Cahill scores from the far post on a corner.

Excellent counter attack play by the US. Schwartzer pushes Dempsey's effort wide, FIndley and Donovan were a little too late to tap the ball home.

Perfect cross by Cherundolo, Buddle just has to tap it home. Goal.

USA 2 - 1 Australia

I like Martin Tyler, but Harkes is like that guy waiting to interject. I hope Harkes just calls the game by the time the Cup comes around and leaves out his snobbish shit.

"You want to play with the horns? You mess with the bull."
-John Harkes

Seriously? Can we replace these '94 clowns? We get it, you guys played in a World Cup. It doesn't give you a free pass.

Can somebody find out where Andy Gray is for god's sake?

Can we get a damn replay????

Finally. There was no offsides. Should have been a goal. Findley was not interfering with play.

Defense continues to be garbage. Fair result would probably be 3-3 to be honest today.

Demerit is having a LOL-worthy game and the Socceroos really need to stop trying to disable Dempsey...

Findley has been wretched too. Good lord

Not too bad of a game really, Findley was just really unlucky not to get at least one today, Buddle was good, and so was Dempsey. Heck yeah Gomez just got a goal too

Defending hasn't been great but most of the problems have been set pieces which we really should do better on

The last ten minutes or so the backline played a lot better while under pressure. Of course it probably didn't help them in the second half that every ball played in the box Hahnemann was running off his line like a moron.

All Findley does is run fast, correct? Because wow, he had some good chances to both score and set up. Oh well, can't really get too angry about a 3-1 win against a semi-quality World Cup side...

All Findley does for me is make me realize how much we're missing with the loss of Davies. He's not absolutely terrible, but he doesn't have that last bit that you need.

A clinical finisher can change the game.

That last shot of Jozy didn't exactly inspire me with confidence --- looked totally depressed. Wouldn't surprise me to see Buddle and Findley/Gomez up front in a week at this point. Hope I'm wrong.

John Harkes. LOL. Only caught the last 10 minutes or so but damn he was terrible. Martin Tyler was even bringing himself down by the end of the game to try to get Harkes involved and not sound like a moron at the same time.

Awkward.

That was a killer ball Donovan played at the end of the game to set up Gomes though. Not the easiest finish but it's good to see him put it away nonetheless.

Donovan has the look as well. And Buddle is gonna have a couple good games it looks like until he realizes he's playing in the World Cup and breaks down.

^ESPN thinks that Americans need someone to "relate" to. They don't understand that:

A) Harkes and, more so, Lalas are babbling idiots who have no business in broadcasting.

B) We speak English. It's fine if our announcers come from Britain. Someone Tyler is used to working with, like Gray, would be best. These are professionals. This is what they do.

meh whatever

Tyler's good but he can't even pronounce alot of our players' names. I'm not defending Harkes but I like having somebody who does usmnt games that actually knew who Buddle and Gomez were before two weeks ago. I don't know of a better person at the moment who fits that role as a color guy.

And Im actually starting to like Lalas. He's entertaining if you keep his remarks brief

Too bad Findley can't finish. He has pretty good speed and some dribbling skills. After today Bradley really should look at putting Buddle in the starting line up as a second forward.

man i've been liking lalas for a while, he's funny and enthusiastic about our team. he exaggerates a lot but he's not boring and he's not harkes. sometimes he acts like a dick but he just wants success for the us team more than anyone. i wish they'd bring back erik wynalda to call our games

I don't have a problem with any of the American announcers. For some reason Americans think that if they don't speak British, or Spanish then they aren't good. It's ok to say field and soccer and sound American.

Harkes just isn't that good, period.

If they can find a competent foreigner to do color commentary that knows the US players and their backgrounds, I'm all for it.

I don't think Harkes is usually that bad. It just seemed like he was trying to step his game up because Tyler was right next to him and he ended up failing HARD. He just seemed like he was trying to hold his own against Tyler and that's really not his strong suit. He's good at knowing what's going in the game and getting the point across simply. Tyler just has a wonderful way with words that few can match. I actually think they could do well together if Harkes would chill the fuck out and play to his strong points.

Lalas is funny because he's basically like, "Fuck all other countries."

I like Wynalda because he justs calls the game exactly how it is. If there's a terrible play he'll call it out. If there's a boring game though he'd probably straight up call it boring and that's probably something ESPN doesn't want.

It's called regional dialect and foreign accents. Having a British accent and saying, "Pitch, kit, football, etc" doesn't make someone a better commentator. Tyler is better though.

All Harkes does is bitch and complain. It's like watching a game with that annoying guy who just fucking bitches the whole time.

That is not color.

The silence today was due to Harkes not knowing the flow of commentary. He doesn't understand what he's there for. Even when Tyler was getting him involved he just choked.

It doesn't make them worse either. It's a non issue either way.

How about has at least a clue about both teams? I hate one way commentary. One of the reasons I hate listening to Harkes is he's a complete homer (even though mostly negative) and knows absolutely nothing about the opposing teams (I really believe the only player he knows outside of our country is Messi - if you can remember any prior games he's called), nor does he mention anything about what they're doing on the field. When the opposing side does something well he usually talks about why the US ended up on the negative side of the play. His commentary mirrors our posting patterns in this thread - one sided. He has an obligation to call both sides of the game. It almost seems like he doesn't do any research on opposing teams and ESPN just throws him into the fray.

Let's not forget that B4C is completely devoid of social skills, making his opinion on the matter of vocal rhythm and chemistry between commentators of little value.

No more trying to introduce soccer to silly Americans who don't know the game and are stopping by for the spectacle. ESPN plans to serve up football for aficionados. All four ESPN play-by-play voices - Martin Tyler, Ian Darke, Adrian Healey and Derek Rae -- are imports from the other side of the pond. Tyler is to soccer as Al Michaels is to the NFL."

Galaxy Cinema is showing all of the 2:30 games during the group stage (except for South Africa vs. Mexico).

bradley says gooch and jozy are fit and ready to go 90 minutes. now the questions are:

- spector or cherundolo at right back
- who pairs with jozy at forward
- who pairs with little bradley in midfield

personally, i like cherundolo, buddle, and torres, respectively

1. Cherundolo definitely.
2. Findley - hoping his speed will open up their defense a bit for Donovan/Dempsey
3. For this game, I'd like to see Edu... but I'm expecting Clark.

regardless of what they've been saying, I still have my doubts on if Gooch will start or not... we'll see
