mine will stay sort of off if I tell it to when it's charging off the wall and from my computer. it'll come up with a screen showing a %charged and have a little battery display thing, but otherwise it's off. 6/15/2010 12:01:01 AM |

i guess it could have a toll on the long term screen health, but I'd imagine that thing was made so that it'd still take a few years before it happened and by then you'd be in the market for another phone (if not 2 more phones) 6/15/2010 12:33:27 AM |

There's an option in Settings, Applications, Development to keep the screen on when charging. And at least for the droid, you can hold the power button and hit power off while it's plugged in and it'll turn the phone off. 6/15/2010 11:09:15 AM |

On the droid, when charging: 1) Press the power button once, the screen turns off, phone stays on 2) Press & hold the power button, the options come up to reboot, airplane mode, or power off the phone. 3) In a dock situation there's an icon in the upper right that allows you to dim the screen, again, just a simple press of the power button turns the screen off. 6/15/2010 12:20:10 PM |

so has anyone been able to get anything resembling a full day of use out of a fully charged Evo 4G?
I took mine off the charger at 8:15am, and it was already down nearly 20% by 10am, and that's with the 4G, WiFi, Bluetooth and GPS toggled off. Here it is 5 hours later and I'm down to 50% left (again with all those radios turned off), and I haven't used the phone all day except about 30 minutes of Slacker listening.
is this typical of what everyone else is seeing?
any chance 2.2 will help?
i mean i know it's not the hugest deal in the world because you can stash chargers everywhere, but i'm sure there will be some situations where it will hurt...] 6/15/2010 1:23:02 PM |

Are you in a poor signal area? Select cell standby to see how long it's been without signal. If the device switches between 3G and 1x a lot, that could have an effect on the battery life. Wifi use and standby generally requires less power than using 3G so if you have access to wifi, you can try using that during the day. 6/15/2010 1:50:57 PM |

^^ turn off all unnecessary syncing as well including stocks and weather. You can also manually push sync instead of letting it automatically sync. Reduce your screen timeout to 30 seconds. I managed to get about 36 hours out of my phone while making a couple of calls, sending about 40-50 texts, checking webpages throughout the day, and syncing gmail when necessary.
^ I found that Wifi actually drains the battery faster than 3g.
My phone has been unplugged for 6h 51m 20s and i have 87% battery left.

yeah, there should be an HTC widget for SenseUI that allows you to turn off your data connection all together. That's what I had to do when I was running the ported Desire rom on my droid in order to make/receive phone calls. You won't be receiving data unless you connect to wifi though. I suppose you could just turn data back on when you needed to use it. Apparently you can go into Settings, System Update, Update PRL to update your roaming list and that could possibly help maintain signal better.
Rumored release date of July 19th on the Droid Xtreme

Usually our breaking news has to do with pictures or videos of new devices and their specs, but today, we’re going straight off of Verizon word. There has been a ton of speculation surrounding the release of the Droid X and Droid 2 by Motorola and we finally have a date for the release of at least one of them from multiple sources. Over the last couple of days, Verizon stores were told to place t-shirt orders (like during the Droid Incredible launch) and prepare for an early opening with full staff on July 19th for the Droid X with new merchandising taking over store windows on the 18th. The official announcement will be made by Verizon next week. (About time right?) Start saving people, you have 34 days to find an extra lump of cash." |

If the size isn't an issue, definitely wait to see what comes out of the announcement next week. The Droid X is said to have an omap clocked to 1Ghz which is faster than a snapdragon at the same speed and the smaller architecture may offer improved battery life. 6/15/2010 7:22:21 PM |

If you have any computer skills at all that's not a big problem as they're not going to block installing them via ADB. I wonder if they blocked all the traditional ways to root like they did on the backflip.

Has anyone calculated what the new Sprint Evo costs over the first year of ownership? $199 up front + plan upgrade to everything data $20/month + $9.99/month surcharge. Something like $560 for the first year, then $360 each year after. I'm going to stay with my older cheaper sprint unlimited data plan and my Touch Pro. 6/16/2010 3:40:54 PM |

If I upgraded it would cost me the $199 up front and $10 increase from my current unlimited plan of $69.99.
So $320 the first year, and then $120 more per year after that for the 4G piece. Not really that big of a deal, at least for me. 6/16/2010 3:54:10 PM |

So, for those of you that own Android devices (Droids in particular), do you ever notice your phone sometimes misreporting that the battery is about to die? This happens to my Droid about once every three weeks or so. Basically you would just chat with eCare and tell them that you heard you're entitled to a discount for being affiliated with NCSU. If you have your unity email still, I would bet once you give them that it wouldn't be hard at all to get the 23% for employees instead. Also USAA member discounts are supposed to be 5% and they usually give you the 23% as well. TWC/Cox enterprises has a fairly open Friends and Family thing where you can get 25%.
