Whoa, wait a minute. We're not talking about killing Jacob here. We're just talking about killing smoke monsters. We have no evidence that Jacob was a smoke monster. And we know that if the smoke monster speaks to you first you can't kill him (like Sayid tried to kill Fake Locke). If the mom was not a smoke monster, how did she kill all of those mean and fill in the wells?

I'm assuming was the whole point of associating the light with the em field down in the well. That was the first time that they showed the direct connection between the wheel and the magnetism.

ben's mom appeared as well, and there's no evidence to support that it was MiB because ben saw her from within the dharma compound, and as far as we know there's no reason to think that he had been scanned like richard was. if you accept that as fact then that's kind of lame.

i see what you mean in terms of ben being pushed to the back burner, but really look at it objectively, and consider what i said about alex. ben was always a sinister, power hungry asshole who constantly lied and manipulated those around him to further his own agenda. what i loved about him is that he seemed like such an unlikely villain given his appearance and demeanor, yet in seasons 3 and 4 he is really a pretty scary character.

but everything he did was to protect the island and obey a man he had never met. it was entirely based on faith, and his efforts went completely unrewarded just like locke. you're right. they absolutely destroyed ben's character. he doesn't matter. he never did matter. although i haven't really figured out the meaning behind miles telling ben about what jacob said after he died. but ben's character wasn't destroyed from careless storytelling and lazy writing. the way they handled ben from season 2 up through season 6 is one of the most compelling aspects of this show.

Using the special knife (why is it special?), sneak up on smokey and strike a killing blow before smokey can speak to you. However, if its been a little while since smokey spoke to you, you're ok.

you guys are giving this knife, which seemed like an ordinary knife that was obtained in an ordinary manner (afaik), a lot of credit. At least more credit than I am.


Dogan gave Sayid the knife and told him not to let Smokey/Locke/MiB talk to him before killing him. I'm pretty sure Dogan also acknowledged that he sent Sayid out there to get killed. - so why is anyone assuming that any of that bullshit about the knife and not speaking to him beforehand is true?

MiB did give the same knife to Richard to try to kill Jacob. But it's not the knife that he gave Ben to kill Jacob with, right? - Because Dogan had it wrapped up and hidden in a plant.


There could be a few reasons to not let them talk.

A) Both MiB and Jacob are manipulative cunts. They have a shit ton of experience interacting with and reading people, telling them what they want/need to hear. you let those assholes speak to you, especially if you don't have a lot of experience with them, there's a good chance they're going to talk you into or out of something.

B) MiB has been trying to figure out how to kill Jacob for a hella-long time. Maybe he's tried a few times and it hasn't worked. So he's just trying to recreate the situation he had with his mother (who said Jacob is like her after she gave him the wine and said the shit). So if Jacob's like her, maybe he can be killed the same way. MiB remembers he did not speak to her beforehand and used that particular knife. Maybe some bullshit belief spread that way, just like it does in real life.

Of course, MiB didn't need that bullshit knife to kill have Ben kill Jacob.

So after trying to be optimistic all season long that last episode pissed me off so much. I decided to look for some spoilers just to see if there was anything that hinted there were good things to come.

I ended up reading a full synopsis of the next episode, and I'm disappointed I did. It seems like its actually an episode that accomplishes things and sets up the finale. I'm definitely looking forward to next weeks and the finale now.

Jack becomes the protector of the island, and Claire becomes the new smokey? I think it would be pretty lame for them to just start the cycle all over again but that seems to be where they are heading. Claire seems to be one of the ones who wants to get off the island the most, I think she would fit perfect in the crazy ass smokey role.

Well after listening to an interview with Carlton yesterday I'm doubting that will happen, but all Carlton says is that it ends without any cliffhangers or anything that would be a lead in to another season. Big difference in that and leaving it with no continuation possible. He compared it to Terminator - ending with them destroying everything but they still found a way to make a sequel.

And I totally want to buy the Dharma beer from the auction.

^If you ever plan on watching the entire series, do yourself a favor and DON'T watch the finale. This show is all about mysteries and if you watch the final episode before the rest of it, you will seriously ruin for yourself one of the best TV shows ever made.

This is of course assuming that you understand a thing that's going on. Every now and then one of my roommates watches the show with me (neither of my roomies follow the show) and doesn't understand a single thing that his happening.

^^ Haha I think you could probably just watch the most recent episode before tonight's. Basically everything before then was pretty much a red herring. There's a light on the island that needs to protected, and one of the characters has to be the one to do it. That is why they're stuck on the island and why they keep coming back. The man who used to protect it was killed by Ben Linus at the end of last season.
