hand in digging up the hatch
2. walt said don't open it, without even seeing it
3. sayid was super hesitant about opening it b/c there was no outside handle
4. Locke seems to intentionally find trouble

Quote :
"Locke seems to blatatly disregard Hurley's warning."

Locke has disregarded everybody's advice ever since his dad stole his kidney

Quote :
"The monster is definitely a machine or some sort of nanotech."

"Definitely" is a strong word

did you see any machines? yeah, we heard clanking and ratcheting, but how do we know that's not a red herring?

i do like the picture of the smoke you posted though, that's really interesting. looks kinda like faces or something

The fillers are great; because, they give the characters pulp. That never hurt a good story. It also makes it even more suspensefull; when, they're about to get killed off. I have only a slight idea on whats happening on this show, and I don't really want to try to speculate on the rest. Yet, it all seems so much more different than a regular plane crash on a island.

If they tell the story now, then it's over. And then there's nothing left. Did you watch Season Two of TWIN PEAKS? They revealed the secret that was the driving force of the show too early, and the show sucked after that. Of course, on the opposite end of the spectrum, you've got THE X FILES, which took way too long to get around to dealing with the big secrets. But LOST isn't even remotely close to that point yet.

why did hurley give walt the thumbs up when getting on the plane.

also those other two dudes on the boat looked pretty young, about jack, sawey, and michaels age.

anyone notice that when hurley's car breaks down on the way to the airport, the gauges has the numbers. 42km, 23 degrees Celcius, going 16km/hr, then the speed drops down to 15, 8, 4, then 0.

I've caught a few episodes of Lost (including the finale), and they've all been pretty much the exact same so far.You don't really know too much past the first episode (these people are lost on a weird island).

It seems pretty clear though that it IS some kind of fate-thing, in that they're all connected somehow. I think the numbers are no more significant except to signify their connections. I wish they would just move the story along though, they can take any direction they want at this point, still, it seems. I think it's lame though how they don't really let on anything about what's going on, and that's pretty much the reason I don't watch the episodes regularly.

Also, since Locke got a good look at the thing, why doesn't he talk about it? You'd think he would explain about what it looked like/felt like for the cameras.

I don't think the monster thing is mechanical or some type of technology, because it would be ridiculous, considering everything in the show, for it to be some kind of sci-fi thing. If they wanted to take it in that direction (which I think would be a slap in the face for the regular viewers), they could, but it would be lame. What reason would they have for introducing the idea that the gov. has secret, high-tech experiments? It could be alien in nature, but that would be even more lame. Considering the more "fantasy" nature of the show, it seems that it's most likely the island is trying to teach them all a lesson somehow about their screwed up lives (which is pretty cheesy itself). The things they see could be the result of some kind of psychic force.

I agree with this though. If they don't solve stuff soon, I think it will cause a backlash.

I <3 this show...Arrested Development is so awesome as well!

what was the light glowing out of the hatch window when Locke was crying over it?

why was kate's mom yelling "help me?"

could the flying black spirit thingies be part of this security system? are these possible experiments?

could the so-called virus be something that affects people's brain...affecting Locke?

I kept thinking about pirates after i saw the black rock for some reason...funny

I think the series is going to end up being like the Matrix, sort of. Where they are all in a computer, and the planet was suppose to reset their programs, because they were about to become aware of the Matrix.

The reason they want kids is because the kids can potentially be reprogrammed so the Machines can get good use out of them, at least. The numbers are the termination signal from the computers.

I don't think it will go sci fi, other than a government conspiracy with genetic breeding of animals and such.

I think its going to be a secret society that cannot have their own kids and need them for some devious work or sacfrice. I have also heard the argument that the people on the boat are modern day slave traders.

I think it's going to end up being that they're all actually dead, and that they are in some sort of purgatory. The numbers just represent that they all have similar levels of sins, and are going to a similar type of hell (similar to the Dante stuff), or maybe that just have to suffer a similar amount before going to heaven. They would never be able to escape from the island, until their punishment is served (taking the kid, and leaving the other guys on the boat is just more punishment-- something will come along later to get the other boat-guys back on the island).

I think this theory has been posted on every page of this thread, and each time someone has come along and pointed out that the writers/producers of the show have explicitely denied this theory.

I think it's actually all being caused by that one fat guy (he just acts too calm). The scene where the guy that got exploded was noting how he kept getting fatter while everyone else was losing weight indicates this, I think. The reason they can't get off the island is because the fat guy was really born there, and he has never been off the island, so he can't really fathom what else may be off the island. The flashback of him in the airport was really his mind concocting memories (since he has developed psychic powers from being alone all the while) from other people's minds. That's why he winked at the black kid in that weird way.
