Bttt to note that with a win tonight, Carolina will have 100 points and will have effectively clinched a playoff spot.

Here's to a 6-2 win with a spectacular goal by Ovechkin.

That was possibly the worst game the 'Canes have played since the 9-0 smackdown that the Thrashers laid on them back in October.

Ovechkin, though....

The Capitals get some talent around him, and I'll be waking up in cold sweats every night.

^^^^ The GWG was Staal's fault, so blame it on him.

Babchuk looked GREAT, and Kolzig stole a couple of sure goals.

no im not blaming him, in the NHL, fucking random bounces decide games frequently. this was one of them. we hit post, we had quality chances, it just wasnt there.

A month and a half ago they did.

Now they don't.

They need five points to clinch the SE, but backing into the plxyxffs is a bad idea.

No matter what, I'd prefer it if the star of the team didn't hop off at the end of a shift instead of chasing down a guy on a breakaway.

I'll probably go to the skate tomorrow to see what's said.

itd be nice to see the canes make a good showing in the playoffs, i still just dont see it happening.

It'll be interesting to see if anything sparks when Vasicek comes back next week. I didn't see LaRose out for the warmup today but Joe was out there, and for a while I thought he was gonna play tonight.

The biggest thing I see right now is chemistry issues, which will hopefully be resolved when Wallin and Hedican come back and the lineup can go back to 11-7.

that may be the boost the canes need to at least finish the season with some sort of consistency

aside from the SO loss tonight, my wings look like they are going to bring it home this year

I was thinking after discussing bag skates that Lavi don't roll that way.

For Jack Johnson trackers, Michigan was eliminated by North Dakota in the first round of the NCAA tournament on Friday. So, I guess the time for him to decide what he is going to do is very soon.

Went to my first hockey game in five years and second ever last night and brought along the parents (one was first ever, and one saw the Indianapolis Racers play once when they were in the WHA in the '70s. )

Could someone explain the majority of penalties? I know some of them. but on some I was clueless. What is the penalty where the ref crosses his arms? And was the second Canes' goal disallowed cause a Canes player pushed the goalie out of the way?

And after going to lots of college games, does the constant playing of music on dead puck situations annoy anyone else?

doesnt have to be a push, its sort of a nebulous idea of interference. the goally can be visually screened, but not physically stopped from making attempts to stop a puck.

Crossing arms is interference. It consists of using the body to impede the progress of the puck carrier, or to impede the progress of a player without the puck from getting to it. It's NOT interference if the defender establishes defensive position first, which in hockey basically consists of getting even with the puck carrier (which is why shoulder-checking from the side is legal).

As Joshnumbers said, goaltender interference is very subjective. I've seen a goalie get sat on by a forward who was slightly bumped by a defenseman and not have it called, and I've seen it called when an errant stick slightly pulled a goaltender off a post during a deep cycle. The spirit of the rule is that anything that denys the goaltender the physical presence/movement needed to make the save is illegal.

The entire rulebook is here, plus a video excerpt from the DVD sent to teams about the new interference standard for this season:

http://www.nhl.com/rules/index.html

I'd be glad to explain anything specifically you need to know about, but seeing as there are dozens of penalties and many have discretionary severity, I'd rather not do all of them.

He has the flu. Notice he played few ES shifts but always on the PP.

Staal should've been benched after that goal, though.

John and Tripp said during the last broadcast that it was a slight groin injury. Don't know if that was right, though.

I've been holding off on getting a Canes jersey so I can get Jack Johnson's name and number stitched on the sucker. He needs to hurry up and join before I spend the money on something else...like my girlfriend or something.

I know I am biased but Babchuk has been one of our best defenders since the Olympic Break and should have a spot even when everyone is healthy, he seemed to work well with Leng Slewey last night. On a side note, the hockey "insider" Eklund has heard from his "inside" sources here in Carolina that Lavi might be a front runner for the GM job in Boston, why he would quit coaching for a GM position job is what makes this only dumb enough for Eklund to dream up

I'm pretty sure Eklund has never gotten anything right about anything ever.
