so that store in union square ended up not being so great. did manage to get sparklers (which I had nearly forgotten to pick up) and the I Do rhinestone thingies for my shoes, so it wasn't a total bust.

^^^so super cool!
^^maybe that's how I can get a blue in! I'm petrified that any blue will fade to Carolina colors

Perhaps it's my constant insecurity, but I'm so super worried that, even though I properly reserved the ceremony and reception location, something will fall through and cause a lot of stress and extra $$. Is this a stupid feeling?
Btw, I want to thank you guys for putting up with my constant questions!! You're my #1 vendor advice site.

i don't think its a stupid feeling!
someone in this thread used the mantra that as long as the venue isn't burning down-itll be ok.
thats what im going by.

if something goes wrong, ignore it.
chances are if anyone even notices they'll forget about it.

if something goes terribly wrong laugh it off and make an announcement.
ie:
"Ladies and Gents, unfortunately the cake fell on the floor tonight!!! but we have gone to Harris Teeter and bought X pints of ice cream for everyone to enjoy, so come and watch the bride and groom take the first scoops and enjoy some rocky road!"
then you forever be known as the wedding that had ice cream for desert.

thats my thinking at least

That would be fantastic. Ok, just nervous jitters! Going to pick up a veil soon. I think I'm going to get a cathedral length very plain one. I'm short so I'm not quite sure how that length will work, but it's so pretty in pictures!

Eric has made it very, very, veryyyy clear that he wants a cake like this for his groom's cake. I think I'm going to surprise him and have a cute Mr. and Mrs. Wuf made to set near the cake (not on top though because I'm pretty sure it wouldn't go very well with flowers or fruit)

In other news, I found a picture in a magazine the other day that had an awesome cake... it was similar to this but didn't have the black bands I don't think:

and the anemones were sugar flowers...

also found this cake, which I know others would find tacky but for some reason I love it because it pulls from every single fruit I"m getting inspiration from and it has the exact colors I'm using (except for the green, mine is a little brighter)

but in that magazine I also saw a plan white tiered cake with a few lemons, tangerines, and granny smith apples sitting on and around it... I love the simplicity, so I might take that into consideration

I've got like 3 wedding albums on fb
But it's there......it's titled "as long as the reception hall or chapel isn't on fire..."

I love both cakes

The 'fruit' cake is very interesting!

A croquembouche is pretty weird, but I think i'm liking it!

I think maybe I was worried about it being tacky cause of the bows...

I might consider that cake if the gauze ribbon is taken off

[Edited on August 22, 2010 at 2:27 AM. Reason : and just make it plain fondant (leave the colors)]

you must be

i've met people who didn't think it was "bad," but not a single person that thought fondant was "good" compared to even the cheapest icing

i want my cake to taste GOOD, not "not bad"

I agree. And fondant is too "neat" looking for us. Buttercream tastes better, and has a more random/accidental quality that I like.

Most fondant cakes have a layer of buttercream under it bc it's notoriously not good

And you can make buttercream look neat...just don't have an outdoor reception if it's hot

this hasn't been my experience

or, at least, after peeling off the fondant, it was mostly cake and very little icing

When it is done, bc most =/= all, it's not a lot but just a thin layer to give it some flavor.

I love fondant.. but I have a huge sweet tooth, so maybe that's why.. tastes like candy

but every fondant cake I've seen (although I'll admit, hasn't been a lot, just a few) had what LK was talking about

plus, outdoor May wedding... pretty sure fondant is the way to go

^, ^^ that's so exciting! Do you feel stressed out right now or do you feel like you have all your ducks in a row?

That wasn't a ribbon on the croquembouche, it's spun sugar! But I can't find a bakery that will do it, so I think we'll stick with cheesecake/pies.

my fiancée is still stressing over some small things, but i, for one, feel good

really, the most stressful thing is that we are 4 "yeses" away from hitting max indoor seating capacity for the place where the reception will be and we've still yet to hear back (yay or nay) from ~30 people

out of those 30, 4 are strong "maybes"...i'm fairly confident that the others are simply people who won't be coming (since we've sent emails and called and still not heard back)

i'm also expecting (hoping!) that 8-10 people won't even show up for the reception (which is a reasonable assumption, i've been told), but it's still going to be a full room

So I think we're going to try to do donations to local charities as our favors. We'll have a list of 3 that our guests can choose from and we'll donate maybe like ~$3.00 per person for that charity.
"

I saw a wedding where they had a really cool way of doing this.

At each table people had 4 "chips" (I think they were stones rather than actual poker chips). Each chip was worth $1. Then they had 3 tins at the bar with a hole big enough for the stones and a sign talking about each charity. Guests could drop their chips into the tins for the charities they wanted their money to go to.

Here's another person that did a similar idea:

^I LOVE that idea! Especially since my fiance and I are very into poker, I think using poker chips would be pretty cool. Maybe at each seat we can put a few chips and a poker card that quickly discusses what how they can use the chips.

Thanks for the link!!

So now photographer and venue are out of the way and I feel really great about both!

I would also like to mention.... we got those Emeril pots/pans (engagement gift) replaced. Cauphalon (sp?) is the jammmm

I am definitely on edge- but mostly because I am spending all tomorrow driving to NC, and have yet to finish much of my to-do list. I'm trying to use elkaybie's mantra, and remind myself that as long as Earl doesn't hit SC next week(end), everything will be fine. My fiance has been chill as hell all week though. Maybe it's a guy/girl thing?

SHAMELESS PLUG

My husband and I just started our own catering company.

He's worked in restaurants/catering for over 15 years.

He's been the executive chef at St. Michaels Catholic Church in Cary for the past 6 years.

Here is our website:

http://www.spicecubedcatering.com

We have an on-premise reception hall and we can do off-premise as well. You don't have to get married in the St Michaels cathedral to use our catering/reception hall.

A big difference between our catering company and many other caterers is that our on-premise catering includes staff, disposables, linens, tables, chairs and centerpieces. Off-premise price includes disposables, food and beverage linens and platters.

the BBQ rocks!

When we got married in Vegas, we had a reception at home for people that couldn't come to Vegas. Our sous chef did our at-home reception as her gift to us. She did whole pig BBQ. It was so good.
