I'm confused...everything I'm seeing on various blogs is that in-game XMB is in 2.0...where are you seeing that it isn't? 11/7/2007 3:54:15 PM |
Shrike All American 9594 Posts user info edit post |
Nah, people assumed 2.0 would be brining long awaited features like In-game XMB, custom sountracks, and BD Profile 1.1 support. There was no real concrete information on this, just the assumption that 2.0 = big update. 11/7/2007 4:08:50 PM |

^^ I agree. I really don't understand how they could have not done this. They knew it was exactly what we all wanted, and they have been reportedly working on it for a while. Devs have said its been in the works for us but we have seen nothing. I'm glad they are getting blasted in the forums. 11/7/2007 4:10:35 PM |

The fact that they have yet to fix that is totally podunk. That's only the foundation but a HUGE foundation in having any type of console this generation as a bonified online enabled one. PSN is pathetic in this area. I know it's free, but honestly, i think PS users would rather pay and have a decent service. I know the 4 dollars and 25 cents I spend a month on the 360 subscription is worth every freaking penny.11/7/2007 4:31:28 PM |

at least I can sort my games / movies / music now, so I guess that's one desired feature down (only about 50 to go).
The custom themes are a little cooler than I thought they would be, particularly because you can customize those pop-ups when someone signs in / download finishes / media server connects/disconnects so hopefully someone will make some that are TRANSPARENT. Those ugly gray boxes have to go.
All in all, it's not as bad as it seemed. And I'm glad you can wake-on-LAN via PSP. If you have that option enabled, the PS3 now remains on when in standby (sorta like WiiConnect). This will make auto-off after downloads are completed a possibility (another feature I'd like to see). 11/8/2007 10:45:28 AM |

Looks like the demo is out now. Better get to it you people that are home.

my friend at gamespot just said a couple hours ago that the guy there that's reviewing it is totally blown away by it. Granted he's playing the 360 version but i figured since you guys were bringing up the title it was appropriate to mention. doubt there's really any difference between the two minus small graphical items and achievements I think.
great news, sigh.

Is there a racing wheel out or in the works for the PS3? If I ever get a PS3 it will be mainly for GT5 when it comes out and i've been spoiled rotten with my Xbox wheel...would hate to have to go back to using a controller for racing games. Or will the PC wheels work with USB? 11/8/2007 5:10:47 PM |
Kainen All American 3507 Posts user info edit post |
^^ from what I understand:
The 360 version obviously has the achievements, but whats a lesser known trait, that was spoken of early on, and still, is that the 360 version has slightly better AI and more NPCs on screen at a time, due to the extra RAM in the 360 compared to the PS3. PS3 version will have a very slight smoother look to it in motion however. Also, the 360s controller rumbles when you begin to loose your footing or grip while climbing, the ps3 has no indication of loosing the grip. Other then that, the gameplay is the same. 11/8/2007 5:16:17 PM |

meh, the cover system is pretty hit and miss
plus shooting people in their goddamn heads and it just whizzing though with no effect

The cover system isn't as complete as Gears, in that you can't quickly jump from cover to cover or run while crouched, but it works fine within the context of this game. I had no problem killing bad guys once I realized I was a little pansy and died quickly if I didn't use cover. This is not an easy game, and I could see the combat getting especially brutal later on. The graphics are amazing, especially the lighting and animation. I hope the platforming bits get a little more complex in the full game. It was longer than the Heavenly Sword demo, but not a full level like Ratchet and Clank.
^I didn't have any problem with hit detection. In fact, when I did barely miss, it was pretty cool to see the bad guys turn their head at the bullet as it went by. 11/8/2007 9:31:23 PM |

damn you guys aren't OMG'ing that demo and that has me worried. 11/8/2007 9:53:05 PM |
needlesmcgir All American 2427 Posts user info edit post |
^'ll take care of that for you. I played the demo for about 10 minutes and I think its absolutely amazing. There is so much in this game that has never been done before and is what next gen is all about. Not just talking about how great the graphics are (and they are great) but what's behind that.
The animation system is just fantastic. Drake reacts to everything in the environment. If there is a dead guy on the ground he automatically walks around it puts 1 foot on him. When you step on higher level ground he actually steps up and reacts to the change in terrain. Climbing up things and jumping just looks fantastic in this regard too. Its so awesome that he's not a super hero able to do anything, he barely makes jumps and falls around and its just great.
I think the cover system is pretty realistic, and when you shoot someone they react to every single bullet, even if it does'y hit them. Headshots for the most part kill a guy in one shot as well. I'm not so sure about the grenades and the sixaxis control as I haven't been able to get used to it (only played about 10 minutes).
I will definitely be getting this game, haven't been so sure about a game for PS3 since Motorstorm. Totally pumped. 11/9/2007 9:48:21 AM |

Shrike: you can jump from cover to cover, by using the circle button. It even works with objects that are different heights. for example, you can jump from behind a pillar to a low wall, and he will dive-roll behind the wall and crouch. Works pretty well, actually.
I think the game is super promising. I wasn't sure about it, but I'll definitely be picking it up. Granted, I haven't played Gears of War, but everything about this game feels fresh to me. As mentioned, headshots are hard to get but that makes them all the more rewarding, IMO.
The animation, graphics, and AI are pretty awesome. I played through a couple different times, and some of the battles ended up going very differently the second time around. The enemies seem to react different ways based on where you decide to make your stand. No single aspect of the game will completely blow your mind, but this game is definitely greater than the sum of its parts. I'm psyched for it after playing the demo. 11/9/2007 11:22:03 AM |
Shrike All American 9594 Posts user info edit post |
^Yeah, I actually figured that out when I played through it again this morning. I guess I just never thought to try using the roll button while behind cover. It did work well.
My only real reservations about this game was how repetitive would the gunplay get. Obviously, you can't get that from a 20 minute demo, but the quality of the AI and environment interaction tells me that they should be able to keep things fresh. Plus we already know there is going to some vehicle segments and the platforming should help keep the pacing between shoot outs.
Like FanatiK said, you're not going to be blown away by any single aspect of this game (other than the graphics), but no other game brings it all together like this. There really isn't another game this gen you can compare it to, and even the Tomb Raider comparison falls flat when you compare the combat mechanics. It's basically an "Indiana Jones movie" simulator, which is fucking awesome. If the story and pacing pan out, this is a definite day one purchase and one of the best games of the year (which is saying a lot considering the year).

Ratchet and Clank if you like platformers, although it is a very combat heavy platformer. You'll spend most of your time blowing shit up. If you want to get into some online firefights, get Warhawk. Definitely download Everday Shooter and/or Super Stardust HD, they are only $10 each. Heavenly Sword is short, but by all accounts a very good game for as long as it lasts. Besides that there are plenty of sports and racing games. There is a demo of just about everything, so get on the PSN and start downloading. 11/11/2007 10:37:23 AM |

I've never done it , but its supposedly extremely straight forward. Is the PS3 brand new? I wouldn't go assuming it's the hard drive and try to replace it yourself to fix the problem. no problems with mine. I think my PS3 freezes up maybe once a month. It did happen once during the uncharted demo, so that was since 2.0, but no other problems. I'm not too worried about it.
^^ I'm not sure why you are having issues when you start a downloaded game. I would suggest that you call up Sony, they may hook you up.
