Uh not its not. Taweret has the body of a hippo. Sobek has the body of a man. Did you even look at the link I posted? 5/21/2009 10:47:50 AM |

damn they could have at least made the statue correctly then. Taweret looks nothing like the statue. 5/21/2009 10:55:46 AM |

yeah, I must agree, the statue looks much more like Sobek than Taweret
not that it matters since the mystery is uncovered 5/21/2009 11:00:38 AM |

^^They've never shown the front of the statue though. So droopy tittays and pot belly are thus unconfirmed, but definitely a hippo snout.
Also the headdress, or hat, matches Taweret's. Sobek has a mad giant hat, son.

a hippo snout? I definitely saw a long snout like a croc rather than a short stubby snout like a hippo. But youre right never did see the front. Still a potbelly would be obvious even from the side.
http://lostpedia.wikia.com/wiki/Giant_statue The statue definitely has a croc mouth
http://lostpedia.wikia.com/wiki/File:BramHoldingStatue.png this pic shows the statue with no hippo characteristics at all.
Not that it matters since they already confirmed it was Taweret. But dammnit why couldnt they make the statue correct!

Quote : | " * The Monster is a manifestation of the Egyptian god [Apep], the deification of darkness and evil, often depicted as a snake with a head of flint. Apep's consort is the Egyptian goddess of fertility, Taweret, the hypothesized deity depicted by The Statue. Apep was considered "The Eater-Up of Souls", and the dead were buried with protection spells against him. If The Monster is Apep, this may explain why a principle law of the truce between DHARMA and The Hostiles was to bury the dead. " |
From lostpedia. Hopefully thats not true, i don't think i'd like if the show copied any mythology exactly.
and lol
haha wtf

Yeah, body shape and headress aside, hippos don't have teeth like that. 5/21/2009 1:22:12 PM |

that's the only thing that doesn't make sense, the teeth. why would abc confirm taweret then? 5/21/2009 1:23:55 PM |

just do a google image search of Taweret, you'll find tons of pictures that have sharp teeth like what we can see of the statue 5/21/2009 1:39:41 PM |

i mean the fertility thing makes an decent amount of sense.
Theres a theory that bernard died in the flaming arrow attack and is being controlled by the monster, and when he asks juliet to stop for tea he's trying to convince her to change her mind about helping her, as she's the only one at the incident who was not touched by jacob.

^that's pretty doggone thin. So Rose wouldn't have noticed Bernard absent for large chunks of time? Not to mention Vincent would know something was up . I know it's not your theory, i'm just chippin' in.
I think it's been discussed, but the statue being Taweret also support the theory that the on-island birthing problems started when the statue was destroyed. 5/21/2009 2:15:31 PM |

Is there any evidence he can't be more than one person/one place at a time? 5/21/2009 2:33:29 PM |

^^ or that the statue was destroyed because of birthing problems (a sign of disrespect or retaliation?)

Well, we've never seen more than one manifestation at one time, nor have we ever seen the smoke monster and a vision/manifestation simultaneously (at least not that I can recall). This was further evidenced by Locke2 going to get a rope while Ben was visited by smokey in the temple. Smokey shows up then goes away, then Alex shows up, then goes away, then Locke2 shows back up.

The head seems to be correct for Tawaret, however Tawaret does not have the body of a man in a loin cloth. My guess is they chose to make the statue with the man body because it looks better than a fat hippo with saggy titties (and will pass the censors). 5/21/2009 3:06:42 PM |

Maybe not yet. I was talking about none of the charaters mentioning if the Daniel/Jack plan works, they never crash on the island, so they never leave and come back, and then they never implement the Daniel/Jack plan to prevent them from crashing on the island. 5/24/2009 5:17:11 AM |
