the NFL needs to get rid of Goodell.... He's abusing his power. Let's recap what has happened under the Goodell regime
Off the top of my head: 1.) Pro Bowl moved to the weekend before the Super Bowl in Miami 2.) Lockout 3.) Manipulating the cap to punish teams who took advantage of an uncapped year... Who got hurt by the Skins and Boys doing this? Neither one of them came close to sniffing the playoffs that year 4.) Taking draft picks, suspending a HC for a year, and fines over something that probably happens throughout the entire league. I get that he is trying to draw a hard line, but players sexually harass and beat women and get off with lesser penalties..
Never thought I would be actually siding with James Harrison 3/21/2012 1:33:02 PM |

Okay, I'll give him moving the first round of the draft to Thursday night...,
And I understand him trying to set a standard, but going after Payton for a year is the wrong way to do it... Go after Williams and banish him from the league if you want and suspend Payton for a few games. To suspend Payton for a year is excessive...
V So, it's something to reward the players for a great year

yeah moving a game that nobody cares about is a HUGE DEAL.
the only thing he's done fucked up is this Dallas/Washington salary cap deal. NFL is gonna get sued and they should lose.
Payton deserves every bit as harsh a punishment as williams. he knew about it and didn't stop it, if he didn't get involved in paying bounties himself.

Player Safety is the #1 issue facing the NFL right now. They are up to their fucking eyeballs in litigation due to concussions and retired players experiencing severe health issues-- having employees who encourage behavior (or turn a blind eye to it) that can lead to severe injuries to other employees is one of the worst things they can have happen.] 3/21/2012 3:45:17 PM |

NFL players already get paid to hit/hurt other players, the bounty program was just extra money some got. Injuries won't stop just because the program is over... The punishment is a little harsh. 3/22/2012 12:17:50 AM |

Nfl players get paid to tackle/block other players, not injure. Injuries are part of the game, yes. But the intent of the players shouldn't be to injure the other team. That's barbaric. 3/22/2012 12:26:41 AM |
Sleik All American 11177 Posts user info edit post |
I wouldn't say our defense had a stellar record of injuring players--
I'm not talking about season/career-enders, but I doubt we even landed guys on the following week's injury report at a significantly higher rate than any other team in the league.
I think giving Payton such a harsh suspension was ridiculous, especially when former Gggggreggggg Williams players have gone on record (TV and in print) and said similar programs were in place at his previous coaching jobs. I think his "indefinite" suspension should last at LEAST 10 years now that Payton has gotten a one-year ban (I was previously in favor of a five-year ban, assuming Payton would miss half the season at most).
St. Louis can actually hire a new defensive coordinator in a zero-sum situation (ie, Williams has never coached those guys), we have to find a replacement head coach (we'll probably promote from within, but still) AND a new assistant coach (Joe Vitt got a six-game suspension). I'm seeing Steve Spagnuolo and Pete Carmichael Jr. somehow serving those two capacities.

They weren't dumb. It was an uncapped year, so they spent a fuck ton of money. That's smart. The NFL is gonna lose when those two owners take this to court. The justice system doesn't like collision when talking about labor issues.3/22/2012 8:37:09 AM |
