Complained to Sony; along with my replaced PS3, they are given me an eye toy, and a PSP!

Talked to them for about an hour yesterday, they had sent me by accident a system that was still under repair.
not a complete, refurbished one.
So I guess they felt pretty bad about it!

Holy shit. Could you keep my PS3 at your place for a few weeks so it dies horribly too?

Hey, if anyone manages to find Ratchet and Clank Future somewhere today, let me know so I can cancel my pre-order and go ahead and pick it up. The Gamestop I pre-ordered at won't have it until tommorow.

Hey, was thinking if any of you dudes are going to import the Dual Shock 3s, I'm down I think and we should do it in bulk to save on the shipping as it will probably be high. Who's in?

I probably will but I'm going to wait until it's available at play-asia.com in hopes that it'll be more reasonably priced than other places, which have it for ~$70.

Sounds like a good idea. I don't want to pay much more (if more at all) than the sixaxis. If its that much I'll wait.

Shrike, is there a date on these in Japan yet, or just sometime in November?

November 11 in Japan.

There was another place I found where you could already pre-order it, but I can't remember what it was. Anyway, like I said, it was $70 there so hopefully Play-Asia will list it for cheaper.

that's just plain redunkulous. its a freaking controller with rumble, for 70 bucks? Fuck that. I'm not paying over the same standard price the sixxaxis is....or rather I'm waiting for it to be that price.

If Sony doesnt do that, they suck in my book.

I had a bad day at work, so I'm prolly just fuming at stuff.

Seems like I'm hearing it's too easy, and the demo did seem easy - is there away to amp the difficulty?

I haven't picked it up yet, but I don't think it does initially. You unlock a harder difficulty after going through it the first time.

Some cool news about GT5. Apparently they are going to let people who buy the game download episodes of Top Gear.

I'm still playing it, but I slowed down after Orange Box came out. They are going to be releasing some patches in the next couple months addressing a laundry list of issues and adding a DLC store for it.

I'm totally up for some organized matches though.

By the way, what did you all think of Everday Shooter? The fact you only have one weapon is pretty lame, but the whole guitar music concept is pretty original and game is very addicting and relatively challenging. The PSN has really been delivering some superb games.

I sold mine, and some idiot bought just the game for 30 bucks on ebay! I kept the bluetooth. I mean jeez, its not like you can't D/L it for that price, right? I'm not complaining.

Haven't tried everyday shooter...kinda saturated with gaming atm. I have super stardust but played it once even and it was fun.

I couldn't agree more. Yeah, there's only one weapon, but I wouldn't say that's a negative. For < $10, it delivers probably about 5-20 hours of playtime before you get bored. I like how every point you score in the game is a point you can use to unlock things.

Wait, you got Eye of Judgement? Is online multiplayer a wasteland or are there actually people to play with?

I picked up Ratchet and Clank on Wednesday and got to the third level. It's a really cool game so far and the graphics are as good as advertised (see demo). I managed to save up enough coin to buy the tornado gun which is cool as fucking hell to use. I had honestly never played a R&C game on the PS2 or otherwise so I didn't know what to expect. The mix of platforming (even though its easy as hell so far) and shooting has been a blast so far. If you're a fan of fun and own a PS3, definitely pick this up.

As a side note, you have all these developers bitching about how difficult PS3 game development is, then you have Insomniac who pumps out two awesome looking AAA titles for the platform in it's first year. Something doesn't add up there, but I do know that the future for PS3 games looks very bright.

I don't think it's that something isn't adding up, it's the fact that it's expensive as shit to develop games for the PS3 and the cost isn't mitigating until they start upping their attachment sales. Right now PS3's attachment software sales is freaking pathetic. You have to justify cost of expending all of those resources to only PS3's platform, and we've seen mutli-platforms titles struggle, almost in all cases the game runs better on the 360, which is bullshit. Insomniac however has alot of capital and are big enough to do this and do it well - and they have been PS's almost flagship developer. They don't usually make a game that's of bad quality...even though I still argue that Resistance was really bland. That's another topic.

I guess my point is, I don't think it's some type of conspiracy with other studios being lazy or anything like that...it's more difficult for developers that develop multi-console titles traditionally to rationalize and exclusive on the ps3 over a multi platform to make money. Mainstay titles (mgs4, FF) notwithstanding. This will continue until sales turn around. The last couple of NPD's really have Sony in the gutter, so that's why you are seeing all of these new SKU's and price drops. They are arguably winning the nextgen DVD war with Bluray, now they need to catch up on the gaming front before it's too late. I think they will.

I do think the future is bright for sony...but right now it's in as shoddy state and developers know it. Let's hope for improvement so we can get more of these titles. I might pick ratchet up this weekend, it's a lot of fun.

[Edited on October 26, 2007 at 9:40 AM. Reason : And don't count out Uncharted's potential to impact! It has serious promise.]

^^ no I didn't get it, I was just wondering if anyone here did and what they thought. A dude I work with picked it up I believe, but he's on vacation so I'll have to talk to him next week and see what he thinks.

^ I totally agree with that. Its obviously going to be tougher for a developer to develop for both systems, and I don't think they give much of a shit about the PS3. Seriously its ok for me as the games that are interesting me the most are the exclusives. However there have been some huge disappointments like Madden. Hopefully this will change over time.

I'm wondering how Assassin's Creed is going to be in this regard. I know it was originally a PS3 exclusive, so I'm not sure if it was developed on a PS3 and ported over to 360 or the other way around. Hopefully either way it will run similar on both systems. Also curious how this game is going to be over all. Got a lot of hype but now its kindof slowed down. Some of the videos look pretty cool. Guess we'll see. Got a super hot producer though.

^^I don't think it's any sort of conspiracy either. The reason for it is definitely a mix of poor sales and the fact that many developers have had their hands on the 360 SDK for a full 2 years longer than the PS3 SDK. I guess my problem is more with lack of honesty than anything else. If you don't have the money/time/talent/motivation, due to poor sales or whatever, to do the job right on the PS3, then come out and say it. Don't feed us bullshit about the PS3's hardware and point the finger at the architecture. There is too much evidence today, in the form of awesome looking exclusives and well done ports, for anyone to believe that anymore.

^I have a lot of doubts about Assassin's Creed that have nothing do with the fact that Ubisoft probably botched the PS3 version. The concept of the game is awesome, but none of the footage I've seen of it has convinced me that they managed to pull it off. Plz to prove me wrong.

I know, I got 26 points the other day as a medic, felt good. I love that game, it's amazing.

I wish I knew what servers tf2 wolfwebbers frequent. I play alot with shacknews.com people on their servers...kinda like goons from SA, although shackers play mean - they are very good.

And yeah, Jade Raymond is hot but I think she's kinda ditzy. When I see her go through the demos of Assasin's Creed she seems nervous and isn't very confident. I'm really not all that excited about that game, I'm sort of like in 'prove me wrong' stage with that title.

^ Agreed with the "prove me wrong stage."

TF2 looks pretty fun, my neighbor's been playing it. I'm more into Warhawk though as its just a refreshing change of pace from all the first person shooters for multiplayer. I'm surprised you guys aren't playing it that much, and especially surprised that you didn't like it Kainen. Game is so much fun.

I have to say that when it comes to multiplayer games, the PS3 has been great for me. You'll laugh, but I have spent a ridiculous amount of time playing Calling All Cars with people off and online, and still get games in there when people are over and stuff. And Warhawk has been a ridiculous amount of fun.

Well, don't get me wrong - I like Warhawk...and if gaming releases were a series of islands on a timeline like it usually is, I would have played it longer. But to be honest with you - this Fall into next into next summer is one of the most amazing period for gaming releases cross platform since 1998 for me.

It's more an issue of the competition pushing Warhawk out of my playing time, and by the time I'm done with all the rest of releases that are better than it, it'll be outdated anyhow. With the limited time I have for job, fiancee (who I am marrying in two weeks. FEAR), and life in general - video games are my number one hobby, but one I've had to reduce my time with. It's a very competetive space.

Like lax said, games like TF2 completely take the multiplayer combat arena and captivate leaving lots in it's wake. I've logged like 20 hours in Orange Box Gaming in the past week or so alone. When I'm not playing that, it's Dracula X Chronicles or Jeanne D'Arc for PSP, Zelda: PH for DS, Halo3 or Puzzle Quest for X360. Still I've neglected finishing Metroid Prime 3, God of War 2, and other AAA titles I owe it to myself to finish. All while I'm still trying to digest all that is in my face as big titles - Zack and Wiki and S.M.Galaxy (wii), Rockband, Mass Effect, COD4, Ace Combat6 (360), Ratchet and Uncharted (PS3), Contra 4 (DS), Silent Hill Origins (PSP).

ARGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH I wish I wasn't such a gaming nerd cause this is crazy.

i agree warhawk is fun, but for all the difference that warhawk has from your everyday FPS games, TF2 takes that, adds another three levels, and blows it away...but I certainly could never play it on a console as I can with warhawk

Maybe they dont have the time to do the job because the architecture is retarded.

What difference does it make how they express it?

A obviously causes B (as you have seen, look at the games out for the ps3... its been a year)

Speaking about who had what SDK for how long , how difficult, and how time consuming coding a game for a ps3 is, is retarded. It would be nice to get a first hand experience which none of us obviously have (because we're all retarded).

With everything for the PS2 not made by Square Enix looking like shit?

Seriously though, I'd imagine the PS2 itself is part of the frustration that PS3 developers have. You have these multi-platform companies who spent a bunch of time and money trying to develop for the PS2 and finally start to figure it out and then BAM

Whole new architecture to the point where the only way to even get anything in the old architecture to run on the PS3 is to put pieces of the PS2 inside it. That's going to piss anyone off, since now 7 years of R&D is worthless.

You would think that after getting constantly harped on about the PS2 being a bitch to develop on, they wouldn't have made the exact same mistake again.

I think I'm pretty much done responding to anyone who doesn't actually own or at least has some extensive first hand experience using a PS3. You're all such obvious trolls, it's gotten pathetic. The PS2 was a mistake now? Do you have any idea how idiotic that sounds? I think Sony would be more than happy to repeat the "mistake" that sold 120 million consoles.

Making a console that's hard to develop for is a mistake, and it's one they made with the PS2, regardless of how popular the PS2 wound up becoming in spite of that fact. Considering how much bitching there was about it, you would think Sony would have the common sense not to make another console that was hard to develop for that, due to it's release date, was already playing catch-up.

But if you'd like to somehow take a decent point and dismiss it as trolling simply because the words "mistake" and "PS2" fall in the same sentence, by all means.
