Surely you'll concede that one's "coaching career" isn't limited to the years that one is a head coach.
Also I don't care enough to look, but I can only guess that you're a Herb-Lover and still hold a grudge about his firing, and that's why you're posting your garbage in this thread.]12/10/2013 12:53:24 AM |

Right, but this conversation was spawned by my assertion that "playing for Gottfried is a death sentence..."
A player doesn't go to a certain school to "play" for an assistant coach. Ed O'Bannon didn't go to UCLA to play for Gott, nor would he claim Gott if you asked him who his college coach was.
Hell, if we're including all players a coach coached while a coach and as an assistant coach, Herb gets to claim he was the coach of future draft picks Billy Donovan, Jamal Mashburn, Rodney Dent, and Tony Delk
Also, Levi Watkins gets to claim he put Lorenzo Brown into the NBA

Considering the fact that assistant coaches do a lot of the recruiting legwork, it is not a longshot to assume that kids would want to play for/be coached by assistant coaches and hence choose their school based on that

Is there any reason to be optimistic we'll have a legit shot at Maker? He is a 5* and already is being targeted this early by a lot of major programs(Duke, Kentucky, Kansas, etc). Didn't know if there were any reports of him liking State or we were just hoping that the early offer would get us an early advantage with him? 1/2/2014 8:32:02 AM |

I can't see us getting him unless we get some advantage like signing his best friend or getting his baby mama to attend State. He sounds like a Duke kid (awesome bball player who's parents are pushing academics). 1/2/2014 9:28:59 AM |

Guys like the Martin twins and Lacey will help a lot in terms of adding more shooters to the team (which we desperately need), but Abu is the one I'm most excited about. Looks like a Howell type player with the athleticism of Leslie. 1/15/2014 5:55:12 PM |

Abu is a post player that can create his own offense. That is one thing that we are sorely missing in the post this year. Anya, Washington, Freeman and Vandy are not those kind of players...atleast at this point in their career for the first three. 1/15/2014 6:38:15 PM |

I'm not saying that he will transfer. It just seems like he isn't real happy and with Cat, Dez, and Trevor in the mix next year, it will be tough for him to get playing time. I like the kid so of course, I want him to stay but I just don't think he will.

Thats my one worry about this year into next is that somebody is gonna get the dumb idea that they need to transfer. We're finally developing a really good base layer of players again and we need to keep everybody so we can start building a more healthy roster structure that doesn't end up being completely upper or lower classmen. 1/24/2014 1:56:38 PM |
