Tough loss tonight; Florida played really well. The good news is that Weight got 2 assists, and Recchi looked very good. Payback tomorrow night hopefully.

Yeah, tough loss. It started out really well but then Florida just started to play a lot harder. Can't win them all I suppose.

DOUG WEIGHT. HAS SCORED A GOAL.

Or maybe Mark Recchi. Not sure; they were both there. But either way, one of them has scored.

Well damn. That game really sucked. Give up a 2 goal lead in the 3rd then lose in OT. I guess the good thing is that at least we got a point.....

Erm, turnovers are hurting us right now.

A few more goals might've saved a win, of course, but I'd rather lose a game featuring solid defense than win 6-3 and have all three GA be terrible giveaways.

^ I feel like I say this all the time, but they're HOCKEY players.

They don't pull that pansy bullshit. Quite the opposite, in fact. They played their asses off in Philly, and Colesy was gone then, too...they just ran into Niitty at the wrong time.

Yes, the Canes played poorly both nights in Florida. That doesn't change the fact that Panthers are hot right now (they roasted Ottawa 6-2 on Wednesday), Jokinen is a wrecking ball because of his new contract, and they have the best goaltender in the league.

They had 5 road games. They are playing at home on Tuesday. Then they go back on the road for 4 games.

Michigan is doing well in their conference tournament, and Jack Johnson scored the game winner for them the other night. Someone at Hockey's Future posted this from the Ann Arbor News:

Quote :
"The crowd, including Johnson's parents, chanted: "Three more years, three more years,'' for the school's highest-ever NHL Draft pick - No. 3 overall last summer by the Carolina Hurricanes.

"The only way you're going to get me out of here is at gunpoint,'' said Johnson, who supplanted Dean Turner as the school's all-time highest scoring freshman defenseman."

People say all sorts of things in moments of joy.

We'll see if he changes his tune later on, especially if Michigan can manage to get to/win the Frozen Four.

not to mention the canes are probably willing to take him out of there at gunpoint.

From what I hear, his dad is real big on getting a full college education, so I'm sure that will influence him. Most people tend to think a little differently when a huge load of money is waived in front of them, though.

When do the playoffs start? I know hockey players dont like to jinx things but i dont think me asking will hurt since im not a hockey person.

I thought this was an interesting article on respect in the NHL

Quote :
"PHILADELPHIA - It looked frightening on television: Pittsburgh's Brooks Orpik rams Carolina's Erik Cole headfirst into the boards. Cole suffers broken vertebrae in his neck and will miss two months.

Whatever you think of the NHL's product these days, one thing seems to be a constant: The respect players show one another on the ice remains at an all-time low. Now, when a player bends over along the boards, he is considered fair game to get pummeled.

In Cole's case, well, as Carolina GM Jim Rutherford said this week, "A fraction one way and Erik doesn't get hurt at all. A fraction the other way, he could have been ... `'

Rutherford could not finish his sentence. It upset him how close his player came to breaking his neck and perhaps being in a wheelchair for life."

If the Canes face Pittsburgh in the playoffs, then Pittsburgh will sweep them, because that would mean Pittsburgh won 20 games in a row to end the season, and all of the other Eastern Conference bubble teams lost almost all 20 of theirs.

New forward lines for tonight:

Whitney/Staal/Recchi
Stillman/Brind'Amour/Williams
Ladd/Weight/Cullen
Adams/Adams/LaRose

rofl Ray Whitney is awesome. Always skating by in the background during the pre-game interview attention whoring it up.

http://www.sportsline.com/nhl

seems like an unfair lead story

we lost one game with .6 of a second left

had a two goal lead in the last of the 3 game slide

and we were on a long road trip.....just shows how much work the canes have to do as compared to some of these other powerful franchises to stay in the media, and to maintain the level of respect

2 overtime losses (1 in a shootout) and we drop to 4th on the power rankings, we are still 2nd in points jackasses!
