Barnes wife has a benign (non malignant / non terminal) brain tumor. She has been getting treated at Duke for awhile now...not sure how often, but I believe it's at least once a month. Duke has the best treatment in the country for this type of cancer

As I understand it, it will require indefinite treatment...not positive there, though. At the very least, it will be for a loooong time.

When they aren't whackin' it to the idea of Barnes, they're discussing the latest news on why Obama is a Kenyan Muslim Communist.

There are plenty more great coaches that have risen from the mid-majors I can think of off the top of my head, but it's never a slam dunk. I mean, just among coaches I know people here love, Lorenzo Romar came from Saint Louis and Pepperdine, Matt Painter from SIU, Steve Alford was at SW Missouri or something like that. There are plenty more.

I'm not even saying Smart is my top mid-major choice (but calling the CAA a crappy conference? come on, they're a 3 bid league), I'd put Mooney at Richmond ahead of him but you guys hate his offense (though they did lead the A10 in scoring D).

the metric is salary and expectations. salary has gone up and expectations have gone down. this is a very simple concept.

then you just threw up some dumb shit about talent. lowe's first year started w/ one returning starter, so we'll go ahead and call that a wash. this isn't a football roster he has to fill; the state of the current team is irrelevant to how good of a job it is.

Yeah, if you look at Doyel's twitter, he's come around to NC State. It said it was mainly because he hates school's staff, not the school themselves. With Fowler, Lowe, Amato all gone he's gaining respect.

I sincerely doubt any coach is going to consider only these two factors alone.

And I flat out don't buy the lowered expectations argument. You don't offer more money to someone if you're not expecting to see improved results. Our next coach isn't going to keep his job if he "only does better than Sid." He's gonna have to make the tournament, and eventually show signs of going balls-deep in the tournament. Only now he'll be inheriting a team that is 5 years removed from any consistent conference and tournament success. And a new coach will know exactly what he's walking in to as far as fan expectations, which haven't really withered in the past 5 years (And why would they? They've managed to stay strong for the past 20+ years or so).

So considering the recent decline of the program, I have a hard time seeing how you can think that the allure of the job is markedly better than it was 5 years ago. That is, unless, you're only considering Salary + Expectations.

The talent is better than Sid inherited, particularly if the new coach is running a conventional offense. The "culture of winning" and arguably discipline aren't there, but in some ways more rebuilding/reloading was needed 5 years ago.
