^^ Don't worry they will keep throwing out players that didn't pan out for them. It will hurt them before too long and by then Butcher will be gone so he doesn't care.

Just look at that geographical diversity. I mean I love it when we keep the best players in-state from going elsewhere, but I also like mining the country for the best available players, especially in states where high school is really big like Georgia, Florida, Ohio, and South Carolina. You all will know that we've really arrived when we can go into Texas and California and get some good prospects.

Rickey Dowdy can potentially be an OLB. Hans Rice will supposedly start out at safety but grow into a WLB. Also we are pursuing Quandon Christian who had originally verballed to Clemson, but recently took an OV to State this past weekend.

None of these guys were recruited by Butch. It's not uncommon to see attrition from 4th year juniors and seniors who haven't cracked the 2 deep with a new coach. Also, Butch isn't going anywhere.

^^ so wait let me understand how it works. davis gets to take credit for putting bunting's recruits into the NFL (taylor and barth last year, nicks this year, tate if he can rehab and get on a roster) but when guys don't pan out, it's b/c they were the previous staff's recruits? so he doesn't have to honor any commitment to them? that's fucking marvelous

hell davis just let the best qb on his roster leave. what a fucking dolt.

^ It might not be fair but that's the reality of the situation. There is something to be said for player development though. I guarantee you won't see as much attrition with his own recruits.

Yates is the best QB at UNC. He was the most efficient passer in the ACC this season. If he can stay healthy in 2009, expect him to be one of the best in the league.

I realize that passer rating isn't the end all be all but it's a pretty good indicator of a QBs ability. There's no doubt in my mind that Yates is superior to Sexton.

And yeah, I agree the loss of Nicks will be tough to overcome in the passing game. Tate won't be as difficult since we played over 50% of the season without him anyway. We have a load of talented receivers but they are young and inexperienced.

You should update this. Of the 27 commits, 3 have already enroled so they count towards last years class. And does the number 16 include graduating seniors? You may have your numbers right (b/c with 3 NQ's and 3 from this year enrolling early its a wash) but I'd check that.

We were so far below 85 last year i would be highly surprised if we are over 85 even with a 27 man class.

Now that I look at it, we're technically at 90 right now, but thats including walkons who were previously awarded scholarships. IDK o'brien's policy on that.

The scholarship count I'm doing is solely based on the total amount of scholarships available. If you check the list, I've noted the guys that have are here spring semester. The number 16 that I used was based on toddl's list at the beginning of the recruiting year. I've counted down from that, right or wrong. I'm just doing this for fun but if you notice any glaring errors, let me know.

^^I think your numbers are correct...I was just surprised by them. You may actually be missing one to the other side based on packpride's count. I think you have us at 89, they have us at 90. I don't know where the difference is coming though.

did yates play 75% of the games this year? I think that might be a factor because he was injured, but I doubt he was more efficient that mr. wilson.

Edit: http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/player/profile?playerId=183674

Whoops, I guess he was.

Yeah but I doubt he would have been able to keep up that high of a number had he played the required amount. And he wasn't more efficient than Mr. Wilson on the day that mattered most.

Just for reference, Cam Sexton would have been the 2nd best in pass efficiency. I don't know how these numbers really determine how good a QB really is.

He dropped 1 sure TD against Wake, and 3 other passes, 1 of which he was so open he should have scored but he would have had to outrun a safety 30 yards.

Against UNC though I only remember him dropping 2 sure touchdowns.

IIRC he dropped a long pass against miami too but it was at least in coverage. Did he drop a possible TD against rutgers too before the one he actually caught?

Recruiting notebook: Bulldogs' Stewart elite as a junior
Boiling Springs offensive lineman one of 500 invited to Army combine

Boiling Springs offensive lineman Logan Stewart had a memorable New Year's holiday.

The 6-foot-5, 265-pound junior spent Jan. 1-3 in San Antonio at the U.S. Army National Combine.

Stewart was one of 500 high school juniors from across the nation invited to the combine and the only local player to achieve the honor.

"I got a letter back in October. It said that (I was) one of 500 athletes to be invited to a prestigious combine," Stewart said. "It was a great feeling to be selected as one of the best in the nation."

Stewart was evaluated in the bench press, 40-yard dash, short shuttle, vertical jump and one-on-one competition.

"I did real well in the one-on-one's," he said. "Afterwards, (recruiting services) Rivals.com and Scout.com wanted my information and what schools I was talking to."

Stewart has been contacted by a number of schools, including South Carolina, Clemson, Alabama, Buffalo, Duke, Georgia, N.C. State, Tennessee, Vanderbilt, Virginia, Wake Forest and West Virginia.

He has visited South Carolina, Clemson and N.C. State, and is favoring the Wolfpack and Commodores.

"I like N.C. State and Vanderbilt.
(Vanderbilt offensive coordinator Ted) Cain is my contact, and he coached with my former athletic director Jeff Snipes," Stewart said. "Wake Forest and Virginia have come by, and West Virginia sent a film request."

Stewart added that Georgia and Tennessee are making a strong push.

"My plans are to weigh my options when it comes down to time," he said. "Academics have a lot to do with my decision. But, the best fit for me is what I'll base my decision on."

I find it intresting that we are 10 days from NSD and a NC State recruiting thread has turned into a discussion of the passing efficiency of a UNC QB.
