If he can contribute even remotely offensively, that contract is solid gold. On the free agent market, where GMs apparently lose all common sense and financial management skills, a decent puck moving defenseman will go for 4 or 5 million.
Kimmo Timonen $8 million Bryan McCabe 7.15 million (LMAO) Wade Redden $6.5 million Sheldon Souray $6.25 million Rob Blake $6 million Brian Rafalski $6 million Andrei Markov $5.75 million Sergei Gonchar $5 million Roman Hamrlik $5.5 million Matthieu Schneider $5.5 million Pavel Kubina $5 million Adrian Aucoin $4 million Sergei Zubov $4 million Dan Boyle $3.625 million Tom Poti $3.5 million Marek Zidlicky $3.5 million Paul Mara $3 million
etc etc
Quote : | "What does Joe Sixpack want to watch: the Devils spank the Canes, or AO and Gaborik put on a danglefest?" |
With my massive man crush on Marian Gaborik, I will be excited to get to watch him on TV, but a Wild trapfest, while very entertaining to me, isn't that thrilling. Really I don't have a problem with them showing this game instead of the Canes, but I think they should stick to what they schedule originally instead of screwing teams over 2 weeks before the game so that no one in either market can watch it.2/11/2008 10:51:49 PM |

yes and these parings are also called lines in the hockey world. Yes corvo was +16 in LA, but lets remember he was next to Rob Blake2/12/2008 8:35:44 AM |

Stillman also believes in Ottawa's strength and has known for at least a month the possibility of this trade was strong.
Ottawa was one of several teams to approach Carolina's Jim Rutherford with interest in the veteran forward and Rutherford didn't hide that interest from Stillman. The Hurricanes general manager kept an open communication with Stillman throughout the process and understood the only team Stillman would waive his no-trade for was the Senators." |

They should be whining because that was a horribly blown call. There is no way that should have been allowed. In some ways I hope we blow them out so it doesn't matter, but then again I wouldn't mind winning by 1 just so I can laugh at Boston fans.
Actually, a win period would be nice. 2/12/2008 7:30:13 PM |

It needs to stay in, but it also needs to be rewritten. You can't have a guy taking a three foot swing with his entire leg to kick a stationary puck into the net, but you should be able to bring your foot into a deflection to get it there in time. 2/13/2008 1:38:07 PM |

Because it's hockey, not soccer.
You can't power it in with any other part of your body, so why should you be able to power it in with your feet? 2/13/2008 1:45:36 PM |

You can deflect it with your foot, body, knock it off the back of the goaltender, why not kick it too? 2/13/2008 2:21:48 PM |

Quote : | "The Hurricanes have opened contract talks with 2007 first-round draft pick Brandon Sutter in hopes of bringing him into the team when his junior season is over.
“The door has been opened for negotiations to start,” Hurricanes general manager Jim Rutherford confirmed today, adding that the Canes project Sutter to play in the NHL next season.
Sutter, a 6-foot-3, 174-pound center, plays for Red Deer of the Western Hockey League. He’s likely to be available to the Canes after March 15 if they can get him signed. As the 11th overall pick, he’s in line to get a three-year contract at the maximum entry-level salary of $875,000, but bonuses are always a point of discussion.
Sutter has 21 goals and 22 assists in 47 games for Red Deer this season. Over the long term, it remains to be seen whether Sutter will be a productive offensive player in the NHL or a third-line defensive center. " |
