Forgive NyM's jarbled verbosity. What he was essentially saying is that for on-court and recruiting purposes, everything that happened before this year doesn't matter. Gottfried's lack of history with State makes it easier to see that, as opposed to someone like Lowe, who used his success as a player 30 years ago to disguise his ineptitude as a coach today.

Would have lost anyway, but very questionable scouting and game plan coming in. We came in with the naive game plan -- aka, the game plan you would come up with if you had never seen UNC or NCSU play.

Posting up our guy and going 1-on-1 against their 7 footers was never going to work. All the shitty shots by our frontcourt turned into fast break points. You also have to double down or play zone because our bigs cannot guard their bigs without fouling. Lastly, Lorenzo Brown never tried to take it to Marshall, and that was the one area where we had an advantage.

Anyway, all of this is shit many of us said before the game. Disappointing to see us come out and try stuff that even casual fans know won't work.

Maybe this year, being gelded on national TV will spur our guys to play seriously in the return game.
