Playmaker's, Monday night:

Myself and other guy are last two standing, just started heads up play. We have about even chip stacks, trade blinds for a couple hands...

Then I am on the BB, with about another BB more in chips than him...I hadn't even had a chance to look at my cards when he pushes all in....i look and it turns out i'm sittin on KK, so I call without hesitation and am feelin pretty good about winning the tourney. He flips over QA off, and I think I better not see a fucking ace....well flop and turn are useless (although he pairs a queen) but guess whats on the fucking river? ACE. i subsequently died on the next hand

is there something I missed? or is that about the only way anyone would have played it? it just sucked because i had been chip leader almost all night and then had it snatched away at the last minute like that. oh well its not like we were playing for cash

Gotta love it... 2 MT tourney busts in 3 minutes

AJ suited runs into AA, when I was way shortstacked and had to go preflop.

Flop Axx
Turn J
River J

Ouch...

Then I get KdQd and call a small PF raise on the 5th hand of a new game...
Flop 3 3 Q He bets, I call
Turn 3 He bets, I push. He calls instantly With AJ off
River 3

I could handle the A, but the 3 is just cruel.

100 person MTT, R&A allowed, but beyond R&A time period.

JdTd on the button, blinds 100/200, in 5th place with 9000 chips, ~45 remain, top 10 get paid.

UTG has about 2500 chips, MP has about 7000

UTG makes it 400, MP calls, I call, both blinds fold.

1500 in the pot.

flop comes KdQdJh.

UTG checks, MP bets 1500 chips.

what do you do?

btw, it was a $5 tournament, i playing while fucking around on the internet.. i wasnt too interested in just barely making the money, i wanted a top 3. at that time, the current chip lead was ~11k chips, and this pot would help the cause termendously.

what is your play?

just call. by placing the 1500 chip bet out there I would bet that MP will call a large reraise and your implied odds of winning his stack if you hit your flush or straight allow you to call.

it being online,

i fold that shit

its likely that MP has KQ,QJ,AJ, and though he could very well have A 10, trying to spike an A or 9 isnt worth it at that time in the tourney for about 17% of your chips, not to mention if one of your possibly 10 outs (im giving trip Js as a winner) doesnt come on the turn, and he bets about 3500, what do you do then?

i dont think you are seeing the flush either..

heres my thinking.

outs:

monster nut outs (with redraw protection): Ad, 9d
nut straight outs: As, Ac, Ah
non-nut straight outs: 9s, 9c, 9h
2nd nut flush draw outs: 2d, 3d, 4d, 5d, 6d, 7d, 8d
maybe good trips outs: Js, Jc, Jh

total outs : 2+3+3+7+3-(1+1) [discounts for flush and trip outs] = 16.

16 i would be comfortable hitting.

probable hands up against.

Impossible for him to have flopped nut straight and nut flush draw. I have the Td.
nut straight. (keep in mind i have one of the 4 tens)
set.
two pair.
TPTK (maybe with the Ad)
AdXd (most unlikely)

I like my redraws against most of these hands, and the pot is already pretty large.

Lets look at some odds:

So, should i like my position here? I do.

remember that in tournaments, your number one priority is to accumulate as many chips as possible as fast as possible. Youve got to win a few coin flips in order to win money. I think that it was most likely to be a coinflip due to the hand action, instead of the AdTx, why wouldnt he let me bet into him with that strong of hand.

What is the chance that If i push all in, hell fold his hand?

Halo mentioned above that He is committing himself to push it all in by making such a bet.

i disagree. thats the logical thing to think, but how often do you see the logical play made online..... maybe 70% of the time?

So there is indeed a decent chance he'd laydown to a large raise.

In conclusion, i figured that the amount in the pot already made up for the potential loss in ev. I also did NOT want to have to make a decision on the turn if i missed.

I raised all in, and he calls.

He shows AhKh. exactly what i want.

$50-100 buy in nl, pokerroom networks.
3/6->10/20 6-max limit HE - party poker networks
PLO8 -> party poker networks
2/4 -> 5/10 LOH8 - ultimate bet
.50/1 -> 2/4 LOH8 - absolute poker
>5/10 LOH8, 6-max LHE -> pacific poker
pineapple - paradise
Razz - full tilt

tournaments: bodog usually has overlays.
SNG's: party
HU SNG's: ultimate bet.
7CS tournaments on absolute are ripe.

and for the record.......

fuck empire poker. the other party skins, woo woo.

(Terminated my account, despite the fact i had paid probably close to 1k in rake in a few short months, was a "VIP," attended the VIP dinner/poker seminar in Atlantic City, they just didnt like the fact that I consistantly max-bonused)

Playing a $30+3 NL on Partypoker, got some help in a few spots but overall played great. A few bad moves balanced some great ones. Five spots from cashing (last spot still payed $200), and then this shit happens:

Midde position player raises to 2.5 BBs. I call with A-10 suited, Big stack calls, Big blind calls.

Flop: 10, 5, 3 rainbow. I bet 2 BBs, only the Big stack calls.

Turn: Ace (two clubs), I bet 4 BBs, he calls again.

River: Jack of diamonds. I raise and he doubles the bet to put me all-in.

I'd like to say I was slow-played on a set, or even rivered by JJ, but no the douche had KING QUEEN, albeit of clubs. Motherfucker sat there with less than a draw and called on the flop. I shoulda bet his ass out on the turn, but still this fucking blows....

So you bet 1/5th of the pot with top-pair-top-kicker on the flop. Online players will call you with overs when you bet like that, hell they may even have odds to do so.

If you want to win the pot, bet the pot. If you want to pussyfoot around, live with the consequences.

^^ 5 spots from cashing, or in other words, only two people had been knocked out.... (unless of course, it was like a 3 table sng

the blinds will still be low enough that a 2 bb bet on the flop means nothing

As a reply to a few posts above, you should never gamble with money you can't afford to lose. I have talked with and played with quite a few people with gambling addictions, and that is the plain and simple truth. I don't care if it's $5, if you can't afford to throw it out the window, then don't play.

That being said, if you're thinking about laying down KK in that situation, you're making the wrong move. I am not implying that it's not feasible that the guy has AA, but if he does, he's playing them like a total asshat, and you'll probably make your money back from him soon after anyway. People just don't (or shouldn't) play AA like that.

And on another topic, I have started playing some pot-limit games. I like them a whole lot more than no-limit, because I absolutely detest pushing my stack all-in preflop. It's working out well thus far. I'll keep you all posted as I'm sure you're all on the edge of your seats.

The table was pretty unpredictable.
I usually have a hard time laying down AX suited in a blind...but to a raise and reraise, I figured my ace was too weak and I'd be drawing to the flush.
It hurt to see the flop.
Was it the correct lay down?

absolutely.

single outcomes have no effect on this decision. everything past the utg+1 raise, with a reraise, you must layd down A5 suited.

every time.

btw, what site was this from?

and the line for the initial raise doesnt look like it should....

"JOHNNYBENCH7 - Raises $100 to $300"

shouldnt that say raises $200 to $300?

It's also very possible with a reraise someone is on AA, and they have you destroyed, even after that flop.

I'm not saying always assume someone has AA, but never rule it out.

you dont want to commit like 10% of your stack in a situation where you are likely statistically dominated.

maybe earlier in the tournament, but not now. not the stack %, but more the raise in relation to the blind size. the higher the blinds and raises get, the better your hand needs to be to call said raises.

ladder theory.

i really need to work on my mtt strat

They mean...

Quote :
""JOHNNYBENCH7 - Raises $100 to $300" "

.... That he raises the $100 (big blind) TO $300.

I could probably get a couple folks to play in a tourney as well. Heads up or standard MT... just give me some notice

yeah, the thought of him having aces flashed in my head for a second, then i called. he ended up having them. just wanted to know what anyone else would have laid them down. the hand was about half my money on pokerstars but nowhere near the total amount that i have in ub and fulltilt.

after the hand, the guy asked me why in the world i would call that. i asked him why he would want to go all in preflop and he said b/c he didnt want a call, since aces are only one pair, he doesnt like to see a flop with them. haha, oh well, got most of it back when he went chasing his gutshot against my set.
