So Saint Mary's can probably kiss the tourney goodbye after tonight. Quite a small bubble at this point. 3/14/2009 8:28:28 PM |

What are the numbers for Maryland getting in over Mississippi State? Obviously if MS State wins tomorrow they are in, but if they lose that is going to be an interesting decision for the committee to make. 3/14/2009 8:47:28 PM |

Mississippi State? They aren't even considered a bubble team. The SEC is getting LSU and whoever wins tomorrow. Maryland has some really big wins.
I can't believe Lunardi has San Diego State still in at this point. Creighton should be sweating as well. And eight teams from the Big 10 was a joke. They should get six max...Penn State, Wisconsin, and Ohio State haven't done jack outside of that conference. I'd put in Saint Mary's over any of those teams. 3/14/2009 9:09:00 PM |

But St. Mary's isn't from one of the Big 6, so unforunately I doubt the committee will look at them.
As for Maryland, didn't they go 7-9 in the ACC? Total 20 wins? But you're right they have some big wins against top-seeded schools because they get to play in the ACC.
And I don't see how the Big 10 gets 8 schools. I agree. 3/14/2009 9:13:32 PM |

St. Mary's will get looked at, but they won't get in, imho. They had a good year, but a 25 point loss to Gonzaga in the conference tourney did nothing to help.
No way the Big 10 gets 8 bids. 3/14/2009 9:16:34 PM |

Granted it's not on the caliber of one of the five major college basketball conferences, but this SEC game is pretty good... Venardo is too good to be playing in a mid-major conference.

Good game between Kentucky and Creighton going on right now. Creighton could never get UK to come to the Qwest Center in the regular season, but that's what I like about the NIT. It sometimes forces the big boys to go to the smaller guys' arenas. Now obviously the Qwest Center (cap. 17,560) isn't small, but Creighton is a small, private university that mainly fills the arena b/c of them being the main basketball attraction in Omaha. 3/23/2009 8:55:55 PM |

UConn recruiting violations, I wonder what kind of penalties will be enforced because of this. Sucks to get in trouble for a kid that you don't even have on the team anymore.

I don't know, let me check. Is the team NCSU? If no, just let it ride. Eventually the issue will fade from everyone's conscious. If yes, then destroy the program with impudence.

This is about Women's Basketball...
Okay, we can all bitch about how bad the Men's Tournament Committee is, but good lord, the Women's Committee has to be filled with a bunch of dykes that have never watched basketball. You win the ACC and get a number 1 Seed, and your reward... you get sent to Michigan State in a pod where Michigan State is a 9 seed... thus your reward for being a number 1 seed is playing at a number 9 seed in the second round. It also happened to Auburn, a number 2 seed... they got sent to Rutgers where Rutgers was a 7 seed.
Guess what happens... the home teams win and a 9 beats a 1 and a 7 beats a 2
Now I am all for upsets, but lets please make sure that the teams are rewarded not penalized for having a good regular season. 3/25/2009 11:01:11 AM |

Great article and interview with David Thompson. I didn't realize he was the one that started the whole cradling/cupping the ball when going up for a dunk, which he said was out of necessity since he didn't have long enough fingers to palm the ball.
