Well the DT's playing are vets, and they look a hell of a lot better than the rookies we've been playing most of the season.

secret to Cam's record-breaking season?
http://msn.foxsports.com/nfl/story/carolina-panthers-cam-newton-gets-call-advice-from-michael-vick-090711

funny reading pg 1 now that we pretty much know what we have going into next year.
Quote :
"Best-case scenario: The Buccaneers implode, the Falcons collapse under injuries, and the Panthers narrowly beat the Saints in New Orleans in Week 17 to claim a shocking NFC South title. This makes some people's happiness +3342.

Worst-case scenario: Carolina suffers another string of injuries, and the combination of Newton and Clausen struggles so much that the team finally turns to its third-string quarterback … Derek Anderson. Can we get our money back on that division title bet?""

I'd say we outperformed expectations, but Atl and NO don't seem to be getting any worse. Can we step our game up to their level(s) next year?

ATL does seem to be getting worse IMO.

I don't really think Ryan lived up to expectation coming into the season, and they just blew a ton of picks on Julio.

ATL will feel the repercussions of giving up all those top picks over the next 3 years

meanwhile, the Panthers will shine

Blame Hurney for that one.

We had a perfectly good kicker under contract.

could have figured this out anyway, but CLT Observer laid it out nicely

Opponents nearly set for next season, only one up in the air is the NFC West opponent

Home games: Atlanta, New Orleans, Tampa Bay, Dallas, New York Giants, Arizona/Seattle winner, San Diego, Oakland.

Away games: Atlanta, New Orleans, Tampa Bay, Philadelphia, Washington, Chicago, Kansas City, Denver.

Another relatively difficult schedule. I think we're two years away from being a playoff team.

Defense is too bad. But if cam improves and the defense returns to average then we will most likely make it next season

face, stick to enlightening us all about rebounding.

Judging future nfl schedules is ridiculous, considering that so much changes even in one offseason.

aside from drawing Philly away instead of NJNFC, that's not too bad. 3-1 against the AFC, then split the rest and that's 9-7 and a shot at the wild card. if the defense improves, it's within the realm of possibility

What's up with that hat? Is it a trend or something? Nostalgia perhaps?

I would think that people not built/revered like Cam would be liable for some ridicule wearing Hornets gear to a Bobcats game.

everybody in Charlotte loves the old school Hornets stuff, at least I would think they would

they are basically a different franchise now, I've no problem with it...better than wearing like a Hawks hat or something since he grew up in ATL

The Hornets hat was cool, minus the tag. Anyone who thinks otherwise was the cold hearted bastard who wore the Orlando Magic starter jacket to school. Stylistically, I don't like the Mars Blackmon flip, but then I thought about it for a minute. If he wears the caps pulled down low, it looks like he's trying to avoid the spotlight and doesn't appear as friendly to fans. Cam's an outgoing person, a bit of a goofball, and this way he could still flash his smile and talk to people throughout the game.

What I had a bigger issue with was his pants, particularly the way he wore them. UnderArmour pays him money to wear their shit, so no beef with that. But its December, and the rolled up pant legs didn't sit well with me. I won't go so far as to call it disrespectful, but from someone of his magnitude, I found a faux pas like that a bit strange. Then again, he hasn't been seen out and about too much yet in the city, so we can't yet determine if this is an aberration or a trend. Only time will tell.

apparently they modified their system

Home games: Atlanta, New Orleans, Tampa Bay, Dallas, New York Giants, Arizona/Seattle loser, San Diego, Kansas City.

Away games: Atlanta, New Orleans, Tampa Bay, Philadelphia, Washington, Chicago, Oakland, Denver.

(The NFL modified its formula for West Coast travel, beginning with the 2010 season, so teams wouldn't have to make two trips to the West Coast. The league paired Oakland with Denver, and San Diego with Kansas City, for teams facing the AFC West. The Panthers' AFC West destinations for next season were based on this year's schedule for NFC North teams, which played the AFC West.)

Quote :
"We asked one starting player from 30 teams (we didn’t pursue a vote from Carolina or Denver for obvious reasons) this question: Who will finish with more NFL victories in his career, Newton or Tebow?

RESULTS
Newton: 25 votes
Tebow: 5 votes

(All responses were anonymous)

SPORTS ILLUSTRATED: Biggest NFL stories of 2011

PRO-NEWTON
“There is no way Cam Newton wins less games than Tim Tebow. Tebow won’t be in the league as long. I mean, a win is a win, and we have won a lot of games in our history with bad quarterbacks. But Cam is just so much more talented than Tim. And he’s going to be expected to win more by everybody.” — NFC defensive player

“Newton. He’s a way better player. Much, much better. Cam’s like 10 times better. Cam’s only going to get better. He’s scary as it is right now.” — NFC offensive player

“Cam Newton—he’s better. So his chance is better. I think as the years go on, his team will get better, too. I think Carolina traditionally is going to be all right. And what I really think is Tim can’t be a starting quarterback in this league. That’s what a lot of people really think.” — NFC defensive player

“Newton. I think that the kid has the ability to spread the wealth. And when I say that, he has the ability to give his best skill players the opportunity to shine. And that, in return, is going to help him win more games. Because guys are going to be more willing to play for him than a guy that gets all the praise when it’s not only him winning the game.” — NFC offensive player

“I’m not a quarterback, but I watch them pretty closely, and there are certain guys you can look at and just tell they can play. Anybody can see that with Aaron Rodgers. I haven’t watched Newton a lot, but he seems to have a lot of the right ingredients. With Tebow, I agree with the football people who question whether he will be able to sustain what he has done for a short period of time. I think the league will catch up to him, the way it did with Wildcat quarterbacks.” — AFC offensive player

“Newton is a more versatile quarterback. He can be a pocket passer and a dual threat as a runner as well. He’s a big body, better athlete. Those are all things I see early in a young player. But I definitely think Cam Newton has the tool set to be a better, more successful quarterback.” — AFC offensive player

“Cam Newton, because eventually defensive coordinators are going to figure out how to stop Tebow if he doesn’t learn to throw.” — AFC defensive player

“That’s a tough one ... Cam’s got so much talent that it’s inevitable he’s going to start winning, but Tebow is divine intervention. I’m going to say Cam. You surround him with talent, he’s got no chance but to win.” — NFC offensive player

PRO-TEBOW

“I pick Tebow. I believe in the guy. I think he’s a winner. He’s gonna do everything it takes, no matter what it is, whether it’s running it, throwing it—he’s going to do everything it takes to win that ballgame. I’m a believer. I’m sold. (But) I do like Cam. Cam has all the tools and everything like that, but there’s just something about Tebow.’’ — NFC offensive player

“Tebow. It just seems that’s the way his life trend is going, man.” — NFC defensive player

“He just keeps finding ways to win games. It’s not always pretty, but he gets it done.” — AFC defensive player"

Kion Wilson had 4 guns stolen

Quote :
"Panthers linebacker Kion Wilson has played in four games this year. He claims that, on Monday, the same number of guns were stolen from his truck.

According to Steve Reed of the Associated Press, police are investigating a contention by Wilson that thieves broke into his F250 truck and stole an FN 57 handgun, a Mossberg 12-gauge shotgun, a Glock 23, and a Smith and Wesson Body Guard 380.

Panthers G.M. Marty Hurney told Reed that the team confirmed the guns were registered to Wilson to travel purposes. Hurney said Wilson, who wasn’t made available to the media on Wednesday, was driving to a shooting range, but that he stopped at a local Best Buy on the way."
