But the point is, these athletes are tied to institutions called Universities. Doesn't NCAA have a rule which requires a minimum graduation rate among scholarship athletes? 4/4/2012 1:24:50 PM |

how so? you already demonstrated that you didn't even understand my point (partly due to my writing skills). my point was not that college athletes should always finish college. although some people seem to think that was my point. if a freshman is lottery pick, of course he should take the millions.4/4/2012 1:40:05 PM |

no. what you said is that athletes should take into account that they might get injured and therefore they should stay in school to get a degree to "fall back on".
this is asinine. if someone gets paid the league minimum in either the nfl or nba for one year, they've already made more than enough money to make up for the lost tuition and room/board.
i guess if your point is that guys who aren't projected to even make a team for one year shouldn't leave early, then that's true, but it's also such a simple concept that bothering to point this out is even dumber.4/5/2012 4:58:32 PM |
Bullet All American 28265 Posts user info edit post |
no, no, no.
somebody compared athletes leaving early to the nba to bill gates dropping out, and i pointed out the difference in the situations. that was my point, that they were different. yes, it was dumb to even address the comparison, i know.
i've stated several times that if a player is going to get paid, and that's what they want, then they should jump to the nba. of course, those that could potentially improve their draft status and get paid twice as much if they stay in college one more year should consider that (while also considering injury).

It wouldn't be as fun if we won the ACC only because they were an NIT team. I'll be happy if all 3 triangle teams are top 15 (just as long as we come out ahead).
UNC still doesn't have a legit center. 4/5/2012 7:53:25 PM |
