DURHAM, N.C. — Pittsboro Mayor Randy Voller is the new chairman of the North Carolina Democratic Party, barely turning back a last-minute push by former U.S. Rep. Bob Etheridge.
Members of the State Executive Committee meeting Saturday in Durham elected Voller over Etheridge by a vote of 309-298.
Voller, the grassroots choice, had been publicly running for two months and appeared to be the only candidate when former state Sen. Eric Mansfield dropped out last week." |

Also, can anyone explain the Judeo-Christian tradition as it relates to environmental science?
Is he talking about world-wide floods and seas parting? Because, yeah, I guess modern science does take issues with stuff like that.

Quote : | "Domestic violence bill vote critical test of more inclusive GOP
Washington (CNN) -- The Republican Party's message makeover may soon face a critical test as it considers the Violence Against Women Act, legislation that draws into sharp contrast the differences between the two parties on women's issues.
The Senate passed the measure on Tuesday, 78-22, and sent it to the House of Representatives, where proponents expect a fight that would test Republican efforts to embrace inclusiveness.
The Senate bill includes services, such as legal aid and shelter stays to domestic violence victims without regard to their immigration status or sexual orientation.
"Today, the Senate passed a strong bipartisan bill to reauthorize and strengthen the Violence Against Women Act. This important step shows what we can do when we come together across party lines to take up a just cause," President Barack Obama said in a statement.
"The bill passed by the Senate will help reduce homicides that occur from domestic violence, improve the criminal justice response to rape and sexual assault, address the high rates of dating violence experienced by young women, and provide justice to the most vulnerable among us," he said.
Obama signaled that the House should move quickly.
With the Senate passage, the pending House debate also opens the door to the types of thorny battles that stymied the bill last year and may have helped cost Republicans support among many women voters in the presidential race." |

There's a faulty argument. Sure, you can fool most people into thinking that anyone opposing a law relating to domestic violence is, in fact, supportive of domestic violence. This is almost always how these things are framed. You're against ACA? You're against people having health care. You're against the PATRIOT act? You're against defending the country. You're against Dodd-Frank? You want banking and financial interests to run free with no absolutely no regard for established law or ethical standards.
You should really hold yourself to a higher standard. This is political sleight of hand. I view anyone that falls for this bullshit the same way I view people that watch WWE and think it's real. It's absolutely foolish, but I point out the obvious and it's like I'm speaking a different language.
Like I said in another thread, when all you've got is a hammer, every problem is a nail. When you start from the premise that the federal government is responsible for solving every problem that society faces, it's an extreme position to say that some problems should be dealt with in some other way. I totally understand that when you bury yourself in advocacy, you really begin to believe that this is the one true way to a better society, but you need to understand that it's possible to be 100% opposed to these broad federal measures without being a bigot/racist/misogynist/whatever.

In my studies of the 1% I have found making more money to be the ONLY thing that they find to be personally fulfilling. You can never have enough money. Reminds me of a that study that was done where people across various wealth strata were asked "How much more savings would you need to feel wealthy?" Across all percentiles the answer was roughly double what they currently possessed. There is no magic point where you make it and you decide you dont need any more money.

When I said a "lot of money", I meant the amount of money the Turner family has. Teddy Turner's father is worth 2 billion. The link you provided cites a study examining millionaires earning 3 million on average, and most of them are self-made.2/24/2013 3:03:30 PM |

This is the exact opposite of how rich people operate. In their world, it is more important to secure a financial future and to make a lot of money than it is to have a fulfilling purpose in the world.
Doing stuff that is fun and personally fulfilling is something that culturally belongs to the left.

You can laugh at that all you want, but the #1 goal of most conservative parents is for their kids to make money and thus they push them towards these careers.
Continue to live in denial.
BTW, I am not hating on it or judging, but conservatives in this country are much more likely to stick to a plan of "how can I make money" rather than "Let's do something that we enjoy".
Really, to deny that fact is either a sign of delusion or trollusion.

It's not about the money, it's about what the money buys. If you make a decent living, you don't have to stress about bills, rent, a car, or food. You can live a better life. There isn't anything "fulfilling" about never knowing where your next paycheck is coming from. If you have to work at a minimum wage job 60 hours a week to barely scrape by, you don't have the time or money to do the things that make life great. Good (not "conservative") parents give their children the tools and the knowledge to be independent and successful.
You should really just stop posting this kind of inane shit, though.2/25/2013 11:16:46 AM |
