Whats the deal with his mom?

I was assuming the whole time that this kid would want to leave raleigh b/c what big time basketball star wants to be in the same town he has grown up in. I figure he wants to get out n see the world so no local/hometown school but this mom thing changes the dynamic a little

^^He'll be in the NBA after next year, so that'll let him see plenty of the world. I would hope that, given his mom's condition, he'd want to stay close to home at least one more year.

In regards to his 1nDun should he decide to come, I am not so sure that it will be such a great thing for state. Sure he is a great ball player, but so as JJ and obviously he messed up our dynamic and I think the team may have been worse because of it. And I know there are a lot of you out there who will disagree, but Im not so sure a top 50 recruit who stays for 3 years wouldnt be better than someone who comes in like JJ, expects everything to revolve around him, and knows he leavin so isnt gonna put in the work to become a wolf.

^Lorenzo's going to need some help in the backcourt. Our PG play is far less than stellar. Get Wall in their with Lorenzo for a season. Wall's gone the following season, Lorenzo is more experienced, and we have Harrow coming in PG in the next year (and I guess Javi and Mays will still be around). Yes, it would be nice if we got Wall. Real nice.

The fuck are you talking about? JJ was the hardest worker on the team last year and it was costner and mccauley who couldn't man up and accept that he was going to be getting more playing time than them

In addition, it would also be very nice to get favors. We need someone to fill McCauley's void, and it's been apparent last season and so far this season that we need a rebounder and player with a serious defensive presence. And it seems like Favors is one of those stand-up guys who is very humble and down-to-earth. In conlcusion, I think it'd be great to get these two one-and-doners (if they are, in fact). We already have 3 solid players coming in that class that will stick around. (Although it's still not apparent how we have two more scholarships open, unless Costner is gone after this season or someone transfers. I asked earlier, but never got a response. Can players have their scholarships revoked?)

^^^^^Not to derail the thread again, but there are plenty of examples of 1 and dones making their teams contenders during that one season. Hell, look at derrick rose, michael beasley, and OJ mayo from just last season. Those teams, except for possibly memphis, are mediocre at best without those players.

Unlike football, one dynamic player can turn a team into a contender in one season. If we have a chance at a top recruit, we want them. Period.

^it's been discussed, but rumors are circulating that costner is gone. I am pretty sure scholarships are one year contracts, but most schools honor the entire thing so as not to seem shady. There are a handful of ways we could free up a scholly, but if we somehow land Favors and Wall, there will be no scholarship problem.

""we currently have 12 scholarship players if you count simon harris. you are allowed 13.

we're definitely losing fells, mccauley, harris

we're potentially losing costner, thomas... whoever else is suspect to transfer.

plus we have an open spot anyway.

so that's anywhere from four to six open scholarships, not including any tranfers, although i don't think we'll see any transfers.

we have three commits.""

I hate to hijack this thread, but the above quote is the best I can find. POSSIBLY FOUR. THEREFORE, POSSIBLY ONLY ONE MORE AVAILABLE. All I'm asking is if a schloarship can be revoked from a scrub if we want to recruit someone else. That's really all I want to know.

theoretically that could happen, but it wouldn't happen so bluntly. the player would publicly decide to transfer.

apparently we have now offered Deshonte Riley who has opened his recruitment back up
Center
Birmingham (MI) Country Day
AAU: The Family

Ht: 6-foot-10
Wt: 217 lbs
Class: 2009 (High School)
3 start center

The Latest: Riley does not sign, re-opens recruitment — 11/21/2008

The early signing period came and went and Dashonte Riley is still holding a National Letter of Intent from Georgetown. The Rivals150 center did not ink with the Big East school last week

Nothing new, but this article makes it sound like Baylor has the best shot at Wall, and we might have the best shot at Favors (or that's how i like to read it at least):

"Baylor hired his travel team coach, and the Bears have been promised to get Wall's last visit."

This is such a crock of shit that dirty coaches use to subrogate the NCAA recruiting rules. Sure you cant bribe the player, but you bribe someone really close to him with a super-overpaid position.

Jia Lucus heading to Miami?

Rumors are circulating on Rivals that mr. lucus will be joining the 'canes but then you have this
Quote :
"
Jai Lucas is NOT going to Miami

By Ben Volin | Saturday, November 22, 2008, 08:46 PM

A report surfaced Saturday on the Rivals.com affiliate of the Miami Hurricanes that basketball point guard Jai Lucas, who decided to transfer from Florida three weeks ago, is “likely” to play at Miami next year.

The site CaneSport quoted Lucas’ former AAU coach, who said “I’ve heard it’s serious with Miami, but it’s not confirmed yet. Miami, Texas and a couple of others want him.”

I found this a bit dubious, because when I spoke to Lucas two days ago, he mentioned five schools as his possible destination, and none of them was Miami.

So I called up Lucas on Saturday night. Turns out, I wasn’t the only one who hadn’t heard of the Lucas-to-Miami rumor.

Lucas laughed it off, and called the rumor “ridiculous.”

Here is our conversation, straight from the horse’s mouth:

Jai, real quick. … Miami Hurricanes?

No (laughing) … What about them?

They’re reporting on a Web site that it’s close to happening.

Me to the Miami hurricanes? I haven’t talked to nobody from Miami.

So you haven’t talked to anyone from Miami?

Naw (laughing) …

They have your AAU coach saying you want to play in Miami.

Haha, that’s ridiculous. No, I haven’t talked to nobody from Miami.

Where did they come up with that?

I don’t know. People been saying I’m heading to TCU and everything. I don’t know, people are coming up with crazy stuff.

It was on Rivals.com

Oh OK, I haven’t seen that. I haven’t heard about it ‘til now.

Do you know Coach Haith?

He recruited me when I was younger, like ninth, 10th grade, half of my 11th grade year.

He’s a Texas guy.

Yeah, I know.

So that report is totally false?

Yeah, I haven’t talked to nobody from there.

They’re saying it’s like a done deal.

Haha naw, I haven’t talked to anybody.

You’re not going to come out tomorrow and say, ‘I’m going to Miami?’

Haha, no, no, I’m not coming out and saying nothing.

What’s your schedule this week?

Tuesday I’ll go to Rice, and then the day after Thanksgiving probably head to Texas A&M, then that weekend, before I come back, go to UT (Texas)"

Baylor is looking good tonight against Herb. I thought they were trash, but apparently they're better than us from what I can see. I can see why Wall is so interested in them (besides his AAU coach being hired).

thats like all we know
hes an 09 recruit
a center
and a stud

thats all that has been said. gravis and james are saying that they were asked to wait to announce until he, the player, wants to

it needs to come out from their end.
and no one is budging on the low down

BigEgo ... you maybe right. John Wall has said publicly that he would like to play with him but i have heard that kid, sidney, is trouble but thats just hearsay from PP

(not the coach ... the recruit)

i'm 99% sure the secret recruit is Demarcus Cousins. He verbally commited to UAB but never actually signed anything because their coach will likely be fired by the time he gets there.
