Because all his sitters will be at the funeral. My grandmother died yesterday. The funeral is 2 hours away and the visitation isn't far enough away to go home and come back.

Babies are great at funerals. Seriously, it allows people a moment of happiness through their grief. And you will want him there to hold while you grieve.
Personally, I would get him something dressy. When I took my baby to the two funeral's she's been to in her short 9 months, she wore a pretty white dress with smocking. But really, I don't think you can go wrong as long as it looks presentable. I wouldn't put a baby in black. 4/30/2014 3:46:12 PM |

I've been receiving Bulu Box for the past three months, and I really like it. I just signed up my mom for a subscription as a Mother's Day gift.
You fill out a profile and they send you samples of health/fitness/nutrition products. There are two choices, the regular box and the weight loss box, and each one comes with 4-5 samples. I've actually received one full-size product in each box so far. Some of the stuff is woo, but I've really enjoyed most of it - especially the protein powders and bars.
Here's my referral link: http://curebit.com/x/MyrQe7. It gives you a BOGO coupon code for a box!

I've taken my son to two funerals and he's been very welcome at both.
A moving moment when my dad was doing my grandfathers eulogy; he stopped playing with his toy at his seat and was looking for his PauPau. He say quietly during those minutes just listening and watching. So do bring a quiet toy or book for him to play with is my best advice. And of course if he gets too loud just take him out. But I guarantee you some family member or friend of the deceased if going to want to squeeze that kiddo.
I put him in the nicest pair of pants and collared shirt. One was a winter funeral and he wore a sweater over the shirt. 5/2/2014 11:26:48 AM |

We ended up just wearing the teal shorts and plaid button up. He stayed in the stroller during the entire visitation and in my ergo during the service. Everyone at the visitation knew who he was (even if I didn't know them) and said how glad they were that she got to hold him so I'm happy we took him. 5/8/2014 10:21:48 AM |

I know most of you people have real lives and real jobs but I thought I could get some opinions.
I'm thinking of embracing this stay at home southerm mommy thing and doing some sort of independent consultant work to supplement my part time nanny munnies. How do you guys feel about that stuff and being invited to parties, both home parties and online ones? The two companies I am currently researching are Jamberry nail wraps and 31 bags. I don't plan on becoming a millionaire but I would like to have a little nest egg for fun stuff and splurging on stuff I would like but don't really need. I am doing a lot of financial research but I would like real people's opinions on the products and the idea of "Tupper ware parties." Also if you know other companies that you like I'd love to hear it. 5/16/2014 2:20:41 PM |
BridgetSPK #1 Sir Purr Fan 31378 Posts user info edit post |
I have had the bags purchased for me as gifts, and I like them.
I would just be sure to look into whatever company you choose to work with to check that it is a fair deal and too much won't be required of you to actually make some cash.
I don't know how you're planning to run your side biz, but I personally do not buy stuff from friends or acquaintances. Your people might not be too enthused about it either so I wouldn't count on this being a social affair.
If I'm allowed to be a bit mean about it...depending on how you do things, I would likely not consider you an "independent consultant." I would consider you a hustler, promoting overpriced stuff to friends and family so you can pocket the extra cash. Most people can't pull that off; it's just not a good look. And you certainly wouldn't want to participate in a business where you're expected to recruit other people to sell stuff, too. That's bad news.

Please be mean and honest. I want to go in to this (or not) with real expectations. I will probably throw my first "party" and invite friends and family with the disclaimer that I am just practicing. If you buy stuff, great, if not I won't hold it against you. After that is where I get stuck. How do I find other people to sell to without annoying people I know? The "hustlers" I have talked to typically end up having at least one guest from each party decide to host a party themselves, especially with how easy a Facebook online party is. It lasts about a week and there are no time commitments. But where do I find people to host if my first party is a dead end?
I am almost positive I can recoup my startup cost so I will probably try one but I really want to try to sell in a way that won't really annoy everyone. I know some will be annoyed no matter what but I can deal. I will probably annoy everyone here about it at least once but that's nothing new. 5/16/2014 5:08:59 PM |

Of the women I've known who have done things like Jamberry and Mary Kay, you really do have to hustle and push it on people more than you'd like to make a constant income
I think there are other online things you could do to earn money (mechanical Turk, etc) that would be easier 5/17/2014 2:36:51 PM |

I don't know anyone involved in multilevel marketing schemes that made enough money to compensate for their time and effort. My mom and brother have both been sucked in at one time or another. When you get into the fine print, you have to buy your catalogs and supplies, pay for your website access, and maintain a certain number of sales. With Jamberry, after your costs, you make $200 for every $1,000 of product sold. And 1 of every 4 sheets is free. Then think about how long the nail shields last. You'd have to constantly bring on new customers to maintain your sales numbers. Read your fine print. Don't listen to anyone trying to bring you onto their team because they're just trying to make money off of you. I would never consider any MLM for the purpose of making money. If I were extremely bored or really into the product and a people person, I might do it for fun. But never to make money. I've seen people close to me really burned by pyramid schemes and don't fool yourself, all of these little mommy direct sales "businesses" are pyramid schemes. 5/17/2014 7:28:39 PM |
elise mainly potato 13090 Posts user info edit post |
I know it is a pyramid scheme. Don't worry. And I just want some pocket change to splurge on myself. I don't want to make a living on it. I am doing a ton of research on what money I would have to put it. The thing that stopped me so far is that after the first quarter for both Jamberry and 31 you have to pay a fee for your website. Other than that I there aren't other recurring fees unless I want to purchase more products. But the websites aren't cheap. Jamberry is the least expensive at about 25 a quarter. 31 is 15 bucks a month but if you sell 1000 dollars worth of product a year it is free. And neither company forces you to recruit people.
But I am interested in that turk thing. Especially if it doesn't cost anything to start. I feel weird paying to get a job. 5/17/2014 8:20:23 PM |

Mechanical turk is through amazon. It's crowd sourcing. It costs nothing and there are various tasks with differing pay outs. In some ways it's similar to ChaCha, but not exactly. I started an account but never really got into it because I started spending less time on the net. 5/17/2014 8:30:56 PM |

You are better off using whatever talent you have to make things and sell them on etsy than to try and do MLM. Anyone I know that gets sucked into MLM, isn't my friend for much longer because they all try to guilt you into buying their overpriced crap. Thankfully all my friends now are too smart to get suckered into it. I'm trying to grow out my eyebrows for real this time - last time I only gave it a month. But they're growing in all wonky and it looks ridiculous. I have brow gel that's supposed to help them grow (allegedly), but it's been over two months and they seem to be filling in everywhere except where I want. FWP.
Suggestions? Should I just give up? 6/4/2014 2:08:19 PM |

I had/have that same problem. A couple years ago I tried growing mine out, but there are some weird thin patches from years of plucking - I've resigned myself to the fact that they're probably not going to fill in. I know shape them as best as I can, and then when I'm feeling fancy will fill those spots in with brow pencil (and they look 100x better when I do).
I bought an ELF brow pencil years ago and it's all I use. three dolla to make you holla

I love getting my nails done after work during the week. They always have a good family vibe going with the evening news on, somebody cooking dinner in the back, kids doing homework, some old person sleeping in a pedicure chair...it's super chill, and I kinda like to pretend I'm part of the fam.
^^I've tried many times to get mine to come in. I want em thick like an 80s Brooke Shields. The longest I went without touching them was almost a year. Of course, they didn't really do like I wanted them to. I think I just didn't really have thick brows to begin with.
But yours look like you might eventually get some extra full ones--way better than mine did. So hang in there! 6/6/2014 5:30:57 PM |
