Quote :
"The following is an excerpt from the July 1943 issue of Transportation Magazine. This was quite serious at its time and written for male supervisors of women in the work force during World War II - a mere 58 years ago! Obviously, the intent was not to be "funny," but by today's standards, this is hilarious!

For those of you with efficiency issues, pay attention to #8.

There is no longer any question whether transit companies should hire women for jobs formerly held by men. The draft and manpower shortage has settled that point. The important things now are to select the most efficient women available and how to use them to the best advantage.

Here are eleven helpful tips on the subject:

1. Pick young married women. They usually have more of a sense of responsibility than their unmarried sisters. They are less likely to be flirtatious. They need the work, or they would not be doing it. They still have the pep and interest to work hard and to deal with the public efficiently.

2. When you have to use older women, try to get ones who have worked outside the home at some time in their lives. Older women who have never contacted the public have a hard time adapting themselves and are inclined to be cantankerous and fussy. It is always well to impress upon older women, the importance of friendliness and courtesy.

3. General experience indicates that "husky" girls - those who are just a little on the heavy side - are more even-tempered and efficient than their underweight sisters.

4. Retain a physician to give each woman you hire a special physical examination - one covering female conditions. This step not only protects the property against the possibilities of lawsuit, but also reveals whether the employee-to-be has any female weaknesses that would make her mentally or physically unfit for the job.

5. Stress, at the outset, the importance of time; the fact that a minute or two lost here and there makes serious inroads on schedules. Until this point is gotten across, service is likely to be slowed up.

6. Give the female employee a definite daylong schedule of duties so that they will keep busy without bothering the management for instructions every few minutes. Numerous properties say that women make excellent workers when they have their jobs cut out for them, but that they lack initiative in finding work themselves.

7. Whenever possible, let the inside employee change from one job to another at some time during the day. Women are inclined to be less nervous and happier with change.

8. Give every girl an adequate number of rest periods during the day. You have to make some allowances for feminine psychology. A girl has more confidence and is more efficient if she can keep her hair tidied, apply fresh lipstick and wash her hands several times a day.

9. Be tactful when issuing instructions or in making criticisms. Women are often sensitive; they cannot shrug off harsh words the way men do. Never ridicule a woman - it breaks her spirit and cuts off her efficiency.

10. Be reasonably considerate about using strong language around women. Even though a girl's husband or father may swear vociferously, she will grow to dislike a place of business where she hears too much of this.

11. Get enough size variety in operator's uniforms so that each girl can have a proper fit. This point cannot be stressed too much in keeping women happy."

Can somebody please help me find a shirt like the red one here, or at least give me some idea where to look for one?

"red wrap shirt" and various similar terms aren't coming up with anything helpful.

IDK about finding one with the ruffly sleeves, but if you can find a normal length red wrap shirt, you could cut it to the correct length. And cut off the sleeves if they have them.

what about this one:
http://www.shoebuy.com/royal-robbins-61162-cool-mesh-wrap-top/150302/347854?cm_mmc=frooglelist-_-none-_-none-_-none

eek but it's sorta pricey....

I was thinking that. Since I posted that, I found

which might work without being cut or anything.

[Edited on October 15, 2007 at 1:34 PM. Reason : I don't like the front-crossing straps, but I suppose those can be done away with]

I just read about these cool candles that you can use as lotion/massage oil when they are melted. I might have to try one. They sound cool.

http://www.skinnydipcandle.com/?gclid=CNLjnMG_lo8CFQp7PAod-hPegQ

I read about them at work at B Roman spa, but didn't see them on their web site, so this is just what I came up with when I Googled it.

^yes they will be on sale and I think they are part of the take an additional 25% off with it, don't hold it to me though the print out is on my desk but I can look tomorrow.

i have no idea but a lot of stuff is 20% off or some brands are an extra 25% off sale price

what you can do is on nov 4th you go in and basically pick what you want and the sales associate will bag it up and that saturday will put everything in the register and you can pick it up that saturday. It's just to make sure you get the size that you want.

I'm going to NYC for the first time from Dec 25-31. What do I take/wear? I'm going to see Jersey Boys and the Drowsy Chaperone at night, and Wicked as a matinée, and we'll be doing touristy stuff during the day. I'm most concerned about shoes to wear walking all over the place and how to transform an outfit I wore basically all day into something adorable for dinner. Any ideas?

Am I the only female that thinks 95% of the items posted in this thread are hideous and not worth buying?
Just take this page for example...
There is no way I'd pay for anything like that teal handbag, much less splurge on it! It's hideous and looks like JCPenny's cheap on top of that.
And as far as the red wrap shirt... at least the one on the elf was kinda cute. Most of the others look like something a slut would wear (save the first... that looks like a pregnant woman's attire).
No offense to those who find these things desirable... I have just wondered about this essentially since this thread began.

^i'm pretty sure the red wrap shirt was for a halloween costume

but everyone's style taste is different...but i'd say my percentage is lower than yours on what i find undesirable...mayhaps 63%? mayhaps even less? i dunno

Anyone with experience about Tadashi's sizes? True to size? I've looked at the official chart but am still kind of leery about buying without having tried one on.

^ I do - Tadashi runs almost exactly true to size, but if you're very tall, the dress might be a little short on you. I'm 5'8'' and I have to wear flats with their floorlength dresses.
