Box Elders were awesome.

I was really just watching their spastic, standing drummer.

Yeah, he was fucking awesome. He was playing the keys, too, while drumming. And I loved the weird motions he made between songs. Very cool. I loved them. Black Lips were fun too, as usual.

My one complaint (and it's petty) was that they played "Katrina" so early in their set (I think it was their third song). That's their best song, I feel, and the one the crowd always gets the most into. I feel like it makes more sense to save it for last or for the encore. I was doing the crazy fingers with everyone when they had that psychedelic shit going on behind them.

I was at the front and couldn't hear the vocals for shit.

Pretty much all I could hear was Ian's guitar.

They played O Katrina! pretty early last time I saw them as well.

Hippie, Hippie, Hoorah was fun, although this version seemed short? Maybe not.

Haha, same here. That redheaded kid kept shoving me. Black Lips might be one of the only shows all year at Cat's Cradle to feature a mosh pit. Not that that's a good or bad thing.

aha, when the guy that got onstage threw the drum stick to the crowd, the drummer said "No no NO! Man, I needed that."

^ He was really funny...and a nice guy after the show.

BTW, Joanna was amazing. The band was very tight, the blend and stage mix were right on, and she was honestly the most adorable person I've ever seen on stage, including Jenny Lewis and Zooey Deschanel.

Yeah, that seems to be the consensus. The girl just stood there very still holding her beer with both hands and sung. It was pretty bizarre. Then, occasionally, the dude would scurry over to the guitar and play it for about 30 seconds. All while there was a crazy, weird video playing behind them with all sorts of random things--soccer players, African children, and the like.

I realize I might've actually just made it sound kinda cool, but trust me, it wasn't.

I don't think The Rosebuds should be a headliner. Give me Megafaun over the Rosebuds any day of the week. Other than that, sounds awesome.

Thought for sure they'd be able to get Bon Iver or some semblance of Gayngs.

Hopscotch ticket levels aren't that confusing, but the wording is a little verbose.

$30 - each night at City plaza costs 30, $60 total to see both nights
$45 - ALL Club access (which is the majority of the Festival)
$85 - ALL Everything access (City Plaza + Clubs)
$120- VIP (All Access, skip-the-lines and VIP party)

You'll also be able to buy entry to individual shows at the doors of the clubs, but that will be the least thrifty option...like $20/show maybe.

i wonder if my bss curse will continue

i've had the opportunity (and tickets twice) to see them, and every time some unavoidable situation has come up (sibling wedding, illness, etc).

they're up there on my "active bands i've never seen" wish list, probably at #2 behind bjork.

there were no more than 35 people at the sharon van etten/megafaun show last night in philly.

most seemed there for SVE, and all but about 15 left before megafaun finished.

granted there was a balcony i didnt see, but i think there couldnt have been more than a dozen up there

i was kinda surprised

^That's upsetting. Did they play a relatively straight-up set, or was it a more experimental, droney one?

^^ it was pretty straight up, but really mellow

only like, two or three droney points (im totally into that though, and it could have been much more)

although this weirdo in a Matthew Lesko lookin suit jacket was straight up freakin' out during them, and it made me uncomfortable enough to move from where i was standing

I thought Midlake absolutely killed tonight. They did a great job re-arranging a lot of the new material for a live performance and the Van Occupanther tracks were solid as usual.

Great show, imho.

^ when they played at the cradle, she seemed like she was scared shitless for at least half the show. in an empty room or the first show or two i'd understand, but it was practically sold out and they were in the middle of a tour.
