Jordan Brand Classic rosters released. No BeeJay, but Julius Randle made the team and is listed by scout.com as a Kentucky commit, hmmmmmm

so basically that game is "let's take commits from top teams and put them on the rosters" and ignore everyone else 2/12/2013 12:27:43 PM |

Not surprising none of our commits made it, all slid down in the last rankings. Think Anya and Barber are on less than spectacular teams, and Washington is on a really solid team, to the point he's fighting for minutes. 2/12/2013 12:31:14 PM |

At the other end of the recruiting spectrum, I came across an alleged 2013 preferred walk-on commit that goes to the same prep school as Washington.

Looks like the Brewster coach tweeted about his commitment back on 12/28/2012
He is also listed as a State commit on the Brewster webpage.

Obviously old information, but I had not heard about it.

If Noel's season is over, he's going to be looked at as a liability for the impending NBA draft, right? Wouldn't that mean he has to spend another year at Kentucky, and wouldn't that likely force Randle to take Kentucky off his list? 2/13/2013 10:33:13 AM |

Quote : | "Barber Breaks Peninsula District Scoring Mark By James Henderson Pack Pride Posted Feb 13, 2013
NC State signee Anthony Barber broke former Waker Forest standout Tony Rutland's Peninsula District scoring record in Hampton's 62-40 win over Menchville on Tuesday night.
"On what everyone knew would be his record-breaking night, Hampton's Anthony Barber was in a groove with 11 points early in the second quarter. At that rate, Tony Rutland's Peninsula District scoring mark would be history by halftime.
"Then came Barber's third foul, which forced him to the bench for the final 5:35 of the first half. His rhythm disappeared, and the record was still Rutland's going into the final eight minutes.
"Barber didn't rediscover his stroke, but he ended up with more than enough for the record. Barber's 20 points move his career total to 1,981, five more than he needed, and the second-seeded Crabbers handled No. 7 Menchville 62-40 in Tuesday's PD quarterfinals."" |

Noel coming back could only help us with Randle because it would lessen the amount of schollies Cal has to give. Randle isn't the only guy they have left on board. Would love for more their other targets to commit so it can take Kentucky out of the running.
Regardless, I think we're battling Kansas/Texas/Florida for Randle. I think Kentucky is the least of our worries. 2/14/2013 10:20:40 AM |

speaking of Cal, I wonder how he even has more scholarships to offer. He has 6 commits already for the 2013 class. I'm wondering when UK will start to see the effects of the APR scholly penalties. He's had like 7 one-and-dones in the past 3 years. He has sensationalized the model that he runs, but surely it can't sustain long-term success. 2/14/2013 10:48:54 AM |

The loophole in the APR requirement is that the kids just have to leave in good standing. 2/14/2013 10:53:30 AM |

Kentucky will always have a roller coaster like model for their program under Cal. The limiting agent is not the APR rating ... but rather the fact that when you have no valuable upperclassmen, you miss out on a great deal of attributes that make most championship teams great. He may get lucky every once in a while and pull in a slew of freshman/sophs who can play well together and are all #1 at their position, but there will always be great teams to oppose them who have junior/senior leaders, more chemistry, and are better coached (or any 2 of those 3).
This year is a perfect example of that. 2/14/2013 11:34:00 AM |

It doesn't make any sense for him to come back. He'll be a top 5 draft pick without taking another step on a basketball court. If he comes back he only risks another injury. Even if he doesn't injure himself he'll lose a year of getting paid millions. No way he comes back. 2/14/2013 12:06:50 PM |

Yeah, talking about Noel. The injury may help us if UK sucks it up this year and loses during the 1st weekend of the tournament (and we make a long run). Or maybe we face them in the tournament and beat them. But even then I don't see if making much difference. Kentucky can just point to last year's title.
Bottom line - it probaby won't make any difference.

"Look. If you go to UK, you're more likely to play in more games, cause you'll make it farther in the NCAAT and you'll always win the SEC. More games means more risk of injury... You don't want that, do you?" 2/14/2013 12:54:11 PM |
