You're right, man. It was never a widely regarded fact that the Playstation 2 was a hard console to develop for. The PS2 was absolutely flawless in every regard, right down to it's optical drive.

It amazes me how making the point "if you make something that's hard to develop for that developers bitch about once, you probably shouldn't do it again when you're already a year late to the dance" has you all up in arms. I thought it was common sense.

This isn't meant as a troll, it isn't meant as a "HURF FUCK YOU SONY!!!1" it was originally supposed to be a salient point as why it is you're getting shitty ports, but anytime the words "Playstation" and "mistake" are anywhere near each other, you people jump out in full force to defend it. So lets try this, how about you go re-read my initial post on this, figure out I'm not trolling your precious console, rub a couple of brain cells together and think about it what I said for a second. Who fucking cares how hard it is to code for? I can only think of a couple of multi-platform games that I would even want. The first party titles are awesome, the developers of these have stressed that its really not that difficult for them (yes realize they are only developing for PS3) so what difference does it make?

So far there have been some kick-ass first party titles that I enjoy the hell out of and look damn good. I could give a damn about what Ubisoft or EA release on both platforms. Most of those games are shitty anyway and you can tell they are just thrown together as quick as possible. Looks how shitty the EA Sports games have been on both platforms for years.

and just to comment to this ridiculous banter, ease of development does not make a platform successful. Its all about the games, as well as what the platform can do. Both boxes are awesome and have many advantages/disadvantages over the other. All comes down to personal taste. They will probably both be successful, and one will make more money than the other. The SNES produced a whole lot more than Genesis, so does that make Genesis a failure? Does it make it not worthy of ever being released?

^ Oh, and seriously post one quote from any of us where we have been "elitest" and said that our console of choice is better than the others.

Speaking of multi-platform games, Assassin's Creed just went gold and is slated to release November 13. Also, after the PS3 version being more or less MIA during public previews of the game, some recent screenshots and videos have shown it looking more or less equal to the other versions. I still have lingering fears this game might be shit, the combination of no demo ever + no reviews till release usually doesn't bode well for a game like this. Hopefully a PC "demo" gets "released" to Newgroups/torrents soon so we can all try it

Yeah, we really need that one in HD, best trailer yet. Everyone with a PS3 needs to get on the hype train for this one. There is going to be a demo November 8th as well, and the release date was pushed up one day to November 19.





Also, MGS4 has been delayed to the Q2 2008, which is honestly a good thing. They already missed this years holiday season so there is no need to rush it out. Delay it until Christmas 2008 if they have too.

Uncharted demo to arrive on Nov. 8! Awesome. That's next Thursday. We continue not to see a demo for Assassin's Creed likely because it might not be as good as advertised. It's like a production house not sending their movie for early review to film critics.

I'm banking on Uncharted, Mass Effect, and Super Mario Galaxy to be the perfect trifecta of purchases for me, one on each console for maximum awesomeness.

Warhawk Patch is up. Servers are down until noon for the update. I'm gonna get some games going tonight for sure. Got a blue tooth headset yesterday as well so I'm interested to see how that works out for online play.

Oh it works great, the problem is, you'll be lucky to find even 2 or 3 other people on each server who talk regularly. You can downright dominate a map with even handful of people who are communicating properly, but it's so rare to even find that. I'll try to jump on tonight and find you for some games.

I picked up a Playstation Eye (the fancy new camera) yesterday. The camera part is *decent*, it's got some nice features like auto-focus, blah blah. The real interesting part, though, is the mic array that's included. It does an excellent job of filtering background noise. It's so good, in fact, that I am using it instead of my bluetooth headset. Convergence FTW!!!


hopefully more people will pick these up and mic use will be more common. I've got a bluetooth headset for the PS3, but I hardly ever use it simply b/c i'm too lazy to hunt it down.

But seriously, Syphon Filter was always a "poor man's" Metal Gear Solid, developed and published by Sony. If they do make one, it'll be well after MGS4 and MGO have had their run. The last 2 in the series are on the PSP I think. Sony's internal studios have been focusing on new IPs for the PS3 (Uncharted, Little Big Planet, Resistance, Eye of Judgement, etc....) rather than rehashes and sequels.

For me, MGS + Syphon Filter have next to nothing in common, at least gameplay-wise. I loved the first few entries in the Syphon Filter series, haven't really checked anything since then.

Picked up Ratchet + Clank the other day, but I think I'm gonna wait til I receive my imported Dual Shock 3 (~11/21) so I can FEEL TEH POWER.

I've got plenty to keep me busy til then... I'm in full Fifa mode right now + I bought Everday Shooter the other day and Why didn't anyone tell me that game was this good??!?

heh... I d/led Syphon Filter 1 off PSN a while back... man... how to say this... the graphics made my eyes bleed (and not in a good way). Still, the game is fun as hell but it's funny to think that I once thought those graphics were realistic.

also funny: You have to control Logan with the d-pad, since the Dual Shock wasn't out yet at the time (or wasn't standard at least). awwwkward

I just think it's messed up that here we are, 1 year later, and we still don't have functionality that was advertised before the system even launched. It shouldn't be this difficult. And I'm REALLY afraid that they are simply going to make certain features *available* to devs (such as custom soundtracks, in game messaging, bla bla) and not make them *standard*. That would be a huge mistake, IMHO. EA, given the option, is not going to give you the option to opt out of their shitty-but-megabucks-generating soundtracks. Please Sony, make this the user's choice if and when you roll it out.

Yeah, the firmware 2.0 list that leaked last week was pretty pathetic at best. Didn't have custom soundtracks or in-game XMB. The only thing even remotely cool was wake-on-LAN via a PSP and custom XMB themes. It seems like the top 2 requested features are custom soundtracks and the ability to message/invite people on your friends list from inside a game. IMO, they shouldn't call it 2.0 until it has those features.

It's fantastic, but was too easy and doesn't have much replay value.....in that I was pretty dissapointed. Turned what I thought would be an excllent game into a 'good' game.

I don't really like PS3, but...

I just saw a new PS3 commercial that had an outstandingly awesome song on it. The commercial itself showed guns, tentacles, accessories, ect sprouting from the sides of the PS3 in a cool-looking way, and switched between that and clips of various games (Warhawk, Spidey 3, and Heavenly Sword being the ones I remeber)... Don't remember a thing about the song.

Anyone also seen the commercial that could tell me who the artist is and/or what the song is? I feel like I should know, but I don't.

Yeah, same list that we saw over 2 weeks ago. The stuff that's being added is all pretty cool, but there really needed to be some more significant features added for the 2.0 update. Granted, the biggest firmware update yet was 1.8, so we probably won't have to wait until 3.0 for some more major upgrades.

I don't give a shit about what they added. Its beyond me that they spent resources to develop a subscription feed device (a la Google) instead of custom audio and in game XMB. This thing has been out a year and we should have both of those options.

Until we have in game XMB support, the community will be nothing. Maybe they are waiting for Home to come out to have all this integrated, I don't know, but I think its inexcusable at this point. And seriously, not able to listen to custom soundtracks or flat out music saved on the HD during gaming is silly.

I really can't believe they would push this update out w/o those features, after making us all wait for so long....

They are getting murdered in the comments on the Official PS Blog, so much that the PS Network guy commented on there to try and calm them down. It is well deserved, if you ask me.

You're right, the fact that their community is shit right now can be traced directly back to the fact that you can't message people in game. Currently, you have sit there idling on the friends list to be able to interact with anyone in any way. Completely ridiculous. Now that the Eye is out, I should be able to video-pop into the corner of someone's screen and fuck up someone's game to invite them to play another w/me.

If they had done their work and actually completed this thing, they could've at least evened the playing field going into Christmas. No longer would someone looking for "the online console" go straight to 360, they would actually ahve to choose. As it stands.... no.
