I remember NyM talking shit a while back, but Hugo has really returned to form after it dipped post Lukaku knee incident.
He made a couple ridiculous reaction saves yesterday, and that fingertip save on Osman's slicing half volley vs Everton was top drawer.
We're going to need him more than ever coming into this stretch run. 2/13/2014 10:08:23 AM |

It's not talking shit. His form dipped... a lot. And I even hedged by saying he was my choice for best keeper in the league before that.
I've said Ozils form has dipped too. It's not shitting on him it's simply a fact.
Mourinho is a twat. He's a master at getting his dick sucked by the English media though.

Rooney may not be worth 300K a week (just a rumored number) but its better than selling him to Chelsea and vital to United's bid for a top 4 finish next year. 2/16/2014 5:29:15 PM |

RvP is aging, the back four is atrocious and Moyes needed a "win." Rooney absolutely bent them over but Moues/United had no choice. Him leaving just feeds the narrative.
Although with Liverpool and Spurs showing strong United has to win a CL (lol) to be in it next year. Interested to see who they can draw. United is still such a big name it shouldn't be an issue but it'll be interesting.

^^^^ That is such a cop out excuse used by the rival fans its ridiculous. If you are a big club you keep your best players, its as simple as that. Where was Rooney this time last year? Well on his way out because Sir Alex was tired of his antics. More importantly, Rooney' performances had also dropped. Times have changed and United clearly need to hold onto their assets in this situation. Scared of him playing for Chelsea? No. Using him to beat Chelsea. Before he got injured this year he was having a stormer. Rooney was arguably the best player in the premier league until December after Luis Suarez.
If the rumors are to be believed then Rooney was already making 250K a week. 50K more is nothing for a club like Man United. Is he worth it? No. However in an inflated market Rooney has certainly earned it. In the end its better than paying 30 million Plus for someone who may or may not work out.
Ribs I don't expect you to pragmatic obviously, the bias has been quite clear. To say that Rooney held United ransom though is a ludicrous statement because the deal doesn't just benefit Rooney.

No, it's not.
How many times has Rooney asked to leave the club? How many times has he been rewarded for it? There's a point where you can't just give in to a superstar and I personally think 300k a week is that point, but whatever. Obviously that sentiment is not shared by United fans.
There's a truth to United not being in a position to lose assets because it may be tough to bring them in if there's no Champions League and Moyes is still there so I understand keeping what you have.

^ He has asked once. Rooney didn't say anything, at least publically, all of last summer. He could have easily come out and said he wanted to go to Chelsea. I certainly believe there was a rift between Rooney and Sir Alex but I don't necessarily believe Rooney wanted out once Sir Alex retired. Rooney' biggest problem was coming back from pre-season unfit and slow to start. He hit the ground running this year and was extremely fit.
I saw a lot of the Rooney from 3 years ago this year. He has certainly deserved a bigger contract considering it was about to run out next year.
Suarez was a lot more vocal than Rooney has ever been about leaving. Arguably Liverpool wouldn't be where they are right now had Suarez left. The guy has been the center piece for United since Ronaldo left. He has carried that responsibility well. Sir Alex has definitely been one to hold grudges though and bringing RVP in was also a statement to Rooney in many ways. As Kiljadn pointed out though David Moyes needed a win and that explains why Rooney was able to get 300K. However the alternative is what a 10% increase to 250K? So 275K. Great. Rooney got $25K more for being an invaluable asset and a win for the new manager who is under a lot of pressure. 2/17/2014 2:04:06 PM |

rambling rambling rambling. And he's getting way more than just 25k.
Will he be the centerpiece for United at age 33? Is he even worth the 250k he's on now? Is his centerpieceness right now paying off for United? Will these outrageous wages affect United's ability to pay other players higher wages? Will his ridiculous wages change the opinions of anybody else in the dressing room? I mean, stop acting like there's no legitimate argument against giving Wayne Rooney one of the highest contracts in PL history (the highest? not sure)2/17/2014 2:30:32 PM |
wazza31 All American 2433 Posts user info edit post |
^ I am not acting like there isn't a legitimate argument against giving Wayne Rooney that contract. There is but it doesn't extend as far as screwing the club over or holding them ransom. United have a well defined wage structure. Rooney and RVP are the highest paid but no one else comes even close. RVP is looking more and more likely to leave, freeing up space there. Moyes is also set on clearing out some of the players in the squad. Will Rooney be the focal point at 33? Unless he is playing like he is right now I hope not. However at 33 he will be into his last year. Not a big deal to let him run out his contract at that age.
Also who's to say Rooney gets 300K a week straight? The Sun? That contract could include lots of clauses and performance based incentives. Investing 40,000,000 in Rooney is less riskier than investing 40,000,000 on someone who has to adapt to a whole new league and system. 2/17/2014 3:10:52 PM |

The way clubs are throwing around money United could do a lot more if they wanted to waste. Torres is on close to 200K a week. So is Yaya Toure and Eden Hazard. Hell Chelsea threw 50,000,000 on Torres on top of his wages. I am sure Monoco is paying Falcao well and Ibra isn't too far off either. I don't understand the criticism that Rooney on 300K a week is getting. Carlos Tevez was earning 180K a week while golfing in Argentina. United is going to make up more than 50% of his wages on commercial profits generated by Rooney's name alone.
No one can deny Rooney is a top player. So why is it a surprise that Rooney will be making a ridiculous amount of money? Do you think Chelsea would have winced at giving Rooney 300k? Rooney probably would have demanded the same. While the issue with that contract is quiet clear it really isn't surprising at all given what Rooney is already making. 2/17/2014 3:21:42 PM |

Times have changed, but United have adjusted their philosophy to stay in touch with modern trends, and in most cases, created them.
United were the first club to venture into Europe in the 50s when the FA was against us. United were along with West Ham, the proponents of the youth system in the UK. Foundation of the 1966 World Cup anyone? United were one of the first teams to go public, a gutsy move that released funds to buy world class players, and in turn help the PL flourish. United have expanded our youth academies to bring players in from all across the world. Rafael/Fabio/Macheiiiidaaaaaaaa/De Rossi(?). Arsenal develop players, United produce them, as Sir Alex quipped in his autobiography. Big difference between the two.
But one thing never changes. Our leading managers are always Scottish. Moyes will get it done.
