played the cataclysm demo today at blizzcon.... not saying the expansion wont be cool, but man that demo was boring as hell. you get to pick between the goblin and worgen level 5 character and you just run around and do like 5 collecting/killing quests and then they boot you off.
you have the possibility of finding some item and getting a free poster, but thats not enough reason to play through multiple times. 8/23/2009 2:07:00 AM |

I'll definitely come back for this expansion. A lot of prior speculation about exp#3 was that it would take place mainly in underground/underwater zones with the Goblin city Undermine as the main neutral hub. It looks like they added some of that in. I don't think anybody was thinking of them re-doing all the old world content. The Worgen seem pretty cool too.
Also the "Cataclysm" will take place if you own the expansion or not. All the zones will get fucked up, some will change through quests and phasing. I assume that we will see this happen shortly before the exp is released. Only the new zones are blocked to those who don't have the exp. 8/23/2009 9:48:54 AM |

been very bored as of late. do you think it would be reasonable for me to come back?
i played eq for years and wow for about 5 months so i can grind up to whatever the level cap is pretty quick, but would it be worth my while if i dont plan to do serious raiding?
ideally id like to do smaller/short raids (like regular 5-10 man shit from original release) for decent, but not insane gear. also would be really interested in battleground type stuff.
doable? if so, does anyone on here do something similar and would be interested in having another? i generally play support (but non healing) classes or tank. played lock at release (enchanter in eq).

As for the xpac, that shit is going to be amazing. Your complaints had nothing to do with the actual game and everything to do with the amount of time you got to play and how there were so many people in the same area. 8/23/2009 6:56:48 PM |

Did 10 man ToC for the first time last night and omg.... the 3rd fight was soooooooooooo fun.
We wiped for like 15 minutes until we got a solid strat and it was fun fighting a monster that doesn't have a set time for doing this move and a set time for moving here, etc. The rogue even started spamming FoK when it was about to die.... we all ROFL'd. It was just like arena. 8/25/2009 11:12:03 AM |

We got hung up on 10 man because people were still in the pve mindset. I was assigned to lock down the tree (banish, banish, fear, fear, death coil, repeat) but no one was peeling off the main target to get the assholes off of me.
I'm going to bring my pvp trinket and my destro pvp spec so I have shadowfury to stun in addition to the above. Glyphed shadowflame to slow and then teleport away and MAYBE someone will realize I need help before I get greased by the targets they aren't focusing down at the time. 8/25/2009 11:30:01 AM |

Almost as "tuff" as someone who /flexes for PvP on a carebear server?
And really . . . you get your jollies by rolling lowbies in Grizzly Hills? What...Hillsbrad finally got too easy for you after being 80 for a while?
If you really want to ruin someone's day, you do it in Icecrown. Attack a group doing Threat from Above. Start attacking someone doing Battle for the Citadel when they are on their mount (after all, they can't attack you back). If you are an elemental shaman, wait for ppl to get too close to cliff edges then shunt them off.
So many interesting ways to do World PvP (the best PvP IMO), yet you brag about rolling over scrubs. Its a forgotten art, I suppose. 8/26/2009 11:45:47 AM |

Crikey!
Who said anything about lowbies? Level 80's do dailies too.
None of the icecrown dailies flag you, so that's irrelevant. However, I do run my icecrown dailies with my flag up and I have been attacked while killing chillmaw and still pwned them.
Is that what you're complaining about? This type of action is "carebear" or "stealing candy from a baby"? I have to be on a server where there are 30 other alliances jumping on me at the same time to have fun killing a real player?
FUCK! If anything running around flagged on a pve server is MORE difficult than a PVP server. It always gives the other player first strike capabilities.

PVP server: everyone always flagged. 2 players meet, both players can immediately engage. PVE server w/ 1 person flagged: 2 players meet, one player can follow me around, prepare in any way they want, wait for the opportune moment and then use whatever long ass casting spell they want to blast me before I can respond.
Please explain to me why my original statement was off. I'm not saying PVP servers are easier. You can't turn your flag off on a PVP server. However, rolling around flagged on a PVE server puts you at a severe disadvantage that you would not have on the PVP server.
You cannot snag initiative in this situation and I assumed all you l33t pvpers would have known that that is the most important part of a pvp battle.

lol because the likelihood that you're going to be attacked by an unflagged PVE player is equal to or significantly greater than the likelihood you're randomly pom pyro'd at low health on a pvp server.
and explaining the mechanics of PVE flagging isn't necessary to convey your "point"
I started out on an RP server because I didn't completely understand what it was until I had already progressed too far and made friends, etc. I'd flag every now and then to satiate my 'big kid' pvp mentality, but in the end I was just in denial. PVP > *

Did I say "You are more likely to get ganked on a PVE server?"
Plus, you're telling me, with the only difference between the two situations is that
THE ENTIRE OTHER FACTION IS IMMUNE TO YOUR OFFENSIVE ABILITIES
until they attack that it's worse on a PVP server? It may be that I don't get attacked as often as I would on a pvp server because there aren't as many people looking to attack me but you have to admit that running flagged on a PVE server offers some unique setbacks that you don't get on PVP.
You're the only yellow nameplate in a sea of blue. Alliance chat is filled with calls of "flagged BE lock". I'm not talking shit about PVP servers; it's tough as shit to level and actually get anything done. I'm just defending my stance because the concept of having fun and challenging PVP oustide of PVP servers is blowing your collective minds.

No, it blows our minds that you think running around on a PvE server flagged is more difficult than a PvP server.
Its not unique. There are plenty of PVP server encounters where two ppl meet, just ignore each other, and then someone attacks the other right after a pull. You say PvE severs allow one player to choose when to attack the other? Its almost as if you have never encountered stealth, flying mounts, or even rocks that you can hide behind.
The only thing that PvE offers that is different is a multitude of opportunistic mouth-breathers who only flag when they need to. They are also known as free HKs, as you so pointed out in your first post. Geeze, I wish free HKs would just come to me all the time. PVE servers have unique challenges!8/26/2009 1:36:56 PM |

Quote : | "They are also known as free HKs, as you so pointed out in your first post." | Me running around flagged....am I the free HK? If so, is it wrong to feel a sense of accomplishment when I deny them the free HK in a situation stacked against me?
Or am I somehow getting free HKs by putting myself at a specific disadvantage?
Quote : | "You say PvE severs allow one player to choose when to attack the other? Its almost as if you have never encountered stealth, flying mounts, or even rocks that you can hide behind." |
Because these situations don't exist on a PVE server *in addition* to the aforementioned disadvantage? Please enlighten me, oh master PVPer. You don't think rogues go stealth on my server or nobody flies above me right at clip range to swoop down at the opportune moment? How does me being flagged preclude the possibility that I get jumped unaware as well?

A lot of PVE players only unflag when they want to try for an easy kill. They don't know how to play a real PvP fight. They are one-and-done. Since you are flagged and expecting them, survive their intro then beat them. You may occasionally run into someone who knows how to play, but then they are probably always flagged too, right? So that brings us back to the balanced scenario.
Quote : | "Because these situations don't exist on a PVE server *in addition* to the aforementioned disadvantage?" |
Ding ding ding! You finally got it, yet STILL don't understand. The point is that these scenarios where someone can jump you at their leisure and have the advantage ALWAYS exists. There is NOTHING unique about being flagged on a PVE scenario.8/26/2009 2:13:35 PM |

^^So now you're trying to spin being flagged into an advantage? Bravo sir! And it is unique to PVE servers. This gameplay functionality does not exist on PVP servers. Every other gameplay functionality does exist between them. I'd pretty much call that a unique feature. I'm not saying that the environment is exactly the same; hell they are certainly not. There aren't roving bands of griefers on my server.

The situation that appears when you're manually flagged on a PVE server in a contested zone is different than the situation when you're automatically flagged on a PVP server in the same zone.
Not that you'll read it, but here's a decent explanation from someone who went from PVP to RP server. Maybe I should find the writer and invisible high five him so I can feel cool too! http://greenhunter.wordpress.com/2008/07/24/why-flagging-on-a-pve-server-can-make-a-pvper-qq/
